  1. That’s exactly how I am. I can pore over specs on rods and never tire of it. It’s just something about rods.
  2. Not that I slap any ol’ reel on and call it a day. But I seem much more amped when looking for a new rod than I do for reels. Both are important. Both are required (unless you’re canepole fishing). Yet I can look at rod specs all day and not get bored, but reels? Which do you put more effort (and enjoyment and anticipation) into? Rods? Reels? Or both equally?
  3. Gas station sushi!
  4. I knew an angler had a lure, and Senko was its name-o S-E-N-K-O S-E-N-K-O S-E-N-K-O And Senko was its name-o! Well, yeah, I use more than 5” Senkos. But if I had to pick one soft plastic under pain of death to fish exclusively over all others, that’d be the one.
  5. Thinly-sliced cold tongue sandwiches are good.
  6. I have a 6’ 6” M/XF Procyon paired with a Shimano Sienna 2500 spooled with 20 lb. Seguar Smackdown. It’s a nice rod. The Sienna is ok but I prefer the Revros. I’ve never had an issue with the weight. But everyone’s different. And my LT2500 is the XH. Like I said, nice reel for the $$.
  7. On rye with some Dijon mustard. I get mine sliced about 3/8” thick. It’s good stuff!
  8. That’s a hard combo to beat at that price. I really like my Revros reels (LT2000 & LT2500). Both my Aird-X’s are casting rods but I’m sure their spinning rods are just as good. Both of my reels are spooled with 20 lb. Sufix 832 and 6 lb. mono leaders.
  9. Liver as in liver and onions? Hard pass. Liver as in liverwurst or Braunschweiger? Hard yes!
  10. Ok, I forgot this. My wife makes shrimp spread (tiny canned shrimp, cream cheese, BBQ sauce and some other secret ingredients) with canned shrimp as an hors d'oeuvre. Good stuff!

Big bass. Pretty, too. (not recommended to say in a bar if you’ve had one too many and start slurring your words!)
  12. When my wife was pregnant with our first child 30 years ago, we had kipper snacks in the pantry on a daily basis. Ever since, when at the grocery store, I’ll ask “want some kipper snacks”? That always gets me the stink eye. ? Bumblebee solid white albacore in water is about the only canned fish we eat. Everything else is fresh-caught or frozen. Except for jumbo lump crabmeat, which is cooked but comes in refrigerated plastic containers.
  13. That’s a lotta bass!
  14. Well, hush my mouth and beat me with a shrubbery!
  15. Ask it this: “What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?" ?
  16. I drink beer 90% of the time. Various IPA’s or Guinness. I do love a good Beefeater and tonic with a big wedge of lime though. Especially in summer.
  17. Originally it was “Pittsburgh Blue”. Steelworkers would bring raw steak for lunch and slap it up against the side of the blast furnace. It would take seconds to char the outside and leave the interior rare. I don’t mind rare steak, but prefer medium-rare. Growing up in Baltimore, we used to eat raw beef sandwiches. Fresh ground round on rye with salt, pepper and raw onion. Butchers had grinders just for ground round. It was good! No. And 30 years ago I would have tried it. Not anymore! ?
  18. But will be crushed again next season!
  19. For me, the choice is easy. NY strip, at least an inch thick (1-1/2” even better). Pittsburgh medium-rare. Well-charred on the outside and juicy MR on the inside. It’s difficult to do at home unless you have a charcoal grill and can get the steak just off the hot coals. I get a good sear in a hot cast iron pan, but it’s not charred. It’s imperative to let it reach room temperature before cooking and to season it well with kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper. I really don’t get T-bones or Porterhouses. You cannot cook the strip side and the tenderloin side to the same level of doneness equally. Yeah, gimme a prime NY strip. Excellent, beefy flavor. Well-marbled but not chunks of fat like a rib-eye. A salad with honey mustard or blue cheese and a baked potato with butter, sour cream and chives (or steak fries that soak up the juice) and I’m one happy man.
  20. I feel the same. Probably the most famous angler I’ve had the pleasure of meeting was Lefty Kreh. A fellow Marylander and a helluva fly fisherman. My buddy and I read Outdoor Life and Field and Stream a lot about all types of fishing in the early to mid-70’s, but I can’t say any of them inspired me.
  21. Ozium is used in the airline industry for removing offensive odors. It works.
  22. Congrats. Hope you catch some big ‘un’s out of it.
  23. There’s been a dead raccoon on my overpass exit off I-45 north of Houston for about 4 months. There are more vultures per square mile here than I’ve ever seen in my life. Something must be really bad with that coon.
  24. Small haul. Most on clearance at Academy. Got a Boo Yah 3/8 oz buzzbait (first buzzbait I’ve owned in a long time), a 6th Sense Curve squarebill, a pack of Yum Dingers, some 3/8 oz. tungsten bullet weights and a pack of 2/0 Gamakatsu circle octopus hooks (been using 1/0 but want to try a bigger hook for wacky rigs). Looked at some rods and saw a Falcon Lowrider. Of course, it was the same exact model I already have. If it was a MF I would have snapped it up quick lol.
  25. Speaking of names, flyfisher could mean something a whole lot different on a non-fishing site!
