  1. We are experiencing some pretty serious flooding in my area right now..this week alone we have had anywhere between 8-16in of rain here and north of me. The river that runs thru town was already full and has now blown its banks. It is supposed to crest tomorrow into Monday morning at a new record high..flood stage here is 20.5 ft and it is supposed to get over 37. There are several houses in town that will receive serious water damage not to mention thousands upon thousands of acres of crops....and on a minor yet crappy note my local lake which was fishing better this year than the previous 3-4 years is bordered by the river and will likely get blown out.
  2. Thanks for the response...I'm gonna pull the trigger on a couple pairs of the flatrocks.
  3. Couscous...the food so nice they named it twice.
  4. Gonna be buying a few pairs of decent sunglasses for bushwhacking and river fishing. Looking for something a little better than the $5 walmart options but because of the nature of what ill be doing don't want alot invested. Anybody have any experience with these?
  5. We will let @TnRiver46 watch it and if he can actually catch a bass on one then maybe we can say its everything you need to know!
  6. This is kinda me honestly, lots of bottles in the $45-$75 range but I keep quality budget stuff as well- ogd bonded and 114, KC9, Elijah Craig small batch as well as several others. Strangely enough I've never tried the regular Russells even though I really enjoy wild turkey products in general. I really should pick one up.
  7. I've got a buddy like this. Got overheated pretty bad a couple times now he just can't do it. I myself am pretty disciplined, I drink lots of water pretty much all the time. So fortunately I don't get dehydrated often. Also I grew up fishing all summer regardless of temps so I'm pretty tolerant of it...that said I know my limits. Had a day last summer at work where I was out in the plant sweating up a storm all day. Apparently I hadn't hydrated well enough. Came home, showered and had a 2oz pour of bourbon...instant migraine.
  8. I haven't seen it around me...but from what I've heard in reviews its a significant step up from the black
  9. Side note: have you tried the new beam 7yr black? If so what do you think of it? this might be the best sub $30 rye out there. I've got a bottle should make an old fashioned with it...I usually have it straight or 1 rock.
  10. This is what I always thought until a buddy suggested trying a better whiskey to see what I thought. I like wild turkey 101 in an old fashioned so I stepped and made one with Rare Breed. The difference was pretty crazy. I've got makers 46 cask strength...should try that. I've had one with 4 roses single barrel and its pretty dang good.
  11. For those of you that enjoy whiskey cocktails what are your favorite bottles for an old fashioned? I've got my mixture of bitters, cherries and simple syrup down but I'm always curious what whiskey everybody is reaching for.
  12. Seen this alot but never tried it. I'm sure its as delicious as it sounds. Also good call on the corn, always a good choice.
  13. I've been out of the propane game for a few years going strictly charcoal. That said when I had propane my local body shop guy just filled my tank for me. As I recall he put 16lbs in and charged me $15.
  14. Samuel L Jackson
  15. Where abouts did you live? I grew up in that area...moved to Iowa after high school
  16. Ǹice work boys! I'm on em South of you guys a few hundred miles. Fish are starting to do the deed in my local lake..males are jet black and females are about to burst. I caught 20 or so this morning...biggest was a female full of eggs and pushing 13.5in.
  17. I've got a buddy down there right now at a concrete convention for work. He just text me and said how crappy the weather is.
  18. For those of you that fish mornings what does your pre fishing breakfast consist of? For me its either bacon, hash browns and eggs, breakfast tacos or a breakfast sandwich almost always bacon or ham, egg and cheese on a burger bun or bagel. To make my wife happy ill usually throw in a piece of fruit typically a banana or avocado. Normally just a big glass of water but sometimes a black coffee.
  19. I've got a bottle of EW 1783 and think its good, reminds me of regular buffalo trace. I've had the BIB and actually like it...should pick up another bottle. I've got OGD bonded and like it fine but much prefer the 114. I wish I could find the early times around me, I've always heard how good it is. I've never had a Dickel product I've liked. I bought a bottle of the 8 yr bourbon after several recommendations... I really tried to like it but got thru less than half and just couldn't do it. Gave it to my buddy. As far as Jack goes I don't like the regular black label...the bonded is decent, the bonded rye is better IMO and the single barrel barrel proof rye is delicious.
  20. I've actually got buffalo trace, WT 101 and knob creek 9--I'm not a fan of regular Jack Daniels, although I like some of their other expressions. I'm a whiskey neat or 1 rock type of guy, also I'm not opposed to an old fashioned. The Heaven Hill quality House is more the price range I'm talking about. That said $20 in this market is still cheap...I like Jim beam and 4 roses products but have never tried the regular 4 roses or the JB black, so those are definitely good options as well.
  21. So the past few years I've gotten really into whiskey. Mostly bourbon and rye but also scotch and Irish to a lesser extent. Going thru my collection I noticed I don't have much in the way of truly cheap bourbon. It made me wonder if I'm missing out on some cheap gems. So for you bourbon guys out there, are there any cheap bourbons you honestly enjoy? Lets say $15 and under
  22. That really sucks...i love the Allman brothers band.
  23. Thanks for the response. I ordered one, in fact I just received it. Ill install it when I have some time...I'm in the middle of a big plant shutdown and will likely work 70+ hours this week.
  24. So I recently purchased a new washer and immediately noticed some water hammer when the water fill valve shuts. After doing some research its quite common with new washers because the valves are so fast acting compared to washers from even 15 years ago. We only use the cold water so I closed the valve to the hot water supply and pinched back half way on the cold side. This did help but its still hammering more than I'd like. I ended up looking into solutions and found that an easy "remedy " is a water hammer arrestor. Basically a shock absorber that screws onto the back of your washer and onto the water supply hose. My questions are...does anybody have experience with these ? Do they work as advertised? What is the life expectancy? Asking mainly in regards to the Sioux chief brand as that is what I've seen recommended most and also seems to be fairly priced and widely available.
