  1. I agree with the above post, Fury 705CB works great for medium size cranks up to 1oz max but also a good option for squarebill, 703 is the sweet spot for squarebill when you want accuracy and for chatterbaits better a 4 power. Maybe you can find a more versatile Dobyns model in other series as suggested, Kaden, Sierra, Champion..
  2. For me it doesn't feel like a plastic, the only plastic feeling it's the non handle sideplate, as I said I've had no issues with it and no complaints about. If your question is if there are some better reels on the market I'll say yes for sure, but I like Chronarch MGL very much. I use one for jig and Texas rig and the other one for squarebills
  3. I've the same rod but different reel paired with, I use 795 for oversized crank like MB Big M and medium swimbait, the max weight I throw is almost 3oz. If you need to throw heavier baits go to Fury 806
  4. Hey guys, take a look at that thread, maybe can help:
  5. Paypal only on the website, make a call directly to Gary
  6. @Kenneth Yi If you are afraid to use baits with treble just don't use them, seriously, if you are fishing with fear to lose lures you'll fish in a bad mood and you won't enjoy the fishing. But you can try with high floating shallow water baits, upsize your line and in case pulling the bait that got snagged will bend the hook and you can save it. You can also change treble with double hooks and make them weedless by tying nylon guard, I made that to some squarebill that I throw in very shallow water with lot of grass when I'm bed fishing. Or....don't use hard baits and go to flukes (Zoom for ex) or soft swimbait if you want a shad or minnow profile. Losing baits I know it's frustrating, when you lose a crankbait or a jerk that you paid a lot of $$$ or it's your favourite one but that's part of fishing as well.
  7. I never had a problem with it after 2yrs of use, I take care of all my reels so I hope it still continues to work properly (crossing fingers)
  8. @William21 I'm curious as well, why you don't like Chronarch? I own a MGL one in 7.1 and for me it's a really smooth and very light reel, I like the way it fits, with its low profile it's very palmable, no complaints about the mechanical.
  9. I use Dobyns Fury 795SB but as mentioned above, if you want to throw 5oz baits better step up to the 806 HSB Sorry but for power fishing I'm a Dobyns fan, Fury series it's a great rod for what you pay IMO
  10. For shallow fishing during spring I'm still using old balsa Rapala fat Rap, they are silent and wide wobble action and still produce good bass, colour blue chrome, black back and silver belly, firetiger. Tight action : MB Super Z1 in GG Gill, Spawn killer, Mat tiger. MB SR X Griffon in Fire Craw, kasumi tiger (this particular tiny bait runs super shallow, when there is a lot of fishing pressure it's a must to throw for me) MB Flap slap, "hybrid" crank, you can twitch it as a jerk, same colours above plus ghost chart shad and see through Mat tiger. @A-Jay I though I was super meticulous and obsessed by my tackle and how to store them but you win!
  11. Hi @Captain Phil ,I really hope you are right and you can protect the unique and beautiful Florida environment. I went south more than 10 years ago when I used to flyfishing and I fell in love with Everglades and the Keys....so I cross my fingers
  12. I think all the exotic species that were introduced are a "dream come true" for many anglers, they are fun to catch, they are aggressive and multi coloured! No more need to go thousands miles away to wild countries and remote areas anymore 'cause we have them in our rivers, lakes and ponds, but what about native fish and the ecosystem? Snakehead, Peacock, Arapaima, what's next? Here in Europe Bass was introduced in 1800, so long time ago, and in most european countries it's considered as a native one. In the recent past other species were introduced (most from east Europe) and in some lakes native fish just disappeared due to overpopulation of predatory fish. Here it's the same story with different invasive fish. Back to the real topic, I don't think pike there (US) are the problem for bass if they used to share the same area before, but maybe the real issue is an overpopulation of both species in the same body of water and not enough prey (shad, craw, minnow...). I also caught my PB (7lbs 2oz) in a reservoir plenty of big pike
  13. 100 vs150 it's your choice, 150 weight a bit more (If I'm right) and has more line capacity, for chatterbaits 100 will do the job. If line capacity is your concern go to 150
  14. Seems you have all the gears you need, all good and smooth for the applications you are talking, if you want a super light and shallow spool one go to the Aldebaran for jerkbaits. I love mine, it can throw light lure very easy, super smooth and light so it's not a problem to jerk all day long. I've 50size MGL in 7.4 retrieve, be sure to spool it with a thin line 'cause the spool is pretty shallow. Chronarch and Met are both great for squarebill and medium crankbaits
  15. 100 wins! Tatula 100 is a great reel for the price range, good decision! I have one for medium crankbaits and no complaints about it
  16. Hook Up Tackle has a lot of other JDM brands other than MB in case you want to buy in US. Till now I've bought only from JLS in Japan but all the other shops mentioned above are great as well, there is poor stock now in JP in almost all the reputable sites.
  17. I received my order (MB cranks and jerkbaits) today from JLS via FedEx, it took only 5 days to Spain. Great service + two 1/2oz OSP blade baits as Gift! Awesome
  18. @lunkerboss923 Take a look at "Hook Up Tackle" shop in Peoria, near Phoenix AZ. They carry a lot of JDM products, reel, lures, rods and everything in between.
  19. There is another thread about that somewhere here, I would say take a look for the Dobyns Fury 795SB. It's a versatile rod that I use for sb and oversized crank like Big M 7.5 About the reel it depends on your budget and if you want a dedicate one or something versatile but an heavy duty reel in the 200 or 300 size will do the job IMO. Curado, Calcutta D, Tranx, Tatula.....
  20. @lunkerboss923 I've ordered from JLS and they advised me that due to Covid it's possible some delays even via FedEx, now they don't ship via Japan post since order can take as long as 3 weeks to leave the country. Never ordered from AP but I suggest to you to check your bank account and check the details of transaction you made is correct. I used PayPal and JLS charged the amount when order was shipped. I was scammed buying from the most "legit" and reputable US site, ...so, sometimes s#%t happens. $160 for me it's pretty much so I hope you can received what you paid for. If it's my first purchase from a new site I'll usually make an order in the 30-40$ range just to test the water.
  21. I agree with @DomQ 6'10 glass for squarebill, since I guess it should have a soft and whippy tip it's not the right tool for jerkbaits if you want to work them with sharp and crisp movements. But, it's just my opinion
  22. Yes, I confirm that Mojo comes with 5 years warranty, enough for me.
  23. Made my first order from Japan Lures, hope to receive it fast as you
  24. I've paired mine with a Tatula TW 100 in 6.3:1 and the biggest crankbaits I throw are 6XD, MB deep x300 and deep six, for me it's almost the limit with the 705CB. I'm a Dobyns fan for power fishing, so for bigger baits I should say Champion XP 805 (up to 1oz and 1/2) and the XP 806 up to 2oz
  25. I use the Mojo SCIII 6'8" M power XF tip for jerkbaits and I love it. Good rod for the money I'm really impressed. I really don't care about the colour unless it's like a Star Wars lightsaber.
