  1. I throw my underspins on a med heavy cranking rod . I noticed when I was using a m/h I would rip it away from them. I have not had a problem since. My magdrafts I throw on my m/h flipping rod
  2. Med heavy mod fast rod with braid or heavier mono will even work. The only time I will go up to a med heavy fast is if I'm fishing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in super heavy cover. Too stiff of a rod spells trouble for buzzbaits.
  3. If you guys are not wanting to order from TW at order from fisherman's central in Ohio. Top notch guys and most of the time it's same day shipping
  4. This may turn into a tackle purge. We are going to fish all of our usual stuff then have to try all the other stuff we never use. Going to end up a little lighter in the boat by the end of summer
  5. Best info you will receive. Even though my boat only runs in the low to mid 20s I try to make it a habit of wearing my off with Killswitch attatched anytime I'm running more than idle speed
  6. The Palomar knot Is one of the simplest and strongest knots you can tie for a fishing application. I learned how to tie it when I was around 8 years old. The only thing I will go to sometimes is a fisherman's knot on ultra thin lines, I'm talking 4 pound and lighter. Be sure to wet the knot with spit as your tightening it down and it will not burn your flouro or mono lines and it helps it cinch down tighter on braid. On braid I will often tie a double palomar just for a little added security
  7. In a tournament you still have to handle the fish and it takes me no time to grab the float on a cull tag. If I never fished tourneys that phone stuff would be fine
  8. If your in a tournament where every second counts then that is wayy more work than what it would be worth. A culling beam is way quicker than weighing fish opening your phone app inputting numbers and then waiting on the phone to process/calculate. Something that should take seconds will now take one minute plus. Depending on the technique your fishing that could add up to alot of casts by the end of the day
  9. If it is coming undone then you did not tie it correctly. 7 wraps up 7 wraps down make sure the line goes back through the loop the same way it came through. Wet the knot with saliva while your tightening the knot down and it will not fail
  10. Bad guide on rod or the line guide on the reel has a seriously bad spot
  11. That is my low carb diet. Don't eat much when your jacking the biggins! That is my low carb diet. Don't eat much when your jacking the biggins! That pic isn't our best 5. After I caught the 6 we decided we should keep a few for a pic and that's what we put together. Those other 4 were average size fish all day
  12. Fished Erie on Saturday. Amazing day for size. We caught 5 20# limits and our best 5 went just shy of 27# anchored by my big bass of the day at 6lb 2 oz just an unreal day. All fish were caught on moving baits too. Non of that finesse crap!
  13. If you are going to fish a buzzbait on that rod I highly suggest a leader for a shock absorber and or keep your drag loose. Im a buzzbait freak I tried fishing them on straight braid with a med heavy fast rod and I lost a couple giants by fishing straight braid. Never again
  14. The above info is true. Although the numbers seem high it has like a 97%survival rate, higher than that of the flu.
  15. That fish is in the 5 pound range. An 18 inch largemouth is usually in the 3 1/2 +pound range a 20 incher is typically right around 5 pounds around here I would say the one in your pic is between 5 and 6 pounds comfortably
  16. If your only 19 I'll explain exactly what it is. Your probably just recently on your own or have been for a year or so. They're trying to spend every minute they can with you before your out in the world doing your own thing. Spend what ever time you can with them. My dad is my main fishing partner but these last few years and especially now with all this corona crap we have not been able to get out together very much. Put a crankbait or a spinnerbait on for them and let them cast. They will catch fish And I never said anything about your parents being abusive I was talking about your buddy that stepped on your rod and broke it. Me and all my friends fish high end stuff and the unwritten rule is "you break it you buy it" if that fails to happen then someone is going to get thumped
  17. Hmmmm. I'm not sure what a Gucci is but it sounds expensive but Try to enjoy the time with your folks. Try to teach them. I know it may sound disrespectful when your talking to them but slow down and talk kind of like you are talking to a 5 year old. Literally explain EVERYTHING even stuff you don't think you need to explain. I now do this Everytime I am trying to teach anyone anything and it seems to work very well. You didn't mention how old you are And you and your buddy should have been at the store or online replacing that rod that day or it would have got delt with behind the wood shed
  18. Palomar knot for everything it has never failed me. Alberto knot for connecting leader to main line. Those two knots tied correctly will not fail
  19. Skip the curado save a little extra money and get a chronarch if staying with Shimano. My curado k gets "Geary" sometimes if that makes sense. I use it for my punching reel so not a huge deal. I use a Lew's tournament pro for my deep cranking reel and that thing is smooth as silk even pulling giant crankbaits
  20. I can tell you now that we fished Erie yesterday on the PA side and flat out killed them and that was with temps dropping 30 degrees. All fish were caught on moving baits with a 6.2 smallie being my biggest of the day get around them fish and they will bite . May just have to slow down a bit
  21. Sounds like they are sunning themselves. When this happens go back in a day or two and catch them. They are d**n near impossible to catch when they are sunning themselves
  22. Thanks guys. I'm buddies with a local builder but everyone's cranks run just a touch different which is why I'm looking for additional options. I will start looking into all the baits listed here
  23. That bait was only thrown over a weed flat maybe half a dozen times . Any bait out there should not chip like that without some serious abuse
  24. They said it was because of how busy they were coming off the week of the classic.i am not sure exactly how I feel about that, and yes I am not thrilled it took a month to hear from them, but in the end they did make it right. Now this doesn't mean I'm saying they have got the best CS out there but the fact that the owner gave me a call really does speak volumes to me. Also I've got no time for holding a grudge we all make mistakes now and then
