What's your opinion?
There's a misconception going on now days that people are too compassionate. The reality is people are weak. Strong people are compassionate because it takes strength to think of others and put there needs or feelings ahead of your own, weakness makes you focus only on how things affect you. As for the video I agree, I'm 40 and I was raised by a father who taught me to be tough, not whine like a baby when things aren't perfect and use challenges to build strength and character. People now days would probably think he's cruel, the truth is he was and is a great dad. He loved me enough to prepare me for how sh$%&# life can be. Taught me to be accountable and embrace responsibility instead of run from it.

I hear ya buddy...I've been getting my a$% kicked at my local lake. Its by no means a bass factory- but I can usually catch a few. I went out both mornings this weekend and caught a grand total of 2 bass.

One. (And do you have one?)
My local body of water is very much like you describe. It used to be very productive, not any more. To put it into perspective I used to routinely catch 15- 20 bass a trip...last year I'm not sure I broke 10 once. This year so far the best I've done is 3. I have a lake 40 ish minutes from my house that's much better, fished it once for bass this year for 2.5hrs caught 13 and missed or lost half dozen more. Why do I keep beating my head against the wall? 3 reasons: its close, I like the challenge and I get more time to fish.

Overrated whiskey...
I agree with them...miller lite is gross. In my opinion of course...sorry bud! To be fair I don't really drink beer anymore.

Overrated whiskey...
I've never tried any of their offerings but I keep hearing people say they aren't impressed. I could see that. I do like scotch on occasion.

Overrated whiskey...
I agree...at $65 a bottle its solid. Not sure if its as good as 2 bottles of buffalo trace but at that price I can see it. When guys are shelling out $150...or even two bills I don't get it. I have never experienced a whiskey worth $200 in my opinion...let alone Blantons.
-
Overrated whiskey...
Let me preface this by saying this is all opinion, its not meant to offend or rile anybody up. Have you ever had a whiskey that was super hyped up to you, then when you had it you weren't very impressed? For me the one that stands out is Blantons. My buddy Nate got me into whiskey and his dads favorite is Blantons. He would rant and rave about how great it is. Then when I finally had a glass I honestly felt like I had either been played or I just didn't get it. Now ill say its good whiskey, but its very hard to come by and because of that scarcity and hype its routinely $100-$150 a bottle. I find buffalo trace to be just about as good as blantons at 25% cost. What you got?

The big 4 0....
Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I had a super relaxing evening with my lady. Didn't really do anything, and it was everything I hoped for.

Bassmaster Elite at the Sabine River
I agree...I always like the tough grinder tournaments. More relatable to me to struggle for bites than catch a 30lb bag.

The big 4 0....
40th birthday today. Girlfriend asked if I feel 40...I said my mind feels 20 and my back feels 60 so 40 is about right. Mixed responses at work when they asked how old I was...the guys in their 50s said you lucky bas$%&+...the guys in their 20s said jeez old man. Gonna have a nice relaxing evening...eat like a hog, sip a little whiskey and watch Yellowstone.

No pics for me...got out from 730 til 10 today...caught 13 biggest 4 were in the 2.5-3lb range. The other 9 were between 1-1.5lbs. Caught a few on a swim jig but a Texas rigged big bite baby creature did the heavy lifting.

Anybody like plain old Makers Mark? Thinking of picking up a bottle ...haven't had it in 15+years don't remember anything about it.

How often do you guys fish?
In the winter I only fish a few times a month...maybe once a week if I'm on a really solid ice bite. Open water I try to get out 2-4 times a week.

i can name my SINGLE favorite bass fishing technique. (to help me shop)
Top water hands down...I'm this order 1) buzz bait 2) popper. I like catching bass any way I can but those two baits are way in front of everything else.

The Woodford is the only one I've had a full pour of...I've only had a half pour, like 1oz or less of the other 2 just to get a hold on what they are bringing. The Williams BIB surprised me, better than I anticipated. I've had 101 plenty so I know what it is, just wanted the cool turkey embossed bottle . Next bottle I'm looking at hard is Barrel Seagrass Rye...Its finished in Martinique rum, Madeira and apricot brandy casks. I'm more of a rye guy than bourbon, I dig the spice and the combo of that with the apricot sweetness combo intrigues me.

The Woodford is solid...I've been looking for the forester rye but haven't seen it around here. The Evan Williams BIB was surprisingly good for the money...not incredible whiskey by any means but for like $19 pretty darn good. The mellow corn is unique.

So I haven't been drinking much but the bait monkey has really taken a hold of me in the form of the whiskey monkey. In the past week I've bought a bottle of Woodford reserve rye, Evan Williams BIB, mellow corn and wild turkey 101. Granted all these together only ran me a little over $100...still hard to explain to the old lady why your carrying in a bottle of whiskey every other day! Just building my collection.

Other species while bass fishing.
In a given year while targeting largemouth I often tangle with catfish, crappie, drum, bluegill, green sunfish, white bass, walleye and pike.
