Odd way of catching bass.
A few weeks ago my son and I fished a local community lake. We started with a few different plastics and moving lures. Not a bite. One of the guys we were with had some cut up mackerel rigged up to a drop shot. He was actually going for catfish, but was able to catch several bass with this set up and just one catfish. Eventually my son and I also changed to this rig and were able to catch fish. Not ideal for us, but it was a way to get on some bass. The hardest part was hooking up. Seems like they would take the bait, but not enough to get a good hook set. We lost probably 5 or 6 fish once they jumped and threw the hook. Any of you guys ever try this from the bank?

Pros and Cons of joining a Bass club
Thanks for the input. The club master also recommended I attend a meeting to see if I think its a fit. I don't have any interest in tournaments thought so maybe I need to find something more informal. I will check out a meeting once Covid clears and let you guys know how it goes.

Pros and Cons of joining a Bass club
So, my son and I are fairly new to bass fishing. We have caught our fair share of bass, but are by no means experienced anglers. I recently found a local bass club and was thinking about joining. I understand you don't need a boat and they fish one a month and have meetings a few times a month. Just curious if bass clubs are the right avenue to learn and get onto better fishing waters or will I be over my head? Thanks

My son finally got a few.
My kid caught a couple nice ones over the weekend with the help of a member. Had luck on the wacky rig and ned rig. Jerk bait and spinner baits got some followers, but no bites.

thanks @norb. I had some time to fish today and absolutely no issues with the braid to leader knot. especially when I was cashing heavier baits. I need to try a weightless senko next to see of the know hinders casting at all. I will say when i hit the casting button to see if my gears are set correctly that the knot always get caught in the eyes and causes a small backlash. a bit annoying, but Im enjoying the rod.

Disrespectful Fishermen
that would tick me off to no end. I get angry in itself when I see a dead fish floating in the local lake. as other have stated, let law enforcement take care of these guys.

Live bait rules in california
So I see a lot of guys post about catching lmb with live bluegill. I always thought it was illegal but can you get around the law if both fish were caught on the same waters?

Fishing
Where at pud are you trying. Its a big lake so you need to fish the right spots to give yourself the best chance.

Anyone else not fish for bass very often?
I probably only bass fish once every few weeks. I would like to go a lot more, but there just aren't many good ponds/lakes available nearby and im also stuck to the shore. Even the times I go, we normally get skunked on the bass side so we go for easier panfish.

Thanks Tom. Lesson learned. I'm going to use a crappy abu garcia black max combo for the ocean going forward...

Thanks for that. I need to try it on the water first to see how annoying the guides are. Either that or I may just need to switch to straight fluro as well. Good lesson and I didn't research the guides well enough before purchasing. The alberto know is fine through the eyes except for the very last one, which is super small.

hi @Finessegenics I just received my St. Croix. Any issues with the braid knot getting caught in the small eyes? I hope this isn't a problem when actually fishing. I'm using 40# braid tied to a 15# leader. thanks

Does braid color matter?
I just ordered some Sufix 832 in neon lime 40# braid for my new reel. It looks really cool but wondering if the brightness will have any affect on my fishing. I do plan to do a fluoro leader fwiw. thanks!!

Appreciation
The guys on this site are really amazing. I've had guys offer me an old reel and some baits they don't use anymore. I'm not talking about junk either. All the stuff received is great stuff and usable for years to come. OP, seems like you really deserve that reel. Hope you enjoy it and catch some good ones with it. congrats!!

Tackle warehouse
I had to cancel my TW and reordered with BPS since they do free 2 day shipping. My TW order was going to take 2-3 weeks.

I was in the ocean in about 60 ft of water in the ocean. It would be like winning the lottery to snag that thing

thanks for the replies guys. At this point im leaning towards a curado dc and a st croix avidx. Is tacklewarehouse still the best place to grab these items?

So I lost my beloved slx dc and phoenix feather rod in the ocean today. Im still kicking myself. im thinking of getting the currado dc and currado rod. Im open to other reels/rods as well. Maybe the chronarch with another phoenix or dobyns. My budget is in the $500 area all in. Let me know what you guys think. I primarily like to throw weightless plastics with occasional jigs, crank baits, etc thrown in there. I also want something i can take calico fishing on occasion. I loved my phoenix but feel it wasnt stiff enough to handle some heavier lures. thanks for your help.

Open your eyes
My son and I finally got out to fish a bit today at a local community private lake. We probably saw about 10-15 fish all in the 2-5lb range near the bank and guess how many we caught? 0 :(. We threw spinnerbaits, jigs, senkos, swimbaits and they had no interest at all. A local guy said the fish have spawned already and aren't really biting anything right now.

New to bass fishing please help!
The best feeling bite to me is that thump thump. I've also experienced no real bit at all while dragging senkos on the floor. In these cases, I just see the line moving and proceed to set the hook. I still have not caught a fish on any type of moving bait, but can't wait to see that that feels like.
