  1. They probably all come out of the same chinese factory. These have worked well for me. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GRQRPBW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Also, what do you mean the wire is pulling out? Like the wire is breaking off the main clip thing?
  2. The place is legit but most rods purchased from there are factory seconds - no warranty
  3. The warranty is worth $70 to me
  4. Isn't that something you can do on any quality reel?? turn the brakes up real high = no backlash
  5. ^ I've found the difference this makes is huge on Daiwas. The stock spool bearings are pretty good too. From what I've seen the most common upgrades are Flush spool bearings and oil with TSI 321 Replace handle bushings with bearings (you'll have to mess with the shims) Replace levelwind bushings with bearings (some people don't like bearings here since its an area that typically gets lots of water) If you want stuff for show there's plenty of stuff too.
  6. I've had luck with rapala floaters in those conditions.
  7. ^ the fish are always going to be 5-10 feet further than you can cast anyway
  8. Yeah but ive never considered a surgeon's loop for this purpose or seen it used that way. Seems like it should work ...
  9. ngl this ^ confused the crud outta me
  10. That should work well. 15# is what I tend to use as backing as well. Unlike others, I typically just eyeball it with the backing.
  11. You're planning on using the Big Game for main line or backing? I always use backing on bass reels to help me save monies on line.
  12. The K is a solid reel but I don't think it will ever reach the legend status of the E series.
  13. Yeah something was off ... they even had a hard time ringing it up yesterday
  14. When I called they let me know they had them in stock. I went in person to purchase. Had to go to two stores and I may go back for an SLX MGL. Thanks to the lack of advertising there's a surprising amount of inventory.
  15. Probably trying to drive foot traffic to stores? I have no clue ... all I know is I'll be picking up a Curado and Spheros in a bit here.
  16. Theyve pulled them from website. Call to check for stock. I just did and can confirm 20% off Shimano and Daiwa and stock not showing on website.
  17. I cant see the soaking in water thing help in any way other than adding memory to the line. I would avoid it and if you insist on doing it, make sure you have a way to keep the line tight to the spool while submerged.
  18. Good write up. Are you still using reserves of old quantum hot stuff?? I would think you would want to stay away from that if for no other reason than the staining.
  19. I read the toothpaste thing in the In Fisherman book Bass except they told you to use a drill. Can confirm it made for a way smoother reel. I wouldn't use a drill on a new reel but what you're describing sounds like a good option.
  20. Scoop out what you cant and then soak in your choice of degreaser and scrub with a toothbrush. Simple green works good for me but you could probably even use dish soap.
  21. I learned on closed face and used it for everything from trout to redfish and bait to lures. I feel that casting distance may have been a slight hinderance but I will say that a properly spooled closed faced reel on a quality rod can get the job done. Closed face is easier to use, open gets better casting distance, allows you a wider selection of reels, allows the use of braided line.
