Topwater has been on the very slow side for the past two years up my way as well. I could usually get 8-10 fish right before dark on the buzzbait, now I'm lucky to get one or two. Real lucky!! Even the smallies on overcast days floating down the rivers would kill the small buzzbaits. I can throw a buzz now and maybe get 4-5 to take it all day, versus 50-75 a couple years ago. Still catching them, it's just on tubes and soft plastic jerkbaits. What is the deal around the "Virginias" area? Have they become accustomed to the topwater baits or is it a El' Nino type thing going on? I would like some imput as well on this subject, I miss the blowups.
  2. No doubt, love the cork design.
  3. I may have to pass on this one AJ, it's awful ugly.
  4. I modify or as Brian put it "Frankenstein" a lot of my baits. Just last night I switched hooks on one of my cranks with a Shad Rap I found floating in the lake Saturday night. Looks funny now with those larger hooks but they sure are sharp. I also file the bills on some of my cranks and jerkbaits with a Dremel tool. You get some wicked erratic actions this way. All of the Devil Horses I own have the stock props removed. I put larger aluminum props on them like those found on peacock bass lures. Lots of water disturbance!! Huge strikes!!
  5. Been a while since I've seen you around. Nice dark fish. Welcome back!!
  6. Great job man!! I'm jealous. As hard as I fish here in WV, I know in my heart of hearts that I will never catch a bass that big. That is my pain. I can always hope... :-/ He's gunning for you Bizz.
  7. Sorry for your loss Ronnie. Your right, it does help to talk about it. Keep on keeping on my friend.
  8. I laughed at it. Man that thing is ugly. ;D
  9. It never ends... :-[
  10. Try a large Brush Hog rigged weightless and skin-hooked. Buzz it across the top and prepare to have your shoulder dislocated. I watched AJ do this and it pulls some massive strikes. If they miss it, pause the bait and let it fall through the slop, then hold on.
  11. I used a few of the craws that Burley give me last night as a jig trailer on a 5/16 oz. Eakins. Pretty impressive action in the water. I quit worrying about cost, it never does any good to worry. Dick's did have a bunch on clearance a couple weeks ago. Check it out, there may still be some left.
  12. Awesome day, I wish I would have been there. Maybe a few of us can get together when I come down for a visit. How did y'all find a scale to weigh those beasts?
  13. Look Teenie Bopper, we don't type in abbreviations on this board. Please don't butcher the English Language. As far as the smarter bit, why don't you show it and type in complete sentences. The State of Rhode Island or any of it's inhabitants has nothing to do with this discussion. Tin is a well respected member of this board who was pulling your chain. Please refrain from the insults or I will be forced to release the hounds on you. Believe me, you don't want the hounds released!!
  14. I crawled under my boat today and peeled some of the carpet back on my bunk boards. I was curious as to when I should be replacing them. Well, needless to say they need replaced in a bad way. The wood has turned black and is very brittle to the point you can stick your finger through in some places. I honestly don't know what's holding the boat up off the trailer. You guys using treated lumber for replacement or what? I even thought about some of that new plastic lumber, wouldn't have to worry about rotting then. What do you think? :-/
  15. That was the intention... So many possibilities...must resist
  16. CJ, your boy looks just like you. Tell him all the hillbillies said way to go!!
  17. Congratulations Flechero!!
  18. Been fun watching your quality of fish improve over the past year. Atta boy!!
  19. Nice fatties in those pics. Been wondering if you got lost. The antique photo has a cool effect. Gotta try that.
  20. Not sure about the girth, but that looks like a 2.8 - 3.2 lb. fish to me if that helps.
  21. Thanks Catt, good read. Saving it to my favorites right now.
  22. Unreal dedication for sure.
  23. Crazy stuff dude, a new swimbaiter is born.
