Is it More Expensive to Fish Soft Plastics or Hardbaits?
Ouch!

Is it More Expensive to Fish Soft Plastics or Hardbaits?
If on average you’re losing 12 soft plastics for every crankbait, isn’t that a wash?

Is there a better solution for using a snap with a spinnerbait than a little dental rubber band?
Figure eight and twist the ends of a small wire at the tie. A bread bag tie works fine, but the twist ties manufacturers use to secure their products in the packaging are even better.

I’m at that point now…
I have over 20 setups. Various colored rods and reels. I don’t choose the 5 I’m taking out based on power and action, but rather color. I don’t want my setups clashing with my kayak color and clothing ensemble.

Bass are soft plastic picky?
It is more likely that the Creme Scoundrel was the best mimic of a bait fish native to the pond.

What line(s) would you use if you fished only one lake.
Go with largest diameter mono or co-poly that your reel calls for. Braid would be my last choice unless you go with a flouro leader. I suspect the lost fish on 10# mono was due to damaged line or improper drag.

Kayak Paddle
I would suggest a properly sized 2-piece. Since you will probably be using it primarily as a back-up to your pedal drive, I don’t think you need to spend a lot on it. The Ascend Trek or Ascend Tournament would be good choices. You can use one of the pieces as a sculling or hand-held paddle to correct your float or adjust your position when fishing. Again, the most important thing is properly sized. The wrong length paddle can wear you out. There are a number of sites on-line that provide sizing guidelines.

Best baits for river fishing this winter? Favorite Craw?
Yum Christie Craw Bama Magic (roll tide ) and Green Pumpkin …both naked and as jig trailers. Both caught fish in 43* clear water on a couple trips to the Potomac.

solder wire spinnerbaits
Not a stupid question. I’ve done this to larger weight spinnerbaits with skirt and blade colors not available in smaller sizes. I use a pair of flush cut pliers to trim bottom and rear of head, file it smooth, and repaint. I’ve never seen the need to worry about blade size because they catch fish.

Any Reason I Shouldn't Be Throwing my Cranks on 20lb. Braid to 6lb. Flouro?
20lb braid and 6lb flouro leader is what I’ve settled on and been using for a few years on the river. It has never let me down. I keep leaders in the 8’-10’ range.

Should I bring my own gear on a guided trip?
That would be like bringing your own silverware to a dinner party. The guide is being retained to ensure you have the best opportunity to catch fish. He can best meet that expectation only if he is certain that the equipment matches the conditions he anticipates encountering. Let him do his job. Leave your stuff at home.

Ah man. You could have waited for a few more replies.

Pro Influence
A pro angler has as much influence over my choice about anything fishing as a NASCAR driver has over my choice of soft drink, candy or car battery. None.

If you had to pick ONE bait
Oh I wasn’t dismissing the shad pattern. It is one of the best. I was just stretching the OPs rule for answers.

If you had to pick ONE bait
This, but I would have a few different patterned skirts to swap just in case.

Probably Won't Do That Again ~
There may be a reason some synonyms for finesse are ‘avoid’, ‘eschew’, and ‘shun’. Just saying.

What lure did you catch your biggest bass on in 2021 ?
I’ve mounted cheap phone holders on each of my yaks. Walmart sells one that fits into an auto’s CD slot. It is ideal. The large base allows you to clamp it or permanently screw it.

Hmm. Salted or unsalted?

Penn Conflict II Christmas purchase
I have 2 Penns. Yes, they are incredibly smooth, and they cast a mile. Coincidentally, they are both paired on Ugly Stik carbon rods. They are always among the 4 setups I choose to take out with my yak.
