  1. X2 Tight Lines!
  2. Sounds like you don't have the anti-reverse dog (#5134) installed, or it is installed incorrectly. The AR dog must sandwich the return ratchet plate that is part of the crank shaft. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  3. What contact points did you polish. If I remember right the TD-X has a 2 piece spool shaft and cannot be polished. As far as bearings in the TD-X there are only 2 bearings in the spool support, that actually influence casting (palming plate bearing and spool bearing behind engagement pin). Tight Lines!
  4. Deep clean the reel every season, and, this will not happen... Tight Lines!
  5. Perfact the best explanation I have read for having a high speed (7.1:1) speed.BTW the first 7.1:1 reel was produced by Daiwa... Daiwa Procaster PM335H Tight Lines!!

    1. Lightly heat the wrap with a hair dryer. 2. Using a single edge razor slice the coating/threads just under the guide foot. 3. lightly heat again, and twist the guide (wrap/coating should peel easily) off. 4. using the same razor blade lightly scrap the old coating off. 5. using a ultra fine (foam) sanding pad (2500gr), carefully clean up the blank area and make ready for the placement/re-wrap and finish coat of the guide. Tight Wraps!
  7. All of my 6'6" -7' custom SC3 (Avid) rods in MH/F are used for T-rigs/jigs Tight Lines!
  8. I agree, New reels should be fished a complete season to break in the gears and the bearing races and shims. Even if you can see the ton of grease on the shim behind and on the backs of the bearing packs. The main problem is all the talk about looooong casting reels, many anglers cannot wait for a break-in season and go for the C&L right out of the box. Properly done by a quality service tech and you will not harm any warranty in the first season. Tight Lines All!!
  9. >>>I have an aquaintence who judges baitcasting reels by spinning the spool to see how long the spool spins. He will also spin the handle with it engaged as well. <<< You really can't judge anything except the smoothness of a reel by free spinning the crank assembly. Free spinning of the spool will give some evidance of the free spooling abilities of a reel. But not like actually casting and measuring distance improvements or failures. >>>So my question is, why do my cheap pflueger reels spin longer than my curado. And yes, the spool tension is loose. The breaks are either off, or have the same # of pins out. I was checking out some brand new curados and citcas yesterday and noticed they didn't spin long either. <<< Probably because your pflueger reel/s don't have any grease in, or around, the bearings and covering the bearing shims like brand new Curado's and Citica's do. Do a deep clean and re-lube of those Curado's and Citica's and I'll be they are freer than your pflueger'. Tight Lines!!!
  10. Contact Daiwa (800)736-4653 Part #: E61-3301 - Spool if they still have any in-stock they may run you around $50.00+shipping Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  11. You don't make mention of the reel make/model. First thing you need to do is get a copy of the reel schematic in-front of you. It is better to use hot Simple Green instead of any alcohol. I would use any degreaser that is non carcinogenic (naphtha is a carcinogen). There are safer degreasers out there like Birchwood Casey® Reel Scrubber.. Tight Lines!
  12. When I intend on flipping heavy cover only say for bedding bass, I use my trusty early 1980's Bantam Brush Buster 10 Plus... Tight Lines!

Very nice stealthy looking work for the Core, I like it alot! Tight Wraps!
  14. If your going far enough to do an R&R of the worm gear/pawl, you might just as well brake down the reel completely and deep clean it, re-lube properly and be done with it........... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  15. In my experience with neutral balancing a rod. We have done this before adding weight to the butt and actually getting the balance point at the middle (crank) of the mounted reel. Found the rod to be extremely light feeling and found the feeling of the butt section trying to over run and pass the tip section on a pitch (a lot less tip control on a neutral balanced rod). http://www.rod-crafting.com/resource/articles/rod-balancing.html Tight Lines!!!
  16. Yes it will work. Just remember to go very slow and methodical, the cork that has been removed cannot be put back on the grip. When you are done with the final sanding seal the cork on the grip with U-40 Cork Sealer. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  17. Not to mention that Acetone leaves a film behind. Like JF, DVT, stated you don't run stainless without oil ABEC5, 7's whatever. You do not spin dry bearings, you blow them out or you lay them on a towel to absorb and dry. But mostly your problem was the film left behind... Tight Lines!
  18. All of my rods are spiral wrapped, like um just fine.. Tight Lines!
  19. Have serviced quit a few over the years. They are an OK reel, the main problem I have with the reel is the graphite frame, side-plate, and rotor, lots of flex during a good fighting run. The reel is Dyna-Balanced to stop a lot of reel wobble from the (Quickfire II) trigger section spinning. There are a lot better spinning reels in the Shimano arsenal. Tight Lines!!!
  20. It is located in the FAQ, here is the FAQ URL: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/customer_service0/FAQ.html Here is the FAQ question: Why are there more than one color of break weights for my Baitcasting VBS system? Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  21. Only one problem with that type of Tenn. grip. The rod has to be balanced as the grip is installed.. Were as with a true Tenn. grip you have the ability to move the reel and the rings to achieve the balance point desired. Tight Wraps Builders!
  22. None. Most of my lost fish have been through either my stupidity or circumstances beyond my control; ie a fish wrapping around a submerged stump. I really can't remember ever losing a fish because of a drag failure. My Pflueger's drag never felt 100 % out of the box. It would have been fine, but I felt it could have been better. I saw the lapping tip on another forum and with being frozen in here, I have a lot of time to kill. I tried it last night and was impressed enough with the results to post about it. Are a majority of drag systems sufficient out of the box ? Probably so, but there's room for improvement. If you are going to spend time and money upgrading your drag, get the full potential. As I prefer light and ultra light tackle, a smooth drag is especially critical. As far as Shimanos go, I've had issues with them in the past (mostly bail and binding) that drove me away. There's Pflueger guys, Shimano guys, Abu guys, Daiwa guys. There's enough fish out there for all of us. I still have not ever had a fish pop it's head out of the water to ask me what brand I fish with. Or if your lapping your drag disk's..... 8-)
  23. Direct from Shimano! Tight Lines!!!!
  24. That and have you ever picked up a spinning rod grabbed the black reel seat that has been sitting on a deck in 105° sun.. F&%#@&% HOT! is a word I have screamed many times in past years. One of the main reasons why I went to Tenn. grips... Tight Wraps Builders! 8-)
