Congratulations are in order, I'm very jealous. You are to be commended for the clean and quick release, many people would not have done that. One question.....was that pectoral fin deformed?

You bring up a long held thought of mine, verified by experience through the years. Before a storm, fishing can be excellent. After the storm it becomes difficult to get a bite. If there was lots of thunder and lightning, it can be 24 hours before activity resumes. Is it just my own mindset, or do others agree? Like Spanky, I'm also sitting home right now instead of being on the lake due to an ongoing storm.

If some of you are tying an Alberto to a fluorocarbon leader and braid mainline, and the braid part of the knot is going through the guides first during a cast, please show and explain how you do that. Seriously. Maybe I just misunderstand the posts.

Wish I knew how to post a picture of this. I take a wooden bar stool and turn it upside down. I then push an elastic hair band through the line spool. Next I stretch that hair band between 2 legs of the stool, and position the line spool in the center. Most of the time I leave the reel on the rod and leave enough of the backing hanging from the rod tip to tie to the new line and begin reeling. All my reels are Daiwa T Wings so there is no problem with the knot passing onto the reel. I had that very spooling station for years. I got tired of loose line wrapping itself around those springs.

Mortality rate increases with barbed trebles when using a net. Often the hooks become entangled in a manner which makes removal very difficult, thus damaging both the fish and the net.

I fish solid body frogs a lot, usually prefer them over buzzbaits. Sometimes they roll over and retrieve with the hook point facing down. I usually use a screwlock hook, and sometimes will employ one with a 1/16 belly weight to correct the problem. I'm curious if some of you have other methods of making them remain upright.

I've broken 2 rods, about 65 or 70 years ago; both times I closed a door on them. The lesson has never been forgotten.

I've been hooked past the barb twice. The worst was when I swatted at a horse fly and drove a 2/0 jig hook deep into the base of my thumb. I was wet wading at 5:00 a.m., about an hour from my car and another hour to medical treatment. I pulled that hook out with pliers and remember feeling sorry for all the fish I'd done that to. I always wear glasses and a cap with a bill on it.

I often fish with barbless hooks, but can no longer find barbless trebles. If someone knows, I would like to hear. Thankyou.

Maybe it is a new cost cutting procedure. More reels packed into a bulk shipment could cost less to transport from Lews to TW. TW may find they save $ by placing each in a generic box without a plastic bag (and a wrench and oil). They sell a lot of reels , and most likely record the serial numbers; Lews probably has the schematics available on line. If it works for them, others will follow.

Those kids coming out of college with the huge student loan debts are being influenced into believing someone else should pay that off for them. This belief has magnified since 2020.

MMB, you nailed it. People like my deceased father and grandfathers would die a 2nd death if they could view the general work ethics of today. Another point to make is that people living on Social Security, who have put in up to 50 years on the job, oftentimes only one job, are dealing with the prices of goods and services created by the new wage scales. Social Security does not even come close to keeping up. What's more, when these older citizens go out to eat (if they can afford to) they are often made to feel like 2nd class citizens if they don't fork up a 30% tip.

This is more related to Bass Fishing.........I am retired and live in the heart of Bass Boat manufacturing. I'm a few minutes away from Ranger, Triton, Vexus, and Bass Cat. If anyone wants to work, and can submit a "somewhat clean" application, they could move here and receive 4 immediate job offers. These companies are offering sign on bonuses and other incentives, along with insurance and just about any other benefit I can think of. How about a 40% employee discount at Bass Pro? They are always short handed and try to carry extra employees because of the turnover rate and the ones who only work long enough to qualify for unemployment. On top of that, much of the younger generation believes there is nothing wrong with showing up late or not at all. I see kids looking like starving urchins while the parents have money for booze, drugs, cigarettes, and tatoos while they sit at home. I'm getting carried away again, signing off. .

Business owners pay up 50% of each employees social security; the higher the wages the more they pay. Unemployment Insurance is required of employers, and based on the amount of payroll, it also increases with the rate of former employees being awarded unemployment compensation. Don't know about today, I sold my business 12 years ago, but if I hired a high school or college student who wanted to work full time during the summer, I was required to provide him, or her, the same Health Insurance package which I fully paid for long time full time employees and myself if he worked over 29 hours per week. Add up those $ and you may get a feeling of what a Business owner is faced with and most people don't understand. The people who really make the huge incomes could understandably lose their initiative to grow a business and create new jobs and higher incomes for employees if regulations regulate their ability to progress. You are right, it's not easy being in business.

The ease of quitting a job and drawing unemployment is a large part of the problem; some make a career of just that. Employers have difficulty getting "clean" job applicants; so does the military.
