I knew the rain was coming but decided to go out for a bit. Started out with 4 dinks then lost a nice one right at the boat. Kept after it till I finally got this one who weighed just under 3 lb’s. Caught a couple others before the pre-storm winds came up. This 2.5 lb was the class of the previous day’s 14 bass catch.

Senko hook
I’ve used a variety, including EWG. Mostly, I use a straight shank bait keeper with a deep throat so there’s plenty of room for the Senko.

Tight Line or Slack Line hookset?
Most times I reel down and set it hard. Sometimes i leave a little slack and set. It really depends on how the bite feels to me.

Butt seat - what size pedestal?
Height is a consideration. Also, consider if you want powered or manual. I ended up going with the latter because i'm cheap but, I find i rarely adjust the height so it's worked out well.

Interesting experience at BPS yesterday....this ever happen to you?
Yes, due to pricing it happens to me a lot. I go in thinking I'm going to pickup something I need but find it to be price $1 per higher, so I pass. But, it's like a woman in child birth. I always forget that it's overpriced and keep going back ?

That's a big fish. I'd be scared to let it in the boat.

Good news!
Outstanding. I can still remember catching my first. I was stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. One of my co-instructors (SFC Marshall I believe) was from FL and an avid bass fisherman. He started me on the bass fishing journey. I'm sure it was a crankbait.

'Real' boat purchase...maybe? Can you tell me about possible picks.
I'd wanted a bass rig all my life and, a year ago last May, my wife surprised by suggesting that we go look at boats. This was in the middle of COVID while my pay had been cut by 25%. I knew next to nothing about what to look for and wish I'd of had access to this forum then. I love my boat but, if I had it to do all over again, i'd have upped the TM to at least a 70lb 24v system. I'd like to be able to get up on plan while trolling, especially since I fish an "electric only" lake.

Hardbaits VS Plastics & Costs...???
I have my share of hard baits but, admittedly, plastics are my go to. Why? Because I personally catch more fish on plastics than I do hard baits. And since I fish to catch fish, .... well you get it. That being said, the time of year or the patterns of the bass will dictate a swing in the other direction. So, the reality is, I don't think you can rely solely on one or the other, regardless of durability. While hard baits may be more cost effective when considered in a 5-year TCO, there are simply times when one will not catch a fish. By the same token, in my own limited experience, when bass are busting schooling shad near the top, you can drown as many plastic worms as you have in your tackle box and may not get the first nibble.

Do you have to thumb a baitcaster?
You can tighten it up to where the thumb isn’t needed but you’ll sacrifice distance and, perhaps, accuracy. Nor will you have much chance of controlling the entry. And, after all that, depending on wind and mechanics, you’ll still backlash when you least expect it.

I caught a few smallies while stationed at Ft. Devens, MA. They were exceptional fighters. Congrats. So, it’s been raining cats and dogs for a week. The yard is flooded so I can’t get my boat out without tearing up the grass. I decided to drive over and walk the dam at the lake just to relax. Caught this guy and 4 of his brethren. First time I’d fished off the bank in a while.

Is fluorocarbon good as main line on a baitcaster?
I use 15lb FC on most of my BC reels and don't really see any particular issues with backlash that weren't attributable to my occasional bad casting technique. However, if you're just getting started, I'd say a quality mono may be the better choice. I do fish braid with a FC leader on my frog/jig setup.

What do do when fish buries in weeds
I can't say this will always work, and it probably goes against common wisdom, but I've had fish that have tried to tie me up in structure. I have had some success giving them a little slack and had them swim clear. Conventional wisdom probably says maintain constant pressure until they finally clear themselves. I've never been one for convention. Especially when the odds are high that I'm going to lose the fish anyway. A hog on 6 lb test from the bank puts those odds a bit higher. Just my opinion though.
