Top water in the rain
Don't own an array of top water baits but the ones I own all work well. Often one works better on a given day. Buzzbaits Ploppers Pop R Frogs I'd be more inclined to throw the Pop R in the rain but think in light misting rain, all could be productive.

I’m going to say something I truly never thought I’d say...
Yes Texas is a significant jump from Maryland regarding bigger better bass. Reap the benefits and enjoy.

Life Jacket
Went to the inflatable this year and really like the freedom, range of motion. Onyx M24 under $100. BUT you do have to remember to pull the cord before inhaling water.

Trouble with Whopper Ploppers
The 110 makes quite a bit of commotion, more so than any top water I've thrown. The 90 has actually been a go to of mine lately, producing some fish. I've been positioning my boat against the bank and casting horizontal against shore vegetation and structure using a steady retrieve.....like a buzzbait.

My hook up ratio sucks
You may be dealing with an inappropriate rod for the task, possibly. I recently bought what I thought would be an ideal spinnerbait rod, lost fish after fish as they leaped and spit the bait. The new rod was a MH moderate and after examination, closely resembled a heavy action. I was opening up some size holes in the fishes mouth allowing an easy escape. Went back to a decently stout med fast and problem solved. Enough bend in the rod to ride out the tail dancing. Loosing them under water at the boat could be the opposite though.

Finally
Not being able to get a haircut was a huge disappointment during the pandemic. Finally succumbed and resorted to dog shears. When the barber finally opened I went in for a realignment.

What's more important?
I'll take (1) 5lb bass over (25) 1lb bass everytime. But if I can't catch a good one I'm willing to negotiate.

Zoom Ol Monster Magnum Worms

You know what grinds my gears...
I recently bought a Lews Speed spool LFS for $74 Amazon prime. Tried it, liked it so proceeded to buy another only to find it at $90. What's funny is if the original reel I purchased was $90 I'd have no issue paying it again but for now, it's sitting in the cart.

What Kind Of Fish Is This??
Smallmouth bass, some refer to them as brown bass.

One Solution to Crowded Water ~ Fish at Night
Yes, good point. The huge crowds have definitely taken a toll on my desire to fish all day. I get on the water around 4 am and usually have some solitude for couple hours, actually catch all my fish in that span but by 10 am.....I'm gone.

Braid to leader guy trying straight floro, couple questions
I'm a braid to leader guy for the reasons you mentioned.....don't stray.

Confidence
When I'm in a somber mood and just want to be left alone from the human race and all aquatic species.....I tie on a chatterbait.

Fish weight
That's a good fish.....I'd say a solid 5.

Confidence
I stick to certain baits for hours if I think they should produce under the conditions I may be fishing under. OR if I catch a fish on a certain bait, find myself hanging in there a little to long after they quit producing......stubbornness. What I find odd yet must be taken into consideration is bass may hit a bait with regularity in one lake but the lake just down the road they want nothing to do with it. But yes, often get asked " you ever gonna change baits? " , just a few more casts.

Time
I was fortunate to retire at 58 last year and without doubt, time on the water quadrupled but so did household responsibilities. I now do all the laundry and dishes. Lol All my weekends are spent with my wife, usually RVing and always have my boat in the truck......a lake must be present at every campground/state park. ? To answer your question " can you fish as much as you like? ", pretty much but I've slowed down considerably due to the drastic increase in fishing pressure of late.

Coping with the crowds this year
Every day of the week closely resembles memorable day weekend on all the lakes I fish. Most are snagging high in surrounding sycamore trees but still HEAVY boat traffic.

People are Back
Same scenario here in the north western part of VA, everything opening back up. Interstate 81 back to capacity, perhaps beyond. Churches, restaurants, and all state and GWNF campgrounds open and most already booked for the summer. This Covid is going to have a slingshot effect on the economy I believe. Already mentioned in another thread that I fished a 31 acre lake " lake Robertson " with 37 other boats, it's been crazy. AND, the wife and I finally get to go to our favorite Italian restaurant Friday evening.

How much does the lure have to be worth before you'll go swimming?
Use the tree limbs as an indicator. Lower limbs " reachable " get the 110's , swimbaits ,the expensive stuff. Higher limbs " unreachable " get the Walmart lures and anything in the tackle box worth eliminating. Deep water snags with exposed hooks is very effective in controlling inventory. Truthfully though, If I can't see the lure and any attempt to free it fails, it simply gets broken off and I move on.

If it's that expensive, I only cast it in shallow water. Cheap lures get casted into the trees.

I have a few Kastking speed Demon Pro's, rods and reels and have been very satisfied with performance.
