  1. Good to know! those are the pieces I would have guessed where most prone to breaking Stradics are nice, I used my friends but I don't have any because they are expensive. I usually aim for a affordable reel that has some type of alloy or aluminum body in Spinning and casting as I am prone to dropping. You give me a 300 dollar graphite reel and it will be nice and light but may make it a 3rd lighter after dropping ????
  2. The peacocks are going to kill me eventually...... (and I don't mean the fish)
  3. So I was just thinking and which one would last longer after extensive use. If you where comparing two reels from the same manufacturer in the same price point which would last longer. Casting reels have a push button and worm gear which can be vulnerable, but spinning reels have the bail components which also give out. I am not quite sure personally and would say both have weaknesses, but if I missed anything let me know!
  4. I'd guess 4lbs. About the same as my pb!
  5. At my favorite lake they are trying to drain it bone dry because it costs too much money to pump in. They tried doing it illegally and an environmental agency and dfg got on them from a inside person. Said sense it's an established ecosystem they can't remove it. I hope they don't remove it but to be honest I'm sure they will eventually win through some loophole. It has dropped over 60% already. Some 8+ pounders in there: ( what a bummer and shame...
  6. Thanks for the update, will try out a shadow rap and perhaps even a original for more wakebait/low under water presentations
  7. Fascinating, some of the oldest techniques are hard to beat and me being in the new generation of fisherman, I have found a love for these older techniques! Thanks for sharing the different methods of retrieve and will try these out. Maybe I'll head up to Casitas some time again but haven't had much time as of late, thanks again for the ideas Awesome will try these retrieves, yeah I thought it would be a good alternative to bass that are gorging on baitfish in early morning summer patterns but won't quite commit to a spook or popper.
  8. Okay good to know, any specific plastic floating preferences? I was looking at the rapala stealth but what do you use? Will try thanks! Interesting will try this method thanks!
  9. Now imagine your on a sandy shoreline with a tree not in sight, and you roll cast to your left and you catch the only old dead branch from a tree that lord knows where came from.... thank goodness I use coply and carry a spare spool...
  10. Yeah it's not an opinion that bass can or cannot taste, it's a fact. Scientists discovered in studies that bass can taste, but they are not quite sure what it is used for. Personally my best friend caught a bass on a piece of chicken liver catfishing that was sitting on the bottom for 2+ hours, if that doesn't tell you scents work, I don't know what would. Really I learned more about bass from books not fishing related but from a freshwater fish biology book with a detailed section of black bass, their behaviors, and what makes them different from others
  11. Found a few floating jerkbaits in my dad's old box and he doesn't use em much. I thought they could be good over grass not yet at the surface with 1-5ft of space between the surface and the grass. Anyone throw em? Balsa vs plastic? Fish em fast? Slow twitches like a topwater? Both? Let me know how you like to throw em!
  12. Didn't know that, will try this!
  13. Interesting, so have you noticed a significant higher strike rate with anise oil? Just curious because alot of guys are mentioning anise oil Interesting, definitely would be able to make a small batch before fishing, will give a shot!
  14. Interesting, good to know not to waste time with coffee grounds and make a big mess and get the others in the household fired up ?? Okay I think anis oil is the way to go after all the comments, will try this! Thanks!
  15. yup there is small patches of riprap, not much but is def worth a shot
  16. 7 foot medium action spinning rod combo with 8lb mono. can throw topwaters, finesse stuff, light trigs, small swimbaits, finesse jigs, really anything that isnt overkill
  17. okay I appreciate this, will try some of this, will also add garlic. That is one thing I do like about scents as well is they kinda lubricate your lure and let it slide through stuff to a certain extent. thankyou so much for this recipe, have been looking but no results! thankyou mike so much, will give this a try, thanks!!!!!
  18. I will for sure have to try a senko and finesse jig, those are comments Ive gotten alot of and could be very powerful to try, thanks for these ideas!
  19. recipes? I was looking into sitting my baits in some form of scent. I thought coffee grounds could work, or even a wet garlic powder/garlic salt mix. What do you guys use? What have you found to work well?
  20. Frogs for top, anything trigger below, even jigs are doable. Just change the weight for the thickness of the grass. Weightless flukes in less grassy areas, and add a little weight if you need to get into the grass. Also you can throw cranks on the grassline or a transition from grass to sand or something. Finally a swimjig or seedless swimbait is another option, match weights accordingly
  21. Is mildoil a bad thing, I don't know much about biology but I thought grass creates oxygen and oxygen is good for bass which raises ph level Yada Yada. Maybe I'm wrong but all my lakes have it and one that has it produced the world record bass (Dixon lake)
  22. ??? If only I could go to Japan. If you want to make a few quick bucks buy some shimano bfs reels and resell them brand new in the states, jdm reels especially bfs are hard to get. Also Japan has a ton of really good finesse rigs you would have never thought of here in the states.
  23. Oh lol yeah, will try these methods, thanks!
  24. Never thought of dropshotting a swimbait, hmmmmm maybe you could even swim it slowly on bottom?
  25. Your ideas aren't To be honest while these aren't bad ideas, they didn't really help me catch fish. The biggest thing that helped me catch fish is theory. Learning where bass go certain times of year and how their behaviors influence feeding activity. Honestly I could buy a 20 walmart combo with mono and feel confident just because of theory alone
