Potential Onboard Charger Problem
You can get a Minn-Kota on board 2 bank 10 amp for $299 at TW. There are cheaper ones but I just with MK because I know there good. There maybe cheaper ones put there. What kind of boat bass/kayak/small fishing? I only ask in case your planning on upgrading to a larger trolling motor. Just saw a MK charger 2 bank for $156 Hope this helps

Potential Onboard Charger Problem
First welcome to the forum. If I get this right, Your primary battery charges with a external charger but not with your on board charger. If that's right then there's a problem with your on board charger. I would remove your battery and set it up on a charger and see if takes a full charge. That way you'll know your problem is with the boat charger. Make sure to check all your connection on your batteries. Also make sure you don't have anything running on your system. If you have battery switches turn them off so you won't get any drain.

Another new boat advice thread....
I went with the TM first because it's a simple plug and play, not a big learning curve. As for the FF, you can play with it you have for a year or so and learn how to read and use it. Then if you want to upgrade you'll have a working knowledge of what you want. AJ hit the nail right on the head on his previous post. Best of luck on your upcoming purchase. Keep us posted..

I would definitely upgrade the TM. to a version with spot lock and that will interface with your Helix.

Another new boat advice thread....
A lot depends on what TM or FF comes with your purchase. If there basic units I would start with upgrading the TM to one with spot lock and at least 24v. Then once your used to reading your electronics and $ allows then upgrade and match your FF up with your TM.
