  1. I used the same size drag disc as a Penn Squidder in a lot of my Stradics. I used the thinner version, used in the 5 stack drag upgrade. In really small reels upgrading from felt isn't really necessary. The felt can be cleaned and re-oiled and work fine. After all it only needs to put out a small amount of drag for the 6lb test I use most of the time. Dawn at SmoothDrags is the queen of quick if you do order from her.
  2. I've used Norman Speed Clips forever. Getting harder to use with arthritic hands and blurry eyes. I never thought about removing the split rings.
  3. You don't say how old you are but when I pull or tear one of my antique body parts it takes forever to heal. I sprained an ankle Sept. 5th this year and it hurt like heck last night because I was on a ladder all day painting. That's almost 4 months ago I injured it. I can press on the tendons and they feel like I'm pressing a bruise. Avoid surgery and do the PT, it's the only logical choice.
  4. Woot! Makes me want to get out there. Congrats, good pic too.
  5. I have used both but seem to get bit on the ball heads more. Strange to me because the darter heads seem to be smoother tracking. Maybe the ball head induces some kind of subtle wobble? I use the 1/8 oz. Owner jigs
  6. I'm here all week! After further review, and checking out Ahi Assault jigs, me thinks you could probably tell me more about real fishing. Those would work for rockfish but I suspect you are going for tuna, eh?
  7. Hey MY85, try the 5mil vinyl gloves from Harbor Freight under the fingerless gloves.
  8. Just dropped back in here by accident. Thanks for posting up the NRS gloves Tex. May try those too.
  9. Where you fishing Cyclops Jigf?
  10. I bet the dog wanted to share the kayak though! Thanks Mr. Abram for your service. Many friends went to Nam without me, some didn't come back. The draft went away before I did.
  11. I totally agree with Karma finding you, and people that poach are the lowest of the low. And I agree this country seems inundated with a general lack of respect for the environs. But my point was who hasn't done something wrong in their life. Roll a bit thru the stop sign, go a bit fast, make a you turn where you shouldn't, etc. I came to this site and was really impressed with the helpful suggestions and downright fun people seemed to be having. And then I found the group that likes to drop stuff in every ones bowl of cornflakes while patting themselves on top of the head. They kind of ruin it for the ones that just enjoy fishing and boating and buying cool toys. None of which has a darn thing to do with the OP's question about a cheap way of getting his butt on the water. I apologize for my part in the off topic veer, and my lack of a useful suggestion.
  12. I don't, but I have a bunch of the Bantam Mags, so I'll follow this thread. I wonder if the older Shimano Calcutta handles fit?
  13. Pretty much fished them as you describe except my line was never totally slack. Free spool with my thumb slowing them a bit so I could feel any hits. But that was in salt. I'm usually rockfishing so I bump the rocks to get noticed, then pop and reel as you say. Freshwater I have tried all kinds of the same type and never had luck. Not sure why not.
  14. By coincidence, I launched at Mossdale for the first and only time this year (or ever). I caught four pretty nice bass which was nice as it was my birthday.
  15. "Here, hold my beer". ***Just kidding for the more serious types. I don't drink. Thought I better point that out before the editorials start.
  16. Well, I'm going to have to find a team to pull for in the playoffs since the Niners win only when it doesn't count anymore.
  17. Geez some of you guys need to get a life. Angels and sheriffs uploading the law to the letter. He fished an unregistered boat and didn't get caught. Hang 'em from the highest tree lol. I belong to a lot of sites and this one has some real hero's that make their mamas proud. Dogpile in 3..2...1...
  18. Check and believe continuity only and you won't go wrong. Potential 12v is what you are reading. Let me give you an example: One fixture doesn't work in your landscape lighting. You go to the wiring at that fixture and it reads 12volts on your meter, but doesn't light. You find out after some digging that the gardener nicked the wire when he was planting a rose bush the other day for your wife. The current is now going to ground (literally in this example) and doesn't have enough left to power a bulb. But your meter still reads the potential 12volts. Hope that makes sense. The dead short (to ground, black wire) is absorbing the current and caused the heat. Separate and test each run/wire. Tedious but needed. Don't reuse any marginal wiring. Be safe.
  19. I always wrap the 2x4 rails enough to go almost all the way around. I leave a space on the bottom so the carpet drains fully, and slows wood rot way down.
  20. Last time I went to Clifton Court it was a parking lot from one end to the other. I turned around and left.
  21. I made my first cast at 6 something in the morning toward a splash I heard right after pulling away from the dock in my BassHunter. Hooked up an 18" schoolie striper. Followed three schools around the shallow end of the lake until 12:30 when my arms got too tired to pull anymore in. The last chunky keeper I gave to an old timer sitting anchored, baitfishing. I fished around and around him all day. He never moved. I was throwing Spro hair jigs.
  22. I had no idea markers existed here but one showed up saying I was in SF, and had an address of a fight club. I think I erased it.
  23. Nice. I can smell the fish hanging off that last one. Next year at the lake for stripers......
  24. We went travelling in my wife's car a couple of years ago. The car had to struggle to keep up to speed on the grades. I thought the tranny was slipping. When we got back a few days later the check engine light came on. Code reader said one cylinder not firing. Hmmm. Turns out the mechanic shop we paid to do a tune up 3 months earlier had skipped changing the rear bank of plugs because it was a bit of a pain. The plugs had no anode left, completely gone. Didn't bust him, just stopped going to him. Trained my son to do lot's of things over the years. But now he makes more than me and pays for everything to get done. My daughter worked with me over the years and knows how to do proper wire connections. I gave them a start, but my work is done, lol.
