You say that “soft tip” is a measure of power, but later go on to say that with two rods with the same power, the faster action rod has a softer tip. So this tells me tip softness is a function of action, but how, then, is tip softness a function of power?

In other words, you feel it has this "soft tip" based on experience you have with your rod and in comparing it with other rods you have used. Am I right here? That's kind of what I was getting at with asking how you determine whether a rod has a "soft tip." It's just a feeling you get? Would I also be right in saying that generally, most rods nowadays with say a fast action come with a soft tip because it is generally more desired? Well hold on, if I am understanding you right, we are not saying the same thing. "Soft tip" as I understand it means that it takes little pressure for the tip of the rod to begin bending regardless of the rod's action. Action, then, determines how far down the rod bends under a load. Hope I'm making sense here

Is this simply something you gain an appreciation for over time, having tried several different rods and getting a feel for how each of them bend? Additionally, I hear a lot that a “soft tip” is desirable. On the flip side, I have hardly heard instances where the reverse is preferred. Are there situations where you prefer a “hard tip” per se? Enjoy your time out there. We had a window here in NY with some relatively pleasant weather. A little hole in the ice. Didn't expect to catch anything and didn't but it was a great experience as always. The area I was fishing is covered in thick grass, I believe coontail. Could not buy a bite on a texas rig or jig but that reservoir is always tough. All that to say, have fun! @Deleted account had luck fishing holes in the ice recently.

I will readily admit that some of my biggest bass last season were on senkos. The last one pictured came close to being my biggest for the year By the way... if memory serves me right, every one of these fish was on a BLACK senko

Braid to leader works fine on baitcasters. Used it for quite a while. My preference now is straight mono or straight braid. There are zero exceptions to that. Edit: To add braid and leader combination and knots that you requested... my preference would be powerpro superslick v2 braid tied with an fg knot to trilene big game. FG knot seems to never ever fail tied correctly. Often your lure connection knot will break before it does.

Times I've went hunting I enjoy it for the serenity but also a sense of closeness with the Earth and its creatures, especially with the target animals themselves. I'll try to explain more what I mean. Just watching the animals and their normal routine, seeing how they behave, looking into the eyes of one that is staring you down that is sensing something could be wrong. And then, after you kill your target animal, being so close to it and being able to touch it and that feeling of knowing that you killed the animal, you brought the food to the table triggers something very primal. You have to be okay with the idea that because of your place on Earth as a human, you are given authority over its creatures. You also have to keep a conscientiousness and morality about yourself. Just because you are given authority over the Earth's creatures doesn't mean you should kill them in cruel ways. Kind of like how we try to respect fish as fisherman. There's a sense of morality and right and wrong that you gain by hunting and fishing with conscientiousness. Yeah. That I'm lonely

I'll offer that the rod I got for spinnerbaiting must be the best darn buzzbait rod on the planet. I have an excellent hookup percentage with buzzbaits. iRod Genesis III Stone Cold Swim and Vibrating Jig Rod. I don't feel confident enough in my overall experience with rods to offer much more, but the Swim and Vibrating Jig Rod is a workhorse. I don't throw only one technique with it. Edit: Any yes, it's a great spinnerbait rod also

I believe you have already explained this but why again do you prefer the fluoro version of the hack attack jig? Have several hack attacks myself and like them for fishing in grass, punching (in 1oz), and doing my version of 'flipping'.

Seems like all personal preference to me. There are some great lure suggestions here. I would toss a texas rig, jig, or spinnerbait just cuz I like em. I'd be looking for areas I'd think are more productive. Where is the grass green and healthy? Where are defined edges of mats? Where is the access to deeper water? If it is a small pond, where might I expect to find warmer water? What does the bank surrounding the water look like in different places? These are things I would be focused on. Edit: just saw that you specified this is a large pond.

Eating? How do you eat bourbon? Is this a power you learn by drinking more bourbon?

But... turkey hunting.... ?. I've shot a couple nice birds; one is mounted. One day I might have to dig up some photos. They're bird brains! Not as smart as old deer ?

If hunting big whitetails were easier I might be hunting not bass fishing.... during hunting season anyway. Old deer get too smart for me to call it a hobby. For those that continue to pursue those big bucks, hats off to you and hope you get lucky... you're going to need it
