  1. You seem to be doing good with 6lb test though!
  2. ^ once you get a good quality moderate-fast rod it can almost be used for anything. I have an old All-Star rod which is a MH/MF which I used for jig fishing and it was a great rod. I now use it for deep cranks and am equally pleased with it.
  3. Daiwa knobs have shims you have to play with when you replace the bushings with bearings. In my experience if you leave the shims the way they were with bushings you will lose spin. I don't remember 100% but I believe I typically leave the inside shim and remove the one closest to the screw's head.
  4. How much cover is there? The lighter the better and if its open water you can probably get away with 4lb test on a spinning reel. Fish weight does not determine line weight ...
  5. I guarantee I'm getting a response to this and I'm fairly certain from who ? But the Lew's LFS was so hyped up that it was a massive disappointment. Coming from an old graphite-framed Pinnacle reel I thought that I would feel the difference ... well I did but not in a good way. The casting of the frame was rough in some areas, thumb bar just felt like it was going to fall off, and overall it just felt cheap.
  6. The line is also beginning to blur with companies like Daiwa sending mid-tier reel production such as the Ballistic over to China
  7. What makes it bad for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs?
  8. Im a big fan of the "I" series. I know they don't get much love due to their whining but I actually like them better than the K. Just make sure you keep the brake drum well oiled and enjoy that reel.
  9. I had never directly searched the Amazon Warehouse. I usually just throw stuff in my cart and regularly check those items for "Like New" used versions. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Gonna go out on a limb and say its a red/white where's waldo themed bobber jk nice find ... they look new
  11. Its preferable to tie directly to the lure unless you're using a lure that originally came with a split ring. Practice tying knots and find one that is simple enough for you to tie. For me, that was the improved clinch knot which was all I used for a couple of years. As far as pre-rigging trailers/soft plastics, I avoid it. All it takes is one bad experience with Zman elaztech or strike king 3x to make you reconsider.
  12. Just put a couple of baseball cards in the holes on the spool of a regular reel.
  13. If you have the XT already you likely will be disappointed by the regular SLX
  14. ≤ 6lb test = Spinning ≥ 8lb test = Casting
  15. At over $400 is the chrome still chrome-plated plastic?
  16. Yeah my eyes let me to believe it was the same size throughout ... now i know its a Nasal Speculum
  17. I think you got it the angle got me. It originally looked like a straight through pass on the hole ... ? ... time to see the eye dr
  18. How are you ever going to get the rings on the worm like that? Sure it has o-rings, but thats a catfish skinner
  19. Skin them catfish
  20. I don't know if I agree with the "A good fisherman will keep the rod tip no higher than 45 degrees" statement. I would imagine the line angle has to be factored in somehow. In the picture above, the line is right below the rod tip (as if boating a fish) which makes the warnings make sense. But I have to believe that with an average cast the effective angles would change as well.
  21. The Ethos HDs can be had for that price when they are on sale and they are great rods.
  22. Yeah I'm looking for a spinning reel currently. The only Lews spinner Ive used is the small Wally Marshall crappie reel and I honestly have to say it was terrible. Makes me think twice before looking at another Lews spinning reel.
  23. You always remember your first time
  24. What's the reel you're working on, by the way?
  25. Depends on how dirty everything is but at minimum I would degrease the gears and any open bearings (although you may not have any).
