Bearings for dummies
All bearings can be oiled. I choose to grease the pinion support bearing only. All other bearings take oil on mine.

Bearings for dummies
Both of those bearing designs will use clips which can be removed with a pin/needle. The biggest gain will be with spool bearings where removing the grease and adding only one drop of oil will make them significantly faster. While this may not result in additional casting distance (it has for me), it will make for smoother and more predictable casts.

Bearings for dummies
Theres definitely enough room for oil to enter, the reason i remove them is not for oil to enter, but to remove the grease. What typically happens if you dont remove them is the grease will collect on the non roller part of the bearing. It typically wont impact performance but when mixed with oil some of the grease may reenter the rollers on the bearing.

Bearings for dummies
Once the bearings are removed, heres the process I follow. 1. Remove the bearing shields with a pin 2. Drop the bearings in a baby food jar filled with MAF cleaner 3. Place the jar on top of the dryer on wash day 4. Add a single drop of TSI 321 oil on the bearings and spin them (add yamalube blue grease to pinion bearing) 5. Add shield You can probably get away with not removing the shields if you soak them longer. The lubricants you described should work fine. http://www.tackletour.com/articlebearings201pg2.html

Got one of these in the grab bags that mister twister used to sell and I have to say the action on this is incredible. Ill typically reach for this before a fluke.

Shimano Caenan 100 Noise
The main gear stack could also be off? I agree with BaitFinesse that this is likely related to how the gears are mating. Could be weak springs, could be gear stack, but something is keeping the gears from mating properly resulting in what BrianMDTX noticed where the spool keeps turning when the handle stops. Lets hope DVT chimes in on this one ... his is an answer you can trust

Shimano Caenan 100 Noise
He said he took it apart recently, my money is still on poorly seated pinion springs, yoke, etc.

Shimano Caenan 100 Noise
Difficult to tell but that sound is very similar to the sound a reel makes when you disengage the clutch while the handle is spinning. That does not sound like a bearing to me although I could be wrong. Check the smaller pinion gear and the ramps it rides on would be my suggestion. Someone else may be more familiar with this issue. Come to think of it, check the springs too. I believe that if those arent seated properly it will make that noise also.

Bail Closure - Manual or Automatic
Every once in a while you find actually useful on YouTube. Interesting to see that auto can actually accelerate gear wear. Besides the wear described above, I found I got more line twist with auto close.

Beetle spins
What size is the blade on the beetle spin? The vibration its giving off may be that of larger bait that the fish are eating. Try a smaller bladed beetle spin and you'll likely get more strikes.

Daiwa Tatula zero adjuster bearing
Yeah, just make sure that youre setting it level. Like I mentioned, i found the fat end of a round chopstick to work well for this or even the back of a pen.

Daiwa Tatula zero adjuster bearing
Part 49 on the diagram? The process is the same. Small flathead screwdriver. I may have posted the wrong video. One of the boca bearing videos shows it clearly.

Using a small flathead screwdriver, pry it up. (4:32 below) For reinserting I've found a chopstick is perfect

Best Bass Fishing Books
Probably the single best bass fishing book I've read is Joe Bucher's Crankbait Secrets: The First Complete Guide to Fishing With Crankbaits. It only covers crankbait fishing but it covers it in great detail. Its a good read. Another other book I feel is a must read is In Pursuit of Giant Bass. This book also focuses on one area (big bass), but does so extremely well.
