  1. I want to get into BFS. can anyone suggest a completed rod and reel combo. I prefer higher end stuff but just want it to be effective. i had a bfs setup and could not get the thing to cast w/o backwashing so i gave up on it. i need reccomendations for a casting combo, rod and reel and spinning combo
  2. that is funny! true story
  3. i like this. I’m just interested in catching big ones, and bigger ones. To me that’s the game.
  4. i like this strategy. makes sense anyone have luck with Punch rigs in nasty ponds from the back?
  5. wow that’s amazing! i took up bass fishing about 2 years ago and my biggest is 3.8lb. can’t imagine double the weight Lol! sorry i was doing voice to text and never proofread it. I was reading it today and i was like I don't understand happened! sorry everyone
  6. I almost never fish the center of ponds because I don’t seem to catch anything there it’s almost always along the bank, undercover, no I just never have any welcome centerI almost never fish the center of ponds because I don’t seem to catch anything there it’s almost always along the bank, undercover, no I just never have any luck in the center
  7. anyone else see a pattern? my unscientific observation is that senkos and Trl-rigged and other versions on plastics like flukes and creature baits seems to be a top performer as is topwater of the like. Bottom performers are crank baits, chatterbaits, spinner baits swim jigs and swim baits neutral seems to be jigs and rigs like shaky head and others aside from T-rigs. agree? disagree?
  8. lipless and square bill produce in what bodies of waters?l for you Ironbjoen?
  9. first off, i love catching but inhate fishing for them. i am very impatient and in the small linda o fish, if i don’t get bites after 30min - 1hr i’m out. don’t judge me, i know who i am, i am off to another area rather than work for it with that said, help me be more effecfice how do you fish linda? first off, i never fish the middle. i almost always search for points or conmrners or pockets or pads and cover and fish them. the middle of the pond never produces anything i usually start with the basal looking parts with a bottom contact rig, then o work to top water and then try something mid water column or even a wake bait but, after that i’m gone. i may try to vary the retrieve if applicable but then i’m done i don’t ever switch colors, and info work emareas extensively. in my mind if they were hungry they would hit whatever so tell me what am in doing right and what i am doing wrong? what do you do?
  10. What is your best 3 baits/lures/presentations and what is your worst? mine are as follows Best 3 1) top water - whopper plopped followed by frog, followed by megabass popmax. in fairness to the buzz bait, i have not used it as much as ploppers. i was really excited by chasebaits bird but that thing hasn’t produced at all. 2) Senko/Creature bait - weighted or weightless, this would be my second overall performer. although i am impatient when it comes to bottom fishing, this has proven itself worthy. love the bellows gill, reaction innovations and of course senko but i prefer 6in and up. Texas rigged or weightless. Never really tried wacky rig or shaky head or any of the rest. not as much luck with flukes. 3) Wakebait/Sub-Surface - Spro Rat/shell-cracker G2, used much less but have produced amazing results for the minimal time. 4) Honorable mention - drop shot, only used it twice but caught fish. granted ponds probably not the best place. Worst 3 1) Spinner baits / Chatterbaits. caught 1 fish in 3 years but i admit don’t use it often. maybe i don’t understand when and where to use it? if i had to choose spinner bait over chatter bait, based on my limited same spinner bait wins. never caught anything on a chatter bait. 2) plastic swim baits - keitech and paddle tails - these seem useless to me and not worth the effort, if something is going to swim thru the water, mine as well have some waggle and sound like the wake baits above. don’t understand these or the huddleston and swim bait crowd. it just seems to be more energy and time spent than reward. tell me i’m wrong 3) Crankbait - no luck with these ever. granted i fish mostly ponds so maybe not the right venue but never had any luck. includes hard body jerkbaits, square bills, lipless etc. 4) jigs. i know i said only 3 but who catches fish on jigs?? i don’t, and moreover i don’t understand why o would use a jig when we have other and better bottom presentations such a texas rig or weightless bait??
  11. nahh, it’s not about weight, although that is important, it’s about length. if i am going to go 10feet thelma as long as i can hoist it above the car, or fit it into the car, i see no reason to explore something like that. i appreciate the help though
  12. i agree with you, i saw that most referred to these applications as universal but i agree with you. Punching is definitely weight sensitive via the nature of the task whereas flipping is a technique a way of casting. i definatmey am looking for a Heavy duty punch rod
  13. I think i’m leaning towards the Dobyns 766 flip and a lews super duty reel. This seems to be a highly reccomended options for this use, punching. My goal is more punching than flipping.
  14. Which Dobyns would be best for punching with 1oz to 1.5oz. 766 flip or another model?
  15. Edit - i’d would be looking to use 1oz-1.5oz punch rigs, maybe 2oz need a rod and reel dobyns champion xp? st croix legend or legend X? megabass Tequilla baccarat? Loomis NRX or GLX? i have no clue on reels.
  16. I fish nasty, weedy, matted ponds and I don’t have a flipping/punching rod. What’” would be good higher end combo? im thinking the Megabass P5 Tequilla barrac would that be a good choice? Anything serve the purpose in the GLX line up or the St Croix? if not what are some other rod and reel recommendations. Also need thoughts on the reel, i mostly have metanium or steez/zillion reels, would these work? thank you!
  17. I fish mostly ponds lots of weeds sometimes a lot of slop. I like to fish weedless rigs for that reason but sometimes the weeds and slop can be pretty thick so I would like to learn more about a punch rig. I don’t believe these are sold as a rig it’s something you have to create with a stopper on the line I believe is anybody have any more information or videos they can share via how to create some punch rigs I would like to create them maybe even with a leader if I have to just have them ready to go in the field
  18. i have. i like the idea of standing up, but not sure if it’s stable to fish and have a bag on the board, seems like if i do t fall a rod or a bag would definitely fall off. anyone fish off these with success? i was thinking a super small light rigid kayak would be the quickest route
