  1. I remember when Aquaview came out, back then I had a boat and thought well leave it to someone to take the fun out of everything. Fishing is fishing, it's not called catching but catching sure is fun and that's why we do it! Expert is a relative term.
  2. You should look at some JDM rods, or Japanese made rods from Japan, they make some of the most sensitive rods on earth. Major Craft high end rods are fantastic for feel, once you own one you'll never go back, but you are sounding like you love finnese fishing thats a whole different game than just fishing for whatever bites.
  3. I've owned almost every rod brand and I think Loomis is an overprice rod, lots of just as good stuff out there way under what their rods cost. Shimano makes great rods and you can find a nice one starting at $50 bucks and up. For reels I think Shamano can't be beat, it has a super great warranty, I bought two Lew's recently and returned them both they can't hold a light to Shimano. I'm going to buy the SLX XT or the SLX MGL haven't decided totally yet.
  4. Academy has some with a cheap Abu reel for 52.00
  5. Have been fishing all week, will go again this afternoon and tomorrow. I've caught lots of shell crackers and small bass, really warm here in central NC do the fish are lazy.
  6. Nice job looks really super good!
  7. I went fishing yesterday after all the remnant rain from Zeta moved in, pond banks were flooded, caught bass, crappie and brim, go fishing whenever you like! Rain washes stuff into the water fish eat it along with bait you throw. I caught one bass and brim in shallow water, the rest mid depth, couldn't reach deepest water so don't know but they most likely would have bit there too.
  8. The saying "be gentle with others because you never know what burden they are carrying" is so true. It takes time to get use to loosing anyone you love, but it takes an act of courage and determination to find the spark in life after loosing a child. The grandest thing in life is LIFE itself, so I hope one day you find courage to pick up a fishing rod and go fishing again.
  9. Yes, thank you I've enjoyed being here on this site and feel like a member!
  10. Blue Fox inline spinner, I've caught dinks and lots of 5,6, pound bass on that lure! Been fishing it for 30 years.
  11. Lots of pros and biologist study fish, they say red is the color fish see best and react to, yet we all have every color under the sun to fish with. I think color matters to fish, and matters to people because certain lure colors give them confidence while fishing.
  12. I've been fishing most everyday since it cooled off and is now fall in N.C. Today the panfish were biting live bait, worms and minnows, bass were hitting anything that looks like a minnow and chatter baits! Pond fishing that is so get outdoors and enjoy the fish are turned on.
  13. Anyone know of any clubs in central N.C. ?
  14. I've been fishing every day since it started cooling off some, caught a possible 6lb bass can't say how long it actually was just guesstimated it broke off in the weeds when I got it to the bank, sure was fun reeling it in, my first catch on a lipless strike king red eye. I went shopping for more crank baits and had one take my lewis rattle trap from me sung my reel and broke the line. I refuse to stop finese fishing!
  15. To simplify things all you really need to know is the tap at the end of the line, little bitty fish can't make a huge tap and for sure big fish can. Having a good fishing rod helps always, you can't feel much if you're fishing with heavy line and a rod the size of a broom stick.
  16. Start practicing in your yard, throw at stuff get close, drop it in light etc. If you cast enough you'll build up brain wrist arm memory so when you get on the water you'll have memory on how to do it.
  17. Waiting to set the hook gives the fish chance to exhale out and you loose it, also you will gut hook a lot of fish by waiting to set the hook, get proficient with the hook set and you'll catch lots more fish! This is why I rarely fish plastics I hate gut hooking a fish, gotta move fast, thats why we spend lots of money on extra sensitive rods and reels! SET THE HOOK NO WAITING.
  18. Mono is my pick, green Stren Magnathin is the best I've fished that line for over 50 years it can't be beat IMO, everyone use to carry it but now you have to order it but it's still worth it. My second pick for ultra light set ups is trout line I find at Walmart only comes in 2,4, & 6lb. yellow green super good line hard to break!
  19. I have owned many pairs of sunglasses Costa, Oakley, RayBans, and a multitude of cheap knock offs. The health people make sunglasses makers put UV lens in all sunglasses so you don't burn out your eyes. To get a good pair to fish with polarized ones are necessary and make a huge difference! Next are you going to be fishing in bright light, low light are all kinds of light if so then you need medium to dark gray lenses, amber and green make everything look overexposed, you have to be almost blind to really like those I think. So brands do matter but any good polarized sunglasses with a nice lens will work. I prefer Costa because all of them are polarized and they are super nice to fish in. Oakley makes glasses for the military and you can't go wrong with that, they are cheaper than Costa but of really good quality. Get online and look up Sierra Trading and Moosejaw they sell last year models and check out sale glasses at Academy, Dicks, etc. Buy cheap ones now save up for good ones later, ask for a pair for your birthday.
  20. I agree with Tom "Every day on the water is a gift, enjoy every moment." and I do!
  21. That's really cool! I use to have a boat and I fished Harris a lot, it's a beautiful lake, I like to chase the schoolies.
  22. I love that lake, too many tournaments held on it, you need a boat to fish though too big to walk the banks.
  23. High 70's here tomorrow wind is light and 5-10 is great for fishing makes some waves the bass can't see your bait as well so that smack at it. I'm going fishing Saturday temp in the low 80's wow spring make it!
  24. Falls Lake out of Durham, N.C. has them I've caught lots of med size ones fishing for crappies on minnows.
  25. I think most of the lakes, parks and recreation areas are open in North Carolina but I haven't checked as of today so don't hold me to that. I've been fishing ponds but I'm going to the lake close to my house later this week when it stops raining. Yep N.C. weather goes from 84 degrees to 44 in a 24 hr time span, common here in the spring! The bass are biting and crappies most likely spawned already in some areas. I'd go even if the close the lakes I'd just walk through the woods dressed in camo.
