Smallie fshing in heavy whitewater rapids
I'm normally dead drifting a senko in heavy current. A few small twitches and long pauses letting it get to bottom in the tailout is a trial to your patience but a big smallie eventually grabs it. I also grow a half senko, weightless, on an long skhank ewg hook that has rubber legs/maribou/hair/feathers tied on. Smallies rarely attack that kind of presentation, i suppose they're just curious. The bite is almost always super light and 90% of the time I am nose hooking them.which is important because the rod is understandably light and noodly.

Fast Current Lures
I've not thrown a spinner bait in years. I should talk to the bait monkey.

How to convert with smallmouth follows into bites?
Natural colour, no flash, no sound.

Here's one for All the Carpenters.......
"Get back to work" is what I heard. The fact is if you do something long enough something mindnumbingly improbable is going to happen to you. Hopefully it's not followed by life changing results.

Cyclic spawning in rivers.
Last winter we had a genX gizzard shad run. They filled sections of the river and they were huge. It brought a record musky season.

Differences in soft plastics brands
There are only a few types of plastisol made. Each brand will have its own recipe for colours, flakes and salt and your supposed to have an original mold.

Here's one for All the Carpenters.......
Almost my story. Thankfully I've never cut anything off or crushed anything too badly. I have lost sensation in a few spots.

One warm day
So today I ran over a 1/4 mile stretch of my river that consistently provides 3 and 4 lb smallies which are a blast! Though there is one shelf that aught to be stacked up but is consistently dry for me until today. This was my spot on the spot today. It feels great to catch a bass right where he should be on a handtied jig of mine own pattern.

3 Top Ranger Execs Resign
Top 3 execs resign? Quality issues are often the result of earlier cutbacks but Johnny M. isn't likely to increase his investment. He would have done his due diligence and known he would either refresh the brand with capital or acquire their tech/skills/marketing and cut costs asap. Which option does Johnny usually take?

The pros dont know much more than we do
The pros are guessing. But they have alot more experience. Pablo Picasso didnt always paint like a spaz, he learned how!

Daiwa BG 2500
As a bank fisherman I look for a bullet proof reel. I have a 2500 BG and a 3000 BG and would recommend them against anything in their price range.

Hi new member and new to Smallie fishing... Question about line preferences and what color line
I have trouble with abrasion from rocks in my rivers so I throw #10 to #15 hi-vis braid to a #12 to #17 mono leader. Leaders are 5' and tied with an FJ knot. I used to use fluoro but I dont like how it holds knots, shatters on hook sets and knicks easier. Imperical evidence says I'm wrong but it's a trust issue now. And since im always in current the smallies get less time to shy off the line.

River guys - do you typically try to cast everywhere or do you only target specific areas; ie current breaks, structure, shade etc?
Prime only unless I'm stuck on the bank with poor access.

How did you catch your HUGE smallmouth?
That must have been a epic battle. Approx 22" smallie on a bone choppo in 3' of water. It wasnt in the water more that 3 seconds when he snatched it. I had no scale.

One warm day
Another update since I had so much fun today. Very successful day on a new stretch of river for me. Had only been over it once before in a canoe. Saw another large bald eagle, many hawks and herons. And got a job offer too! Edit - i was throwing a monstrously large spook. TOPWATER RULES

Bends/Geography in River and Terms
I am always looking for the Spot on the Spot. Yes, it's the deep pool next to a seam after a long set of rapids with foam cover and full sun during the full moon. It's the huge boulders lining a dropoff at the deepest channel that's holding the biggest smallie because this spot is the Spot on the Spot.

Work and Fishing
I went to work as a construction super at the start of the pandemic. Got into building singles and townhouses and then after sale repairs. My time was mine to manage and since I'm able to retire now if I need to I make it clear to the builder before I start. Most are happy I've given them my expectation. Admittedly, my salary suffers, but i think my profession is overpaid.

Fall bass moving back into the "creeks".....?????
I primarily fish a fair sized river system that is fed by hundreds of creeks. The resident smallies do run up the creeks during prespawn but leave after spawning. But our local ponds do have bass pushing baitfish in the fall due to turnover. It helps me find them right when they're feeding up.

What do you do best?
Popping a little black maribou jig

Least Visible Line?
I've lost faith in fluoro. I believe it's less visible to the river smallies I hunt. But due to my own fault or otherwise I simply wont throw it. My rivers are very clear and i throw 12#, 17# or 20# mono with confidence.

Trout fly rod advice
Yes he did mean a 9ft rod in a 5 weight as a jack of all trades rod. Before I make a recommendation can you tell me if you will have the space for back casts on your waters?
