Just bought a spinning rod/reel. Did I make a mistake?
I own the 1500 size BG and absolutely love it and yes I have way lighter reels to compare it to. My only suggestion for you is to exchange it for a 2000 size which is a bit lighter and has all the line capacity you should need unless I’m missing something. It will be helpful if you share what you’re planning on using on the combo as well.

@Jar11591 Unfortunately Goose Island no longer brews a brown ale which they stopped even before being bought up, although I don’t drink a lot of their beers the standard IPA they brew is solid and very consistent taste wise. I’m not sure if anyone remembers JW Dundees honey brown lager but that’s the closest to the Michelob Honey that was only available in a Christmas 12 pack.

I don’t know if anyone remembers Goose Island’s HexNut Brown Ale but that along with Michelob’s Honey Lager were my favorite winter beers.

- Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
I slept through most of it only waking once when my daughter and wife were talking about the house shaking and then a crash of thunder shook the whole house and I went back to sleep.- Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
I was hoping to get out after work but life got in the way with a longer than expected day and me needing to get home to clear out the backyard before the storm rolls through.- Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I will add I’m going to look at the BPS Johnny Morris Platinum Signature Series spinning reel this weekend which I believe is based on the Procyon.- Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I don’t have the Daiwa Procyon but I do have a Shimano Stradic FL 1000 and a Daiwa BG 1500 to compare. I absolutely love my Shimano Stradic but my Daiwa BG at $70.00 cheaper feels every bit as top end with perfect line lay albeit a bit heavier at 2.0 ounces heavier but I would highly recommend looking into it.- Share your arsenal 2025
I meant to ask you about this when you posted. I just bought a Speed Demon Pro 6’-10” med/fast “jerk bait” rod last year and now I’m a bit nervous😬- New Rod: Cashion Icon
Depending on what type of cover you’re fishing in might dictate a bit more but I love throwing square bills and shallow crank baits on a couple dedicated crankin sticks and my favorite line is Suffix Advanced Monofilament in 10 pound test. I’m also a fan of McCoy mean green which is also a co-polymer line. And I also like Trilene Big Game monofilament in 10 pound test for crank baits.- Darn! Left one my of casting reels outside all year!!
You’re welcome 👍🏻- Show Off Your Work!
Those remind me of an episode of In Fishermen where Doug Stange removed the dressed treble hooks from a Terminator in line spinner bait and added a weighted swim bait hook. I’ve yet to try it out but I keep thinking one day I will. Yours however look homemade and very well done at that 👍🏻- Darn! Left one my of casting reels outside all year!!
@MoeBass If you’re fairly mechanical and comfortable doing I just googled/you tubed tear down/maintenance videos of your reel and there are a couple different ones if you’re interested. Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
I’m a big believer in waiting until there is a good sale, I’ve purchased or have received as gifts a few rods and reels over the years thanks to my wife and former MIL a few for Christmas when Tackle Warehouse had the Black Friday/Christmas sales. I also take advantage of the BPS spring sale that is going on now and trade in at least one item if not more but I’m pretty much done after this year with what I’ve wanted to and have upgraded over the years.- Intestinal blockage
That’s freaking fantastic 👍🏻- Rescued Dog
Awwww good on you for rescuing her and going above and beyond trying to find her a good home 👏🏻 I wish I was in the place to take her but we currently have 2 after losing our 3rd not long ago.- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
@FrnkNsteen Those are some cool looking reels👍🏻Although I don’t have a photo and I’ll have to also use an internet photo I also bought the Cabelas Arachnid online back when they were closing them out for I believe $129.99.- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
I got the same deal although the company I bought it from is in Florida. My reel is also a 6.3 left handed reel.- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
I’ve only purchased one used reel from ALF a Shimano Curado MGL in mint condition. But I also purchased a “open box” discounted Daiwa BG that was in perfect condition and I also purchased a leftover Daiwa Tatula Type R brand new in box from a tackle shop in 2020 that when I inquired about it they said it was sitting in the warehouse on a shelf forgotten about and again it was absolutely perfect and still is.- Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
@ATA I’m sincerely hoping everything is alright with Tank and his house along with yours more importantly. Also nice looking rainbow trout the better half is holding up.- The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
Soda bread not so much, but Firestone oh heck yeah count me in😜. My son turned me onto this brand several years ago with a 4 pack of double IPA’s or maybe imperial IPA’s that were some of the best tasting beers I’ve ever had but man did they sneak up on you 😬which is why they probably only sold them in the 4 pack😆 Tonight I’m indulging in Yuengling as it’s finally been brought to Illinois even though It’s been sold in Indiana for 🤔 I have no idea how long😉- Reels on AliExpress??
I’ve purchased twice over a handful of years and both times I received exactly what I ordered. I will say I agree with @JediAmoeba on both points as far as pricing and shipping but I wouldn’t hesitate to order from there again but I’ll add if you can figure out who’s selling it do a google search of that particular vendor.- What do you buy more often, new or used reels?
If I may ask where are you listing your used for sale gear? I’m not that far from you in New Lenox and I grew up in Tinley Park.- Shimano ultralight reel recommendations
