  1. Yes, these small lakes are only accessible by walking a trail but there's a parking lot about 100 feet from one of the lakes I plan on fishing so it's not that big of a walk.
  2. Hello Bassresource, The title really says it all, I'm 6'1 and 305 lbs, I plan on attempting to get a kayak that can sustain my weight for some lakes in the backwoods I would like to take it to during the summer that I've caught bass from, I was told of Kayaks like the Hobie series but I simply can't afford that at the moment. any fellow big guys/anglers recommend a kayak for me? My Price range is 700$ - 900$. I look forward to the responses!
  3. Did the internet teach me how to fish for bass? No. Did the internet help me fish for bass correctly? Yes. I'm gonna be completely honest. If it wasn't for the following youtube channels/websites I would still be throwing a basic senko everytime I go fishing. -Bassmaster.com -***.com -Bassresource.com -Realistic Fishing -Tactical Bassin -NDyakangler -Tackle Junky -Lakeforkguy If it wasn't for these people/communities I would've never learned so much about this great passion of mine, all thanks to the wonders of the internet.
  4. Oh man A-jay I already miss watching your videos on Lake Menderchuck. I know the feeling of not having Open Water for long periods of time, here in NY/NJ we get this really weird period of cold weather after January in the upper 30s/40s but it causes very thin ice on our ponds and lakes, it'll probably be like this until mid March, even in April we can still get temperatures in the low 40s and it honestly makes the fishing miserable, the bass will all of a sudden get into pre spawn mode if there's 55+ weather for a day or two and then the second it hits below 50 they go right back to winter mode. I just want those mid summer mornings on the lake back hahahahahaha
  5. How so? Bad experiences? Is it even worth using on Finesse setups though? I currently have 10lb power pro moss colored for that setup//
  6. Hey Bassresource! This past season I had 17lb straight flurocarbon on my designated texas rig and jig combo, a 7'3 Lews Laser paired with a Pfluger President XT, I had much success with this combo this past summer and fall but I had braid on this same setup earlier in the spring of 2019, it was 20lb power pro and I disliked it heavily. I was loosing every lure I casted with it. The braid digging into itself was too much to handle and I switched back to Flourocarbon, but I'm willing to give braid a second chance, I keep hearing stories of the success of anglers using this type of line for well...texas rigs and jigs. The sensitivity, the extra casting distance etc. If I was to get back into using braid on baitcasters what would be a good lb to start off with? Maybe also some advice on what leader line to use again that can handle baits being dragged and hopped along the bottom? Thanks BR and I look foward to the responses! Fish on.
  7. 1. Getting a backlash while teaching someone how to use a baitcaster. 2. Dropping your rods by accident while walking. 3. Fishing a public park pond and accidentally hitting some innocent kid watching you fish with your jig while trying to cast. (True story) 4. Slipping on Mud near the bank. 5. Hooking a snapping turtle and having 5+ people surround you watching.
  8. As a former DSG Employee here in NY what this company is doing is a classic "shoot yourself in the foot situation" as I like to call it, I worked part time in Apparel from 2018 to early 2019 and they were already getting rid of the hunting area. They also moved the fishing area to the back part of the store. I recently went in there to renew my fishing license and the fishing isle was completely gone. I personally don't see DSG lasting long into the new decade, as some other users said in this thread they did bad business when they took a political stance on the sales of AR-15s. I really hope we continue to see the rise of Academy & Tackle Warehouse this decade in the fishing market. They know what we as anglers want and always deliver it.
  9. Persistence, and learning how to adapt to the ever changing situations I'll encounter on the water.
  10. Don't care what size it is, the fact that I have a bass on the end of my line and that feeling of sensation is enough to keep me motivated and continue fishing. The fight is the best part of fishing for me.
  11. Title really says it all, I have to restock on Soft Plastics soon and I already have a lineup of GP but I am conflicted on Black and Blue. Some waters here in NY are heavily stained and dirty during the summer months, this past season I tried Black and Blue and didn't really have any luck. Should I switch to junebug? I heard good things about that color.
  12. this makes two of us. I live in NY and DSG has a good amount of stuff here besides Walmart and ordering stuff from TW. AC needs to open stores up here.
  13. The only thing that's going to end up killing bass is if we mutate some hybrid bass and other fish species like they did with the T-rex in jurassic world and the new predator only feeds on normal bass. Bass aren't going anywhere, I hear so many people say that the common carp are going to wipe them out but this is only a half truth and depends on the body of water. IMO If a pond/lake has a huge carp population and if they just started to stock bass in the waterbodies odds are the bass won't do well. (We have a Carp Pond here in my town in NY that they tried stocking bass and bluegil in and the bass haven't really been doing well in there. You'd be lucky to catch one at all.) IMO if a waterbody introduces carp to a huge bass population they actually work pretty well together. Carp clean up on the excessive vegetation and can open up more body structure for bass to hang out in such as channels and humps.
  14. Hey Bassresource The title really says it all, recently I've had much success fishing tiny grubs for crappie and creek chubs at a local small creek here in New York state. After having luck with slabs and panfish I plan to try out some finesse grubs for bass once the weather starts to warm up here. What would be some all around good grubs and jighead sizes to get for bass? this style of fishing is really simple yet fascinating.
  15. Thanks for the advice! I am 6'1 and a big guy at 280lb. I plan on buying the 115 because of the reviews of other bigger fishermen that use and the stability reviews. I plan on using most of the summer at my Relatives private lake. We have a lakehouse in a shallow cove that I will test it out in. Already bought the PFD and plan to buy some other accessories like a little fish finder.
  16. Hey Bassresource. I am currently in the works of buying my very first fishing kayak, a wilderness systems ride 115 to be exact. I wanted to know how much fishing gear I should carry when fishing in it during the warmer months on my local backwoods lakes and ponds here in Pennsylvania. I was told that you should bring light gear (Only your rods and some light tackle) and other people said just only bring your rods with Pre-selected lures tied onto them. Also my second question about bringing gear onto your kayak is about the kayak flipping over, any way to secure your rods or gear so they don't sink when the kayak flips over? I look forward to the responses!
  17. What would be a good size for the kastmaster jigging spoons for bass? I heard anywhere from 1/2oz to 3/4oz is the perfect size range if you're trying to catch larger sized fish like smaller bass and crappie/big perch.
  18. I have no confidence in shakeyheads. I have never caught a crankbait bass. (2020 goal) I have no confidence in wacky rigging anymore. ^ (The texas rig is just so effective.)
  19. Honestly, in the winter... I would try to fish from 11 AM to at least 3 PM, before the waters here in NY froze over the bite was hot during that time slot in Early December.
  20. My 2019 season is over lol. I just want Christmas day to get here already so I can idolize all my new fishing stuff (significant other isn't allowing me to open anything beforehand) LOL
  21. A buddy I fish with from work recommends the Sieberts line, do you know I can purchase these? any websites?
  22. Fishmas shopping is coming to an end for me, this is my last day to order remaining items, I have 75% of my items on their way but I forgot my jigs on the shopping cart so I'm reordering them today and having overnight shipping from tackle warehouse. Now this goes back to the question in the title, do any of you guys have any recommendations for do it all jigs? Specifically casting jigs. I already have enough football jigs in my tacklebag but I planned on buying some casting jigs for Christmas, I look forward to the responses! Happy Holidays!
