  1. KOOL KATS! What kind were they? I couldn't see their heads very well but they looked like flatheads. I've not tried catfish here yet, too busy chasing the bass

I'm jealous! I want so badly to catch a peacock!! Look out Florida, I may make it down there later this year with two goals...see westpalmdude and kick his tale peacock fishing!
  3. With a son like Jas (westpalmdude) who needs material gifts? : Just kidding! This is actually the second 5#9oz largemouth I've caught this year, strange! This one is shorter and chunkier(like me). She was caught on a watermelon seed lizard, c-rig'd just like the other one. We only had a couple of hours to fish before dark so I didn't run far. Sure got to have a hook in the water to catch one. We'd caught 7 bass. Joe had two, I had 5. I had 4 smallies out of the five. We were watching the sun set, had just seen a couple of wild turkeys in the back of a bay, we were enjoying God's gift! I was singing (scarry thought) "No more fishies for me" "No more fishies for me" when she was just there. She didn't act like a bass. No big fight but I knew it was a nice fish of some sort. Just before getting to the boat, she decided to fight. She went under the boat, back towards the bank, back at me and under the boat again. All the time I'm fussing at myself. I'd been saying that I needed to retie. Lie was frayed but just kept putting it off. I was gonna kick myself if she got off. Joe netted her perfectly and I'm still smiling! Son, you can keep the gators, I'll keep Ky Lake Bass! and remember Sunday is Mother's Day and remember ...... I love you too!
  4. Hey Nick, sorry you had such a crappy tournament :'(. Good luck on the upcoming one! Not all prefishing is bad Hope you enjoyed the Kentucky hospitality! We've not bad folks but our bass can kick butt! : Maybe you can come back sometime and just enjoy! deb

Not that I'm an expert by any means...due to back surgery I mainly fish plastics. My son calls it sissy fishing but hey, I'm fishing! and catching. I mostly carolina rig, just starting T.rig. I use alot of 6in lizards, Ky lake bass seem to like them. SLOW is the key. when you think you're fishing slow, slow down more. It works fishig the banks and drops as well. Good Luck, catch a bunch. Remember.....S...L...O...W............. Oh yeah, I also keep the line between my fingers to feel everything.
  8. I'll ask it anyway. How in the dickens do I get my reel apart? It's an Abu Garcia 2005 LP. I got it last fall and used it very little. It was casting extremely well, no backlashes or anything. Then it started making a high pitched whinning noise while casting. I thought, Ok, I'll take it apart and oil it. Read the manual, started removing parts. yes, all the screws are out. Handle and assorted parts with it. Now what? I can't get the body apart. Do I need a bigger hammer????????? ;D
  9. RW, you have my utmost respect. In reading thru the forums the past few months, you amaze me with your knowledge. You've probably forgotten more about fishing than I'll ever know but I'll keep trying and hopefully learning. Thanks!
  10. Avid, have you tried a drag line to find that rod? We use them to drag up trot lines that have been cut or broken off. I've seen my dad find lines in 40+ ft of water. It's like an old window weight with 4 "hooks" about 2 in long attached, slightly curved. They pull everything up, just got to be patient and keep trying. Keep on cleaning. When everything else fails, try some Crown cleaner. It's at Walmart. It will clean everything just be careful on paint. Enjoy Christmas!!!!!!!1
  11. Love the pics, especially seeing another female that enjoys fishing. Welcome!!! I'm westpalmdude's mom. Don't hold that again me. : I love to bass fish but look out in a couple of weeks the big bluegill will be on the bank in front of my house. That's a blast too. Last yr. my sister-n-law and I were catfishing and she caught a 5 ft snake! Dangist thing I've ever seen! Keep on catching!!!!!!!!
  12. Nah, it's just a special bond between a fishing mom and son. Strange, it's been many years since we've gotten to fish together. Not that we don't want to but things just haven't worked out. Last time I was there, it was for his surgery. The last few times he's been home, it's been for funerals. We'll get it worked out one of these days. I think deep down he's proud I'm his mom. I've been fishing tournaments for 11 or 12 yrs. Nothing big but I've done ok. He's glad to be out of Ky and I'm proud to be in it! Avid, you're in his area, right? It's gonna take me a couple of months to build the furniture he's wanting. Depending how much time I spend on the lake. But I'll try to bring it down for him when I get it finished. Do you have a peacock spot you'd share? For yrs I've wanted to catch one. OK, as many as possible but one is more than I've caught so far.
  13. Hey Jas, if you're not careful, Mom will have to drive down to FL and show you how to catch fish with soft plastics. Might be a good time to bring you a truckload of that driftwood furniture you've been trying to get me to build. Only catch to this is, I want to go catch peacock bass!! I'll show you how to do it. Cause, that's what good moms do............Challenge on..........I'll even take your picture IF you catch any..........
  14. You're right, it is reality. Scarry...I think when I order our tire and jack, I'll see if BP has "signs" as well. They're probably out of them. They seem to be in great demand. The weather is predicted to be absolutely beautiful this weekend. Ky Lake will covered up. I think I'll unload some of the tackle and make room for the camcorder, camera, tire, jack, signs and a big first aid kit! Maybe even add Ace bandages to wrap around our ribs. Look out squirrels, I'm watching............................Get ready bass, here we come!!!!!!

