  1. Bluebasser was reading my mind. I use broken back Rapala's of the suspending type, but the biggest I ever caught was on a Hot-n-tot.
  2. I have never applied sealer. In fact I just bought some old fiberglass fly rods with cork handles and did the same thing I've always done, and that is get a clean rag wet with rubbing alcohol and wipe them down. Look like new again. I'm not going to sand cork unless I need to fill a hole and level it. And being a tight wad, I'm not wasting a Magic eraser either, lol.
  3. I would have no qualms about drilling holes topside. But the previous owner of my BassHunter drilled holes in the back of the boat for the transducer and I have to be super careful not to bump it. I knocked it loose once and had to go to several different stores for the parts for the repair. Luckily I tore it loose on land. I have seen reference to some kind of 2 part plastic epoxy that I will use if I have to repair it again. I will probably attach a plastic mounting plate over the holes.
  4. I have an old Shimano back pack with a zippered on accessory insulated lunch box I use for everything (except float boating).
  5. I have probably 10 different confidence baits stock piled. I've been periodically checking the bay for 20 years and pick up the odd replacement as I find them. I don't buy the ones that have 'rare' in the title because I'm not collecting, I'm fishing. I just zoom on by. Another one will pop up trust me. Same with the reels I use. I recently got a 'new in box' baitcaster I've been looking for for a long time to match my existing pair. I like to have several of the same for follow up casts on a missed bait. I have good luck tossing soft plastic after a miss, and having the same type reel in my hand means no fumbling with the controls.
  6. Summertime night fishing with a 10" black / blue flake power worm ranks right up there with some of my all time fun in the delta. Just lightly flipping it in to every shadowed area in the tules can get some instant hammered baits.
  7. What he said, lol. I use a non-terry towel though so stuff doesn't get tangled.
  8. No advice. With the expanding population the percentage of yahoos goes up too.
  9. I rig big 7-12" swimbaits on lead heads for salt water fishing, so doing a little grub is a breeze. Maybe have someone watch you and give some advice would help you out. That crooked rig won't catch nothing.
  10. I just had a guide replaced by a local guy. He kept it a few days then called and said come pick it up. $15. I gave him $20 anyway just because that's just plain cheap. I would have had to spend $50 to get the right stuff.
  11. Be sure to post their reply. I know there's lots of colors, but I use two. The clear as stated and the frog color. The Torpedo is a go to in quiet still water. I use the small one inch version in that case. Good luck on your collection, you should be able to get quite a variety.
  12. I've driven Ford vans for my business since 1989. Have never had a major repair. Oil changes, trans service and tires. They just go and go. I will say Ford vans (2006) have door cable issues. One day they just stop working. (I fixed it). And my passenger side door lock is kinda weird, only locks occasionally when you press the key fob. I always have to visually check that it actually went down. I had a 1996 Silverado that was a nice truck, but I always felt I was accelerating slower than everyone else unless I floored it. Now my boat towing ride is a Toyota Sequoia.
  13. This is exactly my experience except for the white grub. I go chartruese, with copper flake. I have never caught anything on white. Really, I mean never. I know it works for others. Just like a Rat-l-trap. I bought twenty different colors and sizes. Fished them all over the Delta rip rap as recommended by a guide. Zilch, nada, never! Sold them all in a few lots, cheap.
  14. HaHa, luck of the Irish, Mr. Delaney.
  15. Well I think catching stripers in the delta in dense fog with minnows is one of the most fun days I ever had. But I have boxes and boxes of artificial lures I love to trick a bass with. I'm officially retired after next Wednesday, I'm going to do like Dink and go float somewhere next Thursday!
  16. I learned fast and forgot fast when I started out. Then I started to make notes on a wire bound pad every time I went. I wrote down which boat I was using (Basshunter, float tube, etc), lures tried, time of day, moon info, water temp, if there was current moving, how many I caught and even how many other fishers were there at the same time. I still have note books from 1995 on the areas I fished most. Reading thru them before I go triggers memories of success I had, so if current conditions are close to the same listed, I'll go fishing expecting some luck. The info is especially helpful since I can never remember what time of year I was at any particular spot.
  17. All the above, but especially the smoking. I have had to tell people to not throw another butt in the Pacific while on my boat. Really get steamed at smokers tossing butts.
  18. I'm literally days away from my retirement. All I can see is the end of the highway coming some day, so I'm going to stop and fish all those creeks by the side of that road. I'll be fishing the heck out of my old stuff, and using the extra money for gas to get out there and say hi to big momma bass. And sniff that salt air when I hit the big blue. If you haven't done that you are missing out. Turn down the temptation to buy that reel and spend the money on the experience.
  19. I watched one game and kind of went, 'What the heck, fake crowd noise'? The same reason I don't watch TV comedy. Hilarious laughter and nothing really funny happened. I'm taking a pass on all sports until the only Corona I hear about is beer.
  20. I think I fished with the guy once. Isn't it Iovino though? I can't help on the rod choice since I just fish all my old gear.
  21. Great discussion. I use both spinning and baitcasters. I have used my baitcasting stuff forever for some pretty light lures. I have always used 6lb Maxima on them. If I need to go to smaller lures because of a slow bite, I pick up my spinning rods with 4lb test. I'm boat fishing so if I hook a bass I have to immediately nudge his head in the right direction, toward deeper water to play him in. I am on the edge of my seat saying ' Come on baby' but I'm having big fun. But most of the time I just set the hook and reel the fish in when using the six. Maybe I'm just happily ignorant. 6lb Maxima might test out higher but I never seem to break it off in the areas I fish. I do remember having my rod almost jerked out of my hand night fishing once. I still don't know why but my line snapped instantly. Maybe I bumped the drag playing a smaller fish previously and didn't return it to my regular setting. If you give me one of those reels with the super light spools I'll take it, but they are too expensive to try now. But I did recently use my limited funds to buy another big spool of Maxima. My whole rambling post here is just my way of saying both styles are just tools, I don't care what anybody else uses, and it's supposed to be fun for us non-tourney guys and gals. I take two BC reels and two spinning reels when I go.
  22. Short in sending unit wire maybe. Disconnect it at sender and see if it goes to empty.
  23. Every mini boaters dream is areas the big boats can't zoom by. I had a perfect 1/4 mile open area full of bass back in the day. I'm not sure what happened but there are no fish in there now. Chemical spraying of hyacinth, shoreline cover removal, and the bucket brigade most likely. Hope you find a few spots.

I replaced my wood shingle roof with asphalt shingle years ago. So I had to put down plywood. I bought two cordless kits and swapped batteries all day. When a battery got weak my wife would throw up another. I saved close to $6K from the quote I got, and I replaced all fascia boards, too. I still have the saws and drills from the kit. I abuse the heck out of them and use them for everything that I work on. The rubber grip areas are shredding but these tools have earned their old age. I'm sure if I was a production guy, well I'd be fired.
