  1. Well, without it you have an aluminum anchor. I had the same in my Gregor and I too wondered if it would float the boat in a capsize situation.
  2. I can relate. I had my wife and two kids (when they were small) in my 12' Gregor aluminum once when the wind just came up howling. I was freaking out but trying to seem unworried so as not to scare my wife. I was never so glad to get back to the launch ramp. The wind waves and spray with the howling wind noise was totally unnerving. I was on a 12' ladder painting my eaves today and a couple of the gusts spooked me.
  3. I did catch a large mama on it. I'll say it was a conservative 20+lbs, but likely much bigger. That would be an average fish on the east coast but I was happy with it. Turned her loose after an exciting little tug of war. I thank you kindly for the condolences but I was one of hundreds of friends he had. Truly an awesome gift to say he was my bud for a while. A day on the delta with him was an all day social event as we stopped to chat with his many friends. I felt pretty special to be in his boat. I still choke up when I think of the guy.
  4. My only use was as a trailer on a 1oz bullet jig, trolling for delta stripers. I also added a skirt. My buddy knew all the areas holding fish every year. Adding that bait, made with a regular brush hog, to his arsenal got me a bunch of return rides. We never got skunked. Unfortunately it only lasted one season. He took ill and passed before we could get out the next season. I have never been back out.
  5. I'm missing your point.
  6. I use Maxima Chameleon for fresh and Big game for salt. 30+ years like red.
  7. I've been tearing my baitcasters and conventionals down for at least 25 years (probably longer). I tore down my first spinning reel about a month ago. I still don't know how it works, lol.
  8. She looks dead in the livewell, are you having her mounted?
  9. I second FryDog62's curly tail grub. I have my favorite on a 1/8 ounce owner ball head jig.
  10. Whoa, I almost fell in to making a statement to the politics of gun carry in California. Glenn gave me a permanent ding on my record for that once already. (Wasn't a gun comment). Regardless, I'm moving to Oregon and can play with some new pistols soon. I can't believe what a few hours drive will do for you. I won't need a background check to buy shotgun shells, lol.
  11. Yeah I second the bird man. I have a 3/16th's spinnerbait I add bulk to with a twin tail grub. It's my all time favorite bait for smallies. I can slow roll it or burn it or just reel and jerk it. Ha makes me want to go thinking about it.
  12. Welcome, welcome, welcome eh?
  13. Thanks Senile for reminding me to go get a pair of Maui Jim readers replaced. I buy them thru my wife's insurance. Her and her insurance will be moving on soon...
  14. I'm no help here as I have an old folding Craftsman portable table saw. It has been a workhorse, but has a guide fence that takes a lot of fussing to make sure of a square cut. It drove me insane when I was building new mahogany parts for my old Whaler. You could go Festool and just not buy groceries for a couple of month's.
  15. Walleye? I haven't heard that previously. I have always wanted to taste one, lol.
  16. Really important in cold water especially. I jumped in to cold water once and was instantly fighting to get to solid ground. I'm never without mine, even launching or walking the dock.
  17. I'm still trying to figure why the regular mail carrier can't get our mail in the box until 5:00-5:30pm but the substitute guy has everything here by 10:30 am? I bought some things from Macy's for my new house and they arrived a day and a half later UPS. FedEx tracking is the one that makes me nervous. Item's don't seem to move on the tracking, then they just show up.
  18. I'm the technophobe described above. I used to be able to watch my Warriors play almost every game. Then my wife changed plans and I can only watch game highlights on YouTube. We also got the fiber optic upgrade, (upgrade my arse), and have slow loading issues. I have to constantly reboot to get to speed. And it's still too expensive. Remember when TV was free? Well, then you are just an old dinosaur and should just burn your money, or pay, without questioning the multinational conglomerates. They need money too.
  19. Wow, that's good info guys. Thanks. I can't wait to check it out.
  20. Wow, that's a bit bigger than my personal best. Is that a lake or river?
  21. An added benefit, You can tell the chicks you pilot an F10.
  22. Any kind of gal is my type, I'm old.
  23. I'm going to go fishing around gators when I turn 106.
  24. Thanks, Sphinx. I have no problem just minding my own business. I have been doing a bit of reading in advance. The license prices don't favor newcomers that's for sure. You have to live there 5 years before you get the old folks discount. I know there is a crappie lake about 40 minutes from my brother's place. Another favorite on superlite set ups. My younger brother has only fished a few times in his life so I get to share some new adventures. I'm shopping for a new place to live and hope to find a place with a indoor boat storage. I have an old Boston Whaler I'm slowly restoring and want to keep it covered.
  25. Jump. The drags are the cheapest parts on it. Good luck.
