wife and i went back to the big culvert today in detroit lakes minn territory. Man it was a hot 80* sunny, no wind, bluebird skys and crystal clear water. Not what i wanted to see as it was supposed to be cloudy, bummer. It was 11:00 when i threw the fluke in on a ewg keel hook and first cast out 30 yards out front of the culvert in the green vegetation bam was hooked up then 2nd cast,3rd,4th all in a row caught nice 3-4 lb bass. I was so tired of reeling in the fish from the top of the culvert and then having to gingerly walk down the steep broken concrete embankment to unhook them that i was ready for a break and it had only been 25 minutes gone by. I then got cocky and put on a jig with a new first time for me to use yum craw on a orange and brown arkie jig. I pulled 1 claw off and the casted into the culvert and hooked up. Then i threw a yum craw on jig with both claws and hooked up. Then threw a jerk bait and caught sunnies and pike, no bass though. Then a square bill and caught sunnies,pike while the wife caught a few bass on square bill. I took a nice long break and sat down and relaxed as the fishing slowed down after 12:30 noon. It picked up again at 4pm and i went back to the jig and caught my biggest. Then the rock bass came out to play and we both caught them me using jig and wife using berkley white general on a tr catching both lmb and rock bass on that white general. We caught between us 35 bass, handfull of sunnies and pike and 5 rock bass. Not bad for hot sunny day in late september. Ah 1 more thing, i stripped down to my boxer shorts and fishing gloves and went swimming and diving in the culvert. Why? i will post that in the general fishing forms later.

just updated my journal from fridays fishing trip. I have gone fishing 33 times in 2021 and no i dont ice fish so all open water. All my spots are no more than 40 to 70 minutes away. I can tell you that i might lessen my trips next year if the draught continues here in minn in 2022 because i dont have a boat, just waders and banks so come mid july i may have to take a break.

Yes it is, a nice 3.5 lber caught on tr super fluke zoom. Every fish we caught was inside the culvert. That culvert has a rocky bottom with minimal weed growth. Heavy boat traffic goes through there in the summer. That culvert gets fished super hard in the spring and summer so i avoided it all year. I took a gamble and went there and with it being a bit cold and windy outside and a weekday we had the culvert to ourselves.

It was about 2.30 pm and using flukes on tr and dropshot i casted into the culvert and caught all my fish doing just that. I kept my pole high and line tight, had a 3 foot leader on the drop shot with 1 oz of weight and just slowly dragged it out. Hard part was casting far into into the culvert without banging the lure on the sides of the culvert.

bought some zoom super flukes last week and used them today on a texas rig and a dropshot and caught a nice smallmouth and a handful of bass. Wife also caught bass and pike on the super fluke. This was the first time i ever used flukes and the only color in stock was white with silver flakes but i wanted shiners color which is white and black so i took a magic marker and put some black on its sides and gave it some eyeballs and it caught me all my fish today.

i have kept a log for all of 2021. I write down the whole days experience on paper tablet the next day. Come next year I will reference it to help remind me.

back a few weeks ago i was wading in a grassy shoreline, no lilly pads anywhere and i watch as this real frog 20 yards from me is running on top of the water towards shore. It was fast and each push off the water looked like he was in the air for 3-4 feet.

That would have had me shrieking and off the toilet asap. Here is a spider that was attached to my pants leg. I didnt scream but i did kinda like a loud AAAAAHHHHHHHHH get it OFF me as everyone stood and looked at me while it was crawling on my pants leg. I was trying to shake it off but it was on me like velcro. Finally a guy came over and pulled it off. Its a huntsman spider and they get very big in the philippines.

this guy ate the protein and everything in site, then he got slaughtered and divided up to families. Dont let the photos bum you out, this is how its done in the philippines, all the kids grow up in this type of environment. The kids are looking forward to the big feast later in the day as this is new years day and all will partake in this feast of celabration of the new year. This pot he did not end up in, the pot is used to boil water and after the hog is dead the water is poured on the hog to burn the hair off.

Staying the night at my father in laws place in the philippines, the gekos are crawling around the rafters where the lights are hanging looking for bugs and mosquitoes. They are welcome in the house as the philippinoes consider them good luck and bug controllers. Right above where i sleep i watch them. Yes i am sleeping on a bamboo slatted raised floor about 2 feet off the ground, good for ventilation but hard on your body. Dont even think about sleeping on your side as its hard on the shoulders and hip bones.

i tore down my pfleuger supreme and cleaned every part using 409 spray, a rag, toothpicks to get grease out of the corners and q-tips. I only tore it down all the way because it gets dunked in the lake at least 1 time every outing as i wader fish and it started to consistantly have a spot where the worm gear and main gear was hanging up making it hard to reel. The abuse i put this reel through hauling fish out of the weeds i for sure thought it had damaged gears but all looked like brand new. After cleaning it up inside i used REM oil by putting a few drops on the sealed bearings side covers so the oil would get inside of the sealed bearings. Then i used Quantum Hot Sauce fishing reel grease for all the internal gears and moving parts. I did not slabber grease onto the sealed bearings, i kept them clean on the outside. I also didnt pack the insides with grease, just used enough to get a good thick coating on the gears and sliding parts. The cleaning solved the sticking gear problem and after eyeballing the gears showig no wear i will continue to buy pfleuger $100.00 reels. Went wading in the burnt out dissapearing pads and dying grass in a algae bloom and caught a dink and a couple pike on the frog. Determined to get a bigger fish i went back in 1 hour later and tried again with the frog and no blowups so i called it, i got out of the water, crawled up the short but steep bank onto the road and started walking the 1/4 mile to my staging point. As i was walking i just casted out the frog and was reeling and walking, not caring if i caught a fish because i was going to pack up and go home as it was 8:30pm. As i kept walking and reeling the frog got blasted, i gave it a few seconds because i didnt even know where my frog was but the bass was allready pulling hard so i set the hook with the mhfs 7' 2" fuego rod and was not going to lose this fish. I set the hook hard 2 more times, so hard the drag sang out and it was allready pinched tight as it could be. Sometimes that last i dont care cast im goin home type of deal can make your day, it did mine.
