  1. I can see my wife and her family laughing at me now during our next vacation....
  2. Believe it or not when I lived in NY I'd find myself suffering from dehydration more often in the winter and cooler temps than I would in the summer when being outside. The cold air used to dry me out big time and I'd get pretty bad headaches, cotton mouth, etc. Without the heat I didnt have the thirst like I do in the summer so it made it even worse. So while hydration applies to heat, personally I apply it to cold/moderate temps too. EDIT: Came back to say the comment about thin sun clothing like the SPF ones have changed the game for me. Had a conversation with a lanscaping contractor at work and he filled me in on why they look like they are prepared for the winter. I have been buying up the ones with the hoods and keeping that up with a baseball cap. Throw some suntan lotion on the legs and feet and im much happier.
  3. Agreed, one of my favorite anglers to follow is a woman, Kristine Fischer. Has zero to do with her appearance, she just explains things well and entertaining to read/watch. Since joining this forum I've lost weight (in the wallet) and I now catch less bass than I did HOWEVER, large majority of the bass I catch are quality fish and in less than a year broke my PB 3 times. There are about a dozen techniques I still havent even touched yet. What I enjoy most is how active this forum is and the fact that its a forum. I dont do FB or their groups and most other forums dont have an active membership. You could go weeks before getting to an answer about something. Here has the knowledge and activity. Always something to read and learn.
  4. I think it was mentioned BUT...remember hydration starts BEFORE you go out into the heat. If you are going to be in the elements start drinking the day before. Also important to replace the electrolytes you sweat out, plenty of options here, but dont overdue it either.
  5. For what it's worth....I have an mb and kvd (basically the mp) and a lfs speed spool. I feel my speedspool fishes the best of the 3. Casts the best and controls line the best. Just my experience.
  6. Thanks @steve_in_pa that's a nice chart to get a good start. Starting to look forward to northern fishing again... might not be as big as down here on average but I feel like northerns are more aggressive.
  7. @casts_by_fly nah I looked up images and it looked like stargrass it but its not fine. Reading descriptions and photos its more like Alligator grass or Water Willow. Very thick stalks with narrow leaves off it. Decently dense but a swim jig can get through it, sometimes a chatterbait. I'm just using these patches to see what I'm looking for on SI with anything that might be submerged on this lake or others. I'll play with some settings monday and take some more images and some photos of the plants.
  8. @casts_by_fly those images are perfect and I can understand that! I just don't get that with mine. I KNOW for a fact there is water Stargrass to the right in the second pic because it lines just about every shore on my lake and I can visually see it come out of the water. I'll probably get out again Monday but I'll take some imaging and take a photo of what I visually see. It was recommended above I scan an area I knew had grass to see what it looked like and this is why I have issues lol. These were from a boat, in dead calm water running about 3-4mph so no rocking.
  9. Ok, the one with the bridge (first photo) I'd say is all rock/ledges. The other one I know there are weeds out to the right not more than 20-30ft poking up through the surface. I'm not quite seeing what would show weeds to the right and on the left I'd have initially thought that was rock but some of the "hard edges" are very squiggly and I've never seen rock like that. Thoughts?
  10. I took some images the other day when I was able to get out. I'll post them up later today/tomorrow. Your DI/SI looks like its right under the boat but trying to see what it looks like when its not under the boat. Best guess I have is it makes the image in those parts looks streaky.
  11. Thanks for the suggestion I'll have to try it. I love peat flavor/smell. And yes, I always have 2 bottles on hand of each "just in case", despite only have one glass every other week.
  12. I keep seeing references to people finding submerged weed lines with their sidescans. Can anyone show what that would look like? I have a hard time determining if what I'm seeing are rocks or weed lines and wanted to see if anyone can point main differences aside from stopping and throwing out a jig and dragging to find out.
  13. Recently changed it up and got myself a Shield Plus in 9mm. I love my P07 but for full days carrying and in slimmer stuff over the summer it can get heavy and hard to conceal. Was going to get a glock but the trigger on the shield plus is really impressive. Cant recall the brand but I added a 13rd bottom plate kit to the 10rd mag. Its slimmer than the factory 13rd so it conceals at the shirt better (13rd kid pictured below). Added a little light and just got it milled for a Holosun 407k in green. If you have an astigmatism like me the Green really does make a difference and doesnt distort like red does. I carry it in a Trex Sidecar with the mag attachment.
  14. I'm not a fan of whiskeys other than scotch but basically anything hyped up (eagle rare, buffalo trace, turkey, all levels of jack, Makers mark) taste horrible. I'm in drinking something other than scotch its Elijia Craig, has far less straight rubbing alcohol after taste than any of the above. My go tos are Lagavulin 16, Glenmorangie 18 and just recently Glenlivet Carribean Cask. I'd probably die of anxiety if I had to choose one for the rest of my life between Lag16 and the Carribean cask...16 is a classic taste but the Carribean is just something special.
  15. should make it seem like a cloudy. Might be better fishing?
  16. please tell me you played football?.....Polk High perhaps?
  17. Pretty sure someone out there got the nickname "nubs" or "stubs" because of this.
  18. if I could pitch like this guy I dont think I'd ever need to flip haha. Might try something heavier until I get the motion. Was primarily trying with a 5/16 and 3/8 jig. My problem is most of the fish I get seem to prefer the smaller profile baits.
  19. One of the techniques I could benefit from most give me the biggest headache....pitching. I cannot for the life of me get enough momentum up to get farther than a rods length away from the tip of my rod. It became pretty obvious when me and another boat were fishing opposite sides of a peninsula and I could see him clear as day pitching like a pro and hauling 3 bass out of the same stretch of cover I was fishing on my side with the same 2 lures (GP senko and jig).
  20. I only whip it out when absolutely nothing else will do it. Even then it's just to say I didn't get skunked because my max fish had been 2 to 2.5lbs. They just don't produce. Now a bang stick trig style has done well for me.
  21. never fishing....but walking to class one year I got targeted by a flock of geese. I was covered in green crap and the teacher said it was no excuse to miss class as I stood in front of him covered in those cobra chickens droppings. Had to sit there through a 2hr class. I still have green stains on that backpack to this day.
  22. I usually use something quick moving, spinnerbait, chatterbait, swim jig, etc until I get bit. If it's something high percentage like a dock it laydown I'll also do a lazy pick apart with a trig/jig
  23. Get the cool foot pad for your peddle. I'd love for my whole deck to be covered in it.
  24. It's hilariously scary. Like a Clown car crash. ?
  25. I'm regretting starting this thread.....
