  1. Yeah i ran the yamalube in the bearings ... that lasted about a week. That stuff is too thick even for baitcasters imo
  2. When did we switch to spinning only? does the OP have something I missed?
  3. How are you looking for the parts? I ordered parts for a Citica I not long ago. Just had to search by exact part number. Find a schematic and search by part number on the Shimano website.
  4. ^ this is what turned me off from using it last time ... admittedly user error. Anyhow this thread just convinced me to give the gear oil another go. Ive currently been doing TSI321 in all bearings except pinion support and its help up well. To those of you using gear oil. Are you dipping the bearing or adding drops of gear oil?

  6. Seems like a lot of work/mess ... Alan Tani seals bearing greasers as well. Although I've never been compelled to buy one for bass fishing ...
  7. I usually recommend the lightning rod medium/moderate but you mentioned wanting throw lipless on it as well. As a "do it all" cheap crankbait rod, I'd recommend the Lew's Carbon Fire MH/Mod. $60 @ DSG. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/lews-carbon-fire-speed-stick-casting-rod-19lewu7crbnfrspdsrod/19lewu7crbnfrspdsrod
  8. Squarebills and lipless cranks. As posted above, the bass will likely be eating bluegill this time of year and with that warmer weather they will likely be active. Once you locate the bass you can throw a jig and go for quality over quantity.
  9. Ive got mono spools that are 10 years old and have been stored inside and theyre fine. I'm sure you'll be okay. I say take it.
  10. TW the unofficial sponsor of Fishmas. You should hit em up ... this might be the start of something
  11. Ordered from TW today was given anticipated del date of 12/22. Original plan was some good TX bbq but that would ship on 01/06
  12. Sounds good!
  13. ill be sending my recipient a tracking number once it ships. Gotta look out for those porch pirates
  14. A fuego ct will last at least as long as a tatula ct ... same reel
  15. Shop around and get 2 Fuego CTs. Amazon had one a couple of days ago new for $62.
  16. The bigger problem is that the rod is rated for lures 1/8 - 1/4oz and the reel will likely have a hard time casting those weights. Its also a very light weight rating for bass lures. If you insist on that type of rod and light lures, pair with a crappie reel.
  17. When you feel gear noise, and fine vibration in retrieving: First, fix 2 ball bearings at the end of spool shaft. Then if the reel is equipped with an SF spool, check the bearing at pinion gear. It is indicated in red. It is covered by a thin metal plate. This bearing is easy to suffer water damage because of its position, and then it makes noise and fine vibration like gear noise. If it makes some noise or vibration when you put it on a pen and spin it with light thrust, please replace it with new one. This bearing should be lubricated with grease because it receives large thrust from pinion gear. https://japantackle.com/tackle_topics/Maintain_fix_reels.htm
  18. Put it on pencil and spin it GENTLY. Youll detect any issues. It should be smooth throughout its rotation.
  19. Test appears in the book "Knowing Bass". It is not tubes but soft plastic craws with the appendages completely removed. There is no context to the test though which makes that information of little use for fishing. Perhaps if we knew if the lures were being rigged weighted, dropped into a tank with no line, fished weightless, etc., we may be able to draw better conclusions. For all we know, the craw without appendages could be mimicking a dying baitfish to bass as it sinks to bottom ...
  20. If you are concerned then make sure to buy sold by amazon, shipped by amazon. This will ensure any issues are taken care of. I've also ordered off amazon and did receive a used reel once when i was buying new. It was promptly replaced by them.
  21. Replace both and make sure youve ruled out all other factors. Gears arent typically the reason a reel feels "geary" and it takes a lot of fishing to wear out gears unless youre using the reel in a manner its not intended for.
  22. You got bigger problems. I'd be willing to wager the spool that's on it didn't come with it ... I hope I'm wrong.
  23. Is the spool always more to the right regardless of how much you tighten the cast control knob?
  24. You don't realize the advantages of sensitivity with crankbait fishing until you do. In my experience, the sensitivity factor isnt so much for setting the hook on fish as much as for working through cover. With a more sensitive setup youll be able to feel weeds earlier and stop the bait, letting it rise above the weeds so you can complete a clean retrieve. Without that sensitivity, you'll be picking weeds off every cast. Same goes for rock piles or wood. You can either spend your time retrieving the lures or fishing them. Now I will admit, I am currently not using fluoro. My big change in sensitivity came from switching to a slower 5.4:1 reel. Once I burn through my remaining Yo Zuri Hybrid, I will be switching over to fluoro because sensitivity has indeed made a significant difference.
  25. People often mention the "wetness" issue in regard to the K's internals, in fact there's several videos and posts about it, but for me the feel is a bigger issue ^ From this forum
