  1. oh no!!! my deepest condolences!!!
  2. I have a Mora Companion I’ll use on a muddy wild hog. A scandi grind is okay for meat. Just okay. I like a nice knife. Like my fishing gear I’m okay spending some money for one or two.
  3. that last outing was fun. I mastered a turkey field cleaning method that makes the entire event almost fun. I basically skin the bird. a super magically sharp knife is key. the end result doesnt look like I shot a down pillow with buckshot. on a hoofed (hooven? - whatever) the bung hole is the worst for me. it's the challenging part. again, a sharp sharp knife is key. I left my sharp knife at camp, and had to borrow one from my friend to gut my doe. it was awesome. bung-easy. the inside the neck tubing swipe, easy! that membrane holding in the "stuff"? easy. I barely got my hands bloody and it was easily my PB timing to dumping the guts out. and this is after a 10 year hunting hiatus. at camp we worked side by side breaking down animals into ice chest-able pieces for the ride home to CA. I did fine, but I kept eyeballing his knife. I would swipe it on a diamond hone for him and hand it back sharper each time. at home I kept thinking about that cool knife. then my friend called me. he said, if he did a review of the knife they would give him a 20% discount coupon. he wrote a review, and ordered the knife for me. I picked on in my color palette choice. I have very few knives now. given them away, or sold them. now? I may sell most of them. I found the one that works for me. it is the perfect pointy-ness. the belly skins well. the thin blade-stock makes sharpening so much easier. (same reasoning why fillet knives are a piece of cake - for me) my new knife that will ride shotgun into the distant future... MKC Blackfoot 2.0. the sheath needs a modification, but I have that coming in the mail. OEM is goofy.
  4. For sure. Get your multi-meter ready. No denying the compact battery and how light it is.
  5. I bought two. Kelly? the lady at Nocqua sent me a free replacement. she was cool as heck. I powered a Garmin 4" FF first, then a Lowrance 5". it powered it fine. Nocqua suggested I run them down occasionally and I think that was bad advice. no battery survived that move. yes. all three went bad. and my friend lost two. the odds are undisputed. we both bought regular lithium batteries and housed them in water proof boxes. never looked back. Kelly? examined one of my batteries, the one she replaced. she said the tech said a cell was faulty. dunno. I never chased warranty on the other one. over it, and she was too nice to badger. I still have them. I use them to recharge cell phones on camping trips or run those tiny LED camp lights. not all is lost.
  6. Good luck with the Nocqua. I’ve owned three and all three went bad. They would all only charge to a max of 12.01v. The chargers wouldn’t stop flashing since they were trying to get them closer to 12.4v. I gave up on them.
  7. its a useful position. I thought I could do it easily. heck, I have backpacked and utilized the squat many many times. I never realized I was always in a heel up position. a lady challenged me, and I rebuked, "piece of cake!". I almost toppled over backwards. heel up, I can stay that way for a long time. heel down, I was shocked: I thought I had this. mission: get those heels down! it took me two weeks. I would try it all day long at random intervals. telephone call? drop and hold for 1-minute. pet the dog? "come here HANK! whose a good boy?" 1 minute interval. I had to hold on to something firm for about a week. to find my center of balance. I learned my squat is much different that what a 100lb, super fit, asian long distance joggers squat looks like. It was impossible to make it look like hers. my knees and hips are getting flexy!
  8. I use leader specific line. Blue label for salt water. Daiwa stuff for fresh. I feel it’s simply stiffer.
  9. it isn't so much a "long road". its more of a tight rope bridge with missing planks and exposed nails.
  10. J braiding now. It was $12. No biggie if it sucks. I’ll fall back to 832 if needed.
  11. I still have to push a cotton swab thru my guides to check for any cracks. drop shot (desperate times...). I toss it out deep and pulled out a PB&J sandwich. I twitch the worm. I take a bite. I look and my line is moving. I slowly pick up slack, feel the fish swimming and set the hook like I'm being filmed. the fish hated it and took off and snapped my line with that sick sound. followed immediately with my, "NOOOOOOOOO!" it was a strong fish! my index finger got jammed in the process since I didnt have the prefect grip on the rod. Almight Braid. very new Almight Braid. I'm gonna peel it all off, and buy J-Braid. haha.. could have been a catfish..but I'll never know.. what a day. 3 keepers and the lochness monster bite. edit: no cracked guides.
  12. all LING cod season, they were sold out. now? they have them, and they are also 40% off. I bought a pile. I have so many LMB beavers bought in the off season....so many I had to hide the duffel bag from the wife. in my defense I bought a load of them for my Mexico trip only to find the bass bite everything. hahah.. I won't need to buy beavers for 3 seasons.. I got them all 25% off last winter. my grass-piece stash makes a toilet paper hoarder question my sanity. the off season. I cant wait to start fishing soon, so I can save money!!! LMB trip scheduled for next weekend at Lake Berryessa. gah.i hope they are biting beavers.
  13. I dont even have a boat. BUT I have towed them and lots of trailers. I really push to have my trailer running level. it's why hitch receivers come in so many lengths. I would get that right first. especially on smaller trailers, it helps the trailer track smoothly when it is level. and I would get a shorter boat jack, no? AJAYS rig is delightfully level!!! make it like that
  14. Wow. So easy. The Xurons are easy.
  15. Phenix Recon. Sick rod. Me: Phenix Maxim. Sick rod and you get to keep half your $
  16. I just fought some crank baits. half of the problem was I was wearing an older pair of glasses. the other half was my junk pliers. I just ordered my own Xurons. since I am moving into salt water jigging, I seem to always be into a split ring. not to mention constantly changing hooks on my vision 110's. enough is enough. the Xurons were less than $20.
  17. Ocean fishing with heavier lines; the FG dominates. It’s stronger. And thinner. Fresh water with smaller braid. I trend towards the Alberto. The knot is small enough. And I tie it better. It dies tick thru the guides.
  18. ‘The one” and “won’t break the bank”. Mutually exclusive.
  19. It is sometimes the funnest event of the day. Haha. Oh. Pics are mandatory
  20. I could in my youth get back onto my brothers bass boat. I vaguely recall using the motor?
  21. Burp the drysuit. Be very aware of zipper management. I keep mine clean and lubricated. And I don’t bend mine. I fold everything around the zipper. For men: the tiny front zipper is a game changer.
  22. if I had multiple kayaks, that one would be in my armada for sure.
  23. Fresh knot and leader every trip.
  24. Circling back on this. The FG is strong! I’ve snagged to ocean floor and have had to great it all off. I haven’t lost it at the knot yet. At the Alberto? I have. My watershed moment was to stop counting wraps. I watch for knot length. For salt I go to .75” , for fresh I go .5”. It is so strong. I bought the tool to try the PR knot, and that’s a new frustration. It’s so difficult!!