Double WOW, WOW. Can't decide what I think. Not that it matters.
  16. Have you ever been out fishing and the fish weren't cooperating? And happened onto the best comedy show around and basically for free. We finally got a couple of hours on Ky Lake this afternoon. While fishing down a bank we came upon a public ramp. (Not really a surprise we live right across from it.)(Usually good for SEVERAL bass) There was a steady stream of people coming out of a motor home, must have been at least 42 of them. Out of state tags, this may be good. Two fellows from the group are backing in two boats. First one completely blocks both sides of the ramp. It must have taken at least 15 min to get the boat in the water. A lady was holding the rope to pull the boat up but of course they continued to block the ramp. After they finally get in the next group proceeds, well some of them. It started with 2 people, again the one driving the truck was also the only one that could drive the boat. Again several attempts before getting the boat wet. The second boat yells to the 1st...Did you put the plug in?.....First boat leaves, second makes it to the dock. Here comes 3 more people to join in. There were rods sticking out everywhere. The older gentleman who obviously knew exactly what was going on, was giving orders like crazy. You get that life jacket, no not that one the one under it. No the other one under it. People were fumbling around like a bunch of squirrels. Now, this was a small boat maybe 14 ft. All of the life jackets were the big bulky orange things. One younger guy was on the dock, trying to hold the boat and assist all the squirrels. Suddenly he yells, wait, lets get the tire out. Tire, in the boat. Yes, of course, that's what I've been doing wrong all these years. I've been forgetting to take a spare tire out fishing with me. You know, just in case. I'm sitting there trying not to fall out of the boat or get myself whipped for laughing at these folks. Steadily backing our boat away from the boatload of squirrels. Who knows whats gonna happen when they try to drive it. The younger fellow heads back to the motorhome complete with the tire, a license plate, and a HUGE dipnet. Finally they all got loaded in, and headed out, wide open straight to the back of the bay. A very shallow bay. We hear the older guy yell to the first boat, come on, I hear the crappie that are biting are in two ft of water. Just as they ride off into the sunset comes a truck pulling a pontoon boat. Woman and child get in the boat, man backs them in. Good no problem. I'm thinking, cool another female that can drive a boat. He keeps backing in. Nothing happens. The boat doesn't budge. He backs up more. By now the bed of the truck has water in it. I'm thinking, ok get ready...you're gonna need those nursing skills soon. Real Soon! The woman goes to the front of the boat, sits down and tries to shove the boat off. He's yelling get in the #@*% boat! After yelling this 3 or 4 times, She gets up, he takes off. Up the ramp. I thought she was gonna fly out the back of the pontoon. He gets out, checks the strap, yep, it's still hooked up. Hey, he's checking the back tie downs. Yep, they're right where they are supposed to be...When traveling. Ok, unhook them. You can do it. I'm sitting there in total amazement as to how these folks can manage to pull the boats without totaling them out or killing someone. Much less be on the lake. Finally, the ramp is clear. I troll up and we start casting. Nothing. Not even a nibble. Guess maybe the bass are still laughing at all the squirrels. My husband had never been around boats much less had one till he married me 2 yrs ago. He's learning, fast. He backs the boat in but hasn't yet learned how to drive it or the trolling motor. He has been surprized to see some of the sights we've seen. I'm sitting there enjoying being on the water and letting my jaws quit aching when my husband says. "Dear, when we get home, would you get online and see if Bass Pro has one of those tires for our boat and while your at it, be sure and get a jack to go with it"! Ok, it's time to go home...
  17. I'm jealous, you didn't take me to catch some of those when I was down there! I see how MOM rates.
  18. I know what you mean. Got DSL about a month ago. It's stilll strange when the phone rings and I'm online. Who knows what's next? I've heard we may even have cable available here on the lake bank in a couple of months. Roll the rock away from the doorway!
  19. Back in younger days, I might have tried it. Heck, I did do it. No way now! I'll leave fight'n mother nature to you younger folks. You've got GRIT! (that's a good thing) Keep on catching!!!
  20. Nice fish!! I'm think'n I may have to find some ponds to play in when Ky Lake is upside down. Oh yeah, my Dad has a very small one. Haven't fished it is a few yrs. Last time, I caught a 5lb'r 1st and only cast. I was just trying to prove to Dad that it Did have fish. Oh, stupid me!!!!
