  1. Agreed! I hope I never get so hungry that I would even consider killing a smallmouth for food. Why kill the greatest fighting sportfish in fresh water, which are the object of my passion?
  2. Use fluorocarbon line and a simple granny knot; you already have it on hand. Quick, easy, works great, don't worry about the correct guage or color of wire.
  3. Began at the age of 2, sitting on my grandmother's lap on the bank of a small creek behind the house. Tackle consisted of a broken off tree branch with a short string, hook, small stick for a bobber, hook, and a worm; caught creek chubs and small bullheads. That was in 1944. Dad came home from the War in 1946 and my angling experiences with him moved me up to catfish and bass. Today, at the age of 79, I'm continuing to upgrade and expand my collections of lures and tackle which fill my house, garage and new $100,000 bass boat. 77 years of fishing and still looking ahead.
  4. Agree with TOXIC. Definitely buy from the dealership you prefer for service. Check them out.
  5. No wonder it's getting worse, you're killing each one you catch.
  6. Catch and release Bass fishing is No Kill Hunting.
  7. Bass which are caught and released are easiest to digest, while Bass on a plate turn my stomach. Why kill the object of my favorite sport?
  8. I have a 21 ft Vexus fiberglass boat with Lowrance electronics. When in Anchor Lock position, my boat moves around considerably more than my friend's Ultrex when in Spotlock on the same boat model. Hopefully some of the Bass Resource readers have encountered a similar situation and are willing to share how they solved it.
  9. Daiwa Zillion SVTWG if I outlive all the backorder extensions.
  10. I actually have some "jointed Rapalas", but never heard them called "split back".
  11. What is a split back Rapala??
  12. Yellow River Runt or a Tin Liz, don't remember which one; it was in the 1940's.
  13. Could be a Culprit, but I'm inclined to think "Rattlesnake, in Tequila Sunrise", if still available.
  14. I'm interested in one too. One that won't be permanently ruined from a normal shower or lying on a damp deck or simply absorbing moisture from early morning fog. Please help us both out.

Great smallmouth bait; I stockpiled two sizes in the hollow tube, also some of their craw worms. Use them on a regular tube jighead, even a dropshot. The craw worms make good trailers. I'm beginning to run low on the smaller size tube in certain colors.
  16. My backorder shows a June 21st date.
  17. Let's say your jig is hopelessly snagged 20 feet deep, using 15# fluorocarbon line. You have to break off, not wanting to cut the line and leave 20 feet of line in the water. How do you break that line at or near the jig?
  18. I caught a male smallmouth which was guarding a nest in clear, shallow water; he was only 12-13 inches long. When released, he made a beeline back to the nest and immediately began torpedoing the several 30 inch carp which were already circling the nest. An hour later he was still holding his ground.

  20. I am looking for a new scale which is accurate and waterproof. Does anyone know what the MLF uses? I'm also open to recommendations based on personal experience.
  21. I'm a Daiwa reel fan, own about 20 of them. The next one I buy will be used only for long casts with deep diving cranks. I would like to hear from others what they know, from experience, to be the best Daiwa reel for this application.
  22. Easiest solution for myself is to tie them on with whatever fluorocarbon or monofilament line I have available. I usually look at the collar to check for signs of deterioration and will tie the fluoro. or mono. right over top of it. Quick, easy, and inexpensive.
  23. How do you know which direction the fish are coming from, and where they are going??
