  1. Yes I'm going to fish for trout starting next week and I will not be putting up my rods just keeping them clean and organizing some stuff in the shop. More fishing not less!
  2. Fish eat and strike at everything that moves at least once. It isn't as scientific as we try to make it but it sure is fun! That's why it's called fishing instead of catching. lol
  3. I've fished every week since the weather cooled off, I fish ponds, mostly shallow ones a few deep ones. I've thrown a lot of stuff and found after a few sunny days the bass move to mid depths and banks close to deep water. I caught one bass today and missed 2. Inline spinners work well in cold water, I've fished them for years. Live bait night crawlers and minnows rigged on Carolina rig or split shot catches crappie, bass and brim if you have the patience to sit still for a while. It's winter fishing really fall is gone here, so it's slow going. I'm going to fish the ponds that are stocked with trout starting next week, never targeted them so it might be fun.

Way to go, will you be mounting it or did you put her back in the pond?
  5. I have worn out at least 5 gold cast reels, used them fishing for schoolies, lots of fun you gotta be fast so the closed reel works really well casting from a boat. They are good reels just not for everyone, I don't have one now. Easy for kids and people who really don't appreciate fine craftsmanship in fishing reels.
  6. Mono for everything, green. braid doesn't float and who wants to tie on leaders to a fishing line and who wants to carry scissors.
  7. Don't spend a hundred dollars on a book take the money and go somewhere warm and go fishing!
  8. Well of course everyone gave their opinion and ideas as what you should do. The best answer was the one that said relax and fish like you did when you were younger. Live bait is super fun especially catching brim! Fishing isn't a contest, it's being outside in nature, taking your friend, kids, wife or yourself out side for some fun. Buy a six pack of beer, take a lawn chair, worms and relax!
  9. My biggest hit was catching a 8+ LM and I lost count on how many 2-3lbers sweet summer fishing. Learned lots about new lures and fishing equipment thanks to you guys! I hooked a fish this morning that felt like a tree stump and when it rolled the hook out I almost cried cause I knew that could have been a LIFE TIME catch. Ah there's always next year. I live in the south so I'll fish on warm days for crappie and whatever hits my hooks. Fish on and keep the line screaming!
  10. Cabela's brand rod looks just like the rod you had fixed, super nice rods for the money.
  11. St. Croix is a heavy rod and that's why I don't own one lots of rods out there that are way more sensitive, just as good and long lasting. SC has sold rods on their name. I have Shimano, Quantum, and Cabela's they are all fantastic rods the Quantum is 30 years old and as good as when it was new. It's all about what you like. I hate Shakespeare ugly stick, who wants to fish with a stick?
  12. Get on Sierra Trading online store they have super prices on Costa and more sunglasses, I bought a pair of Costas this summer love them blue lens which are a gray on the inside wonderful for fishing, they are rather dark in low light of course, all Costas are polarized. Oakley are good but not as good as costa.
  13. I'd love to have a blue one any chance you'd trade for oh I don't know a tin full of home made cookies?
  14. The best lure is the lure you have confidence with and have caught fish on. Then start throwing something different so you have many lures you can use to catch fish. My all time favorite is a spinner, I've fished with it for 30 years and caught many fish, always my go to bait because I have confidence in it, I know how to throw it use it. Get to fishing and learn cause there is no magic lures.
  15. Don't stop fishing just because of weather, nows the time to practice your real skills, finesse, slow down, different colors of bait, etc. Some fish are feeding on something most times and in fall you never know when one is there waiting to take your bait. I caught a 2lb crappie the other day after a cold front, caught it on a small brim jig!
  16. I use to fish a lake were the bass schooled a lot and I threw a fluke always bet I caught hundreds of bass off that lure, I chased those schoolies for 10 years what fun. Once I saw a school of fish in the late summer that looked to be half an acre large, no lie never have I seen anything like that, and mostly big fish 4-5 lbs!
  17. I live in the Piedmont of N.C. been fishing ponds heavy all summer and up to now. Fish are already cooled off and the bite has too, soon as the cold front moves on out and it warms back up might get better but fall is definitely here, and I hate it! Gotta fish every day the sun is a shining or not.
  18. Thanks for the side to side, I get that. I went fishing late afternoon yesterday caught 3 bass on the fluke, works really well if it's a little windy, which it was. Everybody should use what works for them, I gave up swivels years ago rarely tie one on not useful line twist shouldn't be a problem with flukes and I use mono not interested in anything else to use as line. I've wasted a lot of money on braid and fluorocarbon don't like either. Fluke jr is good when the bite is light.
  19. Hey did you find a fishing partner already? I live a hour from Harris fished it heavy in years past but I don't have a boat now. Are you a gentleman, married, old or young? l'm a lady fisherwoman so I have to be cautious, and don't laugh too much ok.
  20. Shimano Sedona reel is one of the best for the money buy a 3000 if you're chasing bass, you can always spool it with lighter line and catch crappie easily! 75.00 at big box stores if you're not afraid of online shopping you'll beat that price easily.
  21. You want a perfect line which there are none. The mono tied to braid is defeating the purpose of using braid, like I said just use mono and forget about it.
  22. No I tie the hook straight onto the line, using a swivel changes the action of the fluke.
  23. I've never used a leader, why use braid if you're going to tie on a piece of mono or fluorocarbon, makes no sense just use mono and forget it! One line tied straight onto the bait, no weak spots to break. If you need to have the stretch feel on braid then you really aren't in love with it. My opinion.
  24. I have caught a zillion bass on flukes, love them, used them since they first came out, and actually rigging really doesn't matter, your preference. Any rod reel setup you'd normally use to fish for bass and rigging them upside down is the easiest but not necessary. Fish them on top slow, jerk them, up and down retrieve or carolina rig them.
  25. Yes I agree totally, it's sad that fishing gear is hard to sale or at least cheap fishing gear. I use to buy bunches of stuff until I ran out of room to store it, now I try and spend time fishing instead of collecting. Just saying and hey to each his own whatever wiggles your worm.
