Speed in my opinion is the most dangerous. It doesn't matter if the speed is yours or the other guys. Very few fatalities occur at no wake and idle speeds. For some reason people always think the other guy should slow down or yeild. That maybe true, but that's assuming he's an experienced boat. I'll come off plane and/or turn away in a heartbeat .

I'm not familiar with the Carhartt rain suit. Here in Georgia I wear Frabill F-1 when it's warm and a BPS 100 mph suit for winter rains. My patner really likes his Academy H2O rainsuit and it can be had at a fair price.

I've been losing fights with the Bait Monkey for years. I always carry a good bit of gear when I hit the water. My fishing partner likes to joke about the size & weight of my bags. I've warned him that when he needs one of my lures while we're on the water that he can purchase it at 300% or rent it. The rental fee is lower until you add in the cleaning/drying and hook sharpening fee. ?

Don't overlook a Whopper Plopper for fall fishing. Yes I'm excited for the feasting to begin. I'll primarily be throwing big swimbaits until 47 degrees then I go vertical .

My first baitcaster was a Abu and I stuck with them for a long time. I now own and fish Abu's, Lew's, and Shimano. I've been satisfied with all 3 brands but the Shimano's just do everything better except pull fish out of thick grass(less drag than Abu).

Last year I got in a hurry and learned my that my boat will float my trailer if I don't unbuckle the transom straps. It floated it over in the other ramp. I had to fire the boat engine up just to get it aligned to pull it out. It was a five minute fiasco that I could've avoided by slowing down.

Conditions definitely play a role in the live vs artificial decision. I only fish artificial at this point. I caught 62 bass in one hour from the bank in 43 degee water on a tiny trout colored Rapala. I've never witnessed the equivalent with live bait.

I drive my 2005 Mercury 25 hp 2 stroke tiller like I stole it. Bought it new and completed the break in on it. It gets a service annually and I'll even wipe it down at that time. It has no hour meter but with conservative figures it's likely around 2,500 hours and runs great considering most of those hours were at WOT. Just purchased a NIB 9.9 Mercury 4 stroke short shaft for my new 1436 and figure it'll last my lifetime no matter the hours.

20.3 mile drive for me. It's a bit tricky to figure out. But once you do it's a good lake to fish. Finesse presentations such as Ned rig,dropshot,Wacky rig, and Shakey head works well on the LM & Spots. The hybrid and striper schools are an additional benefit. If you go back I suggest you start fishing fast and let the fish tell you what mood they're in. I don't want to sound like a know it all about the lake because at times it kicks my butt. Lots of folks that haven't put the work into fishing the lake call it the dead sea.

You must have been on the lake at an unusually clear time(late fall or winter). It's typically 4' to 6'. I fish it 50 to 75 trips a year. When they've been pumping water for days I've seen it down to 6" of visibility. Those fish are primarily sight feeders and the murky water puts them in a funk. Your time is better spent fishing elsewhere for a few days.

It's bulky but it works.

My finesse rigs are spooled 10 lb Berkley Fireline Ultra 8 Crystal to a 10' leader of Seaguar Red Label Fluorocarbon in either 6 - 8 lb test. You can use any braid color if you make your leader long enough. I use the Crystal color because it's easy to see and if it gets whiter then great. I tie the alberto knot because it's simple and quick to tie anywhere in any conditions. I caught a 16 lb striper a couple months ago reeling in my Ned rig on the 10 lb braid to 6 lb fluorocarbon. I feel confident that any LM I hook I can fight minus wrapping me on something.

I only use fluorocarbon for leaders at this point and it's working fine. I retie prior to every trip.

I'm not a fan of pistol grip rods but I fish a few creeks that are 80' to 90" wide at the widest point. I realized very quick that needed rods shorter than the 7' & 8'er's that I use on big waters. I picked up two $24 Berkley Cherrywood 5'6" Med casting rods(paired with Curado 70's) and they're perfect. I just ease down the center and pitch lures under the over hanging limbs effortlessly.

Seen them. I believe I'll stick with a standard jig. Reviews on TW aren't very promising.
