Yo, I'm Thoreau. How 'bout you?
Well you popped that bubble, it was a walk in the park.

Yo, I'm Thoreau. How 'bout you?
I keep it pretty simple, 3 rods, a 4 medium size tray bag, a small bag of plastics, and sometimes the little box of spinnerbaits. Of course that’s just what’s in the boat. Fwiw. I read The Maine Woods just before a Sept trip down the Allagash. after experiencing how thick the pines are it’s amazing they dragged their bateau up and down the hills, mile after mile, through those trees. Finding a spot to setup a tent is near impossible. Tough guys back then.

Thermometer?
I use this little digital, has a 10’ wired remote probe I can drop down into the deep, better than just the surface temp. https://www.acurite.com/products/digital-thermometer-with-temperature-sensor-probe-00888?srsltid=AfmBOorkJhTn2DZp-p7tA9dWp2xd5GU8it0LQXAHaOSRxsCDUakUg4RN I hung a small trolling weight off the hole in the probe so it’ll sink. https://www.fishusa.com/Bullet-Weights-Trolling-Sinkers-with-Chain-and-Snap/?sku=133764

Thinking of giving up on baitcasters
I fish from a canoe, once or twice a week. I’ve always been a spinning reel guy and had no reason not to be. A few years ago arthritis in my knuckles was giving me big time issues for the finger/s I use to hold the line preceding a cast when using heavier lures, spinner baits and the like. I borrowed a decent baitcast setup from family and found it cleared the knuckle problem so I can fish again. It’s been a few years, I now have 2 baitcast rigs which I use as stated above, for the heavy stuff. I also always carry and use 1 or 2 spinning setups, depending on conditions. Probably about 50/50 split for time using either on a typical trip. It’s fairly rare to get a birds nest now, maybe once a day, most coming out easy enough, but not all. Still can’t cast accurately or get all that much distance. I tried measuring a cast at home and consistently max at about 30 yds. If I need to cast accurately I swap to spinning. No way will I ever cast as well with bait cast gear, 50 years practice with spinning trumps 3 years with baitcast. I like the baitcasting gear for summer and fall when the weeds take over, I get more torque with them, although an anchor is no match for big lily stems. I anchor a lot, mitigating the wind, at least the lighter stuff. Couldn’t fish much without. I won’t be getting rid of either rig type, I enjoy and have a need for both.

The biggies for me are Home Depot and Lowe’s, fishing purchases pale in comparison.

How Long (time wise) Is Your Last Cast......????
Pretty much the same as the OP. I start paddling back to the launch site after “last cast” is called. A 10 or 15 minute trip may take an hour, the real last cast is normally a couple hundred feet from the launch, however long it takes me to get there.

things auto manufacturers should stop making
sure, but it posts messages when it can’t see your face. On occasion I drive with my hand at 12 o’clock, blocking the camera, it gets mad. The camera is mounted on top of the steering column, just aft of the wheel..

How cold is TOO cold to fish?
When I was younger I’d go out as long as there was no ice, granted I didn’t catch any fish, but it’s always nice to get out. 30 years later, FUGETABOUTIT.

How was your fishing in 2025?
mediocre at best The ponds I’ve fished for 25 years are getting more and more pressure, with the expected results. I do okay in numbers but the biguns are in hiding or just plain gone. Health issues closed my season for the year in August.

Just got a 26 Camry “hybrid”. Arch Enemy, driver monitor camera that you can almost turn off. small stuff Lane change assist, flat out useless, worse, it gets in the way. I get alarms for unknown reasons, by the time I look down at the gauges the alarms gone. How the heck do you use the radio, regular old am/fm radio??? So far the auto wipers are not worth using, they seem to keep sensing rain after it stops. I’ve only driven it at night once so far but the auto brights seems to work better then the 2020 Honda we got rid of, time will tell. I preferred non auto on the Honda.

PFD
Suppose you could hold it underwater and find out, it’ll cost you a re-arming kit to do so. Kind of like a parachute, you don’t really know till you actually need it. i use both, the inflatable in warm weather, the foam one when it’s colder.

Quick and uncomplicated way to polish spinnerbait blades and spoons
I’ve tried a few kinds of polish on old t shirt material, on dull or dirty blades they all work, if it doesn’t I replace them.

I feel like the outlier at Bass Resource because I just don't know.
Yep. Can’t count the number of times I’ve gone back to the same spot 2 days later with the exact same baits at the same time of day and got nada.

Best I can do is know where they were last time.

Heeby-Jeebies?
Other then the odd noises that get you when by yourself out in the dark I had some sort of snake trying to get in the canoe, darn thing was lifting it’s head up near high enough to get over the gunwales. All I could think about was what the hell do I do if it gets in.

Stihl backpack leaf blower -- these things are awesome!
I can get away with mulching the smaller leaves but once the oaks start, forget about it. It’s like trying to mulch paper plates.

Stihl backpack leaf blower -- these things are awesome!
I have a Huskvarna 580BTS, biggest I could get, I suppose it would be considered heavy. Yes, it does a great job, however it can be a hassle to start if you don’t do a yearly PM, and after an hour or so my neck starts to scream. I do appreciate the power, I’ve got a lot of trees that seem to drop leaves over a prolonged period. For my needs I wouldn’t go smaller. i do have a Stihl BGA86 battery job that I use all year, works well for little jobs but no way it could do the whole yard. Cons: it’s all plastic, meaning the switch is cheesy. I have to take it in for cleaning once or twice a year.

What is the most expensive lure you've lost?
In the $20 range, surf casting big swim baits and such. More then once the lure flew a lot farther then the line, you generate a lot of torque winding up and tossing a 4 oz bait with a 12’ rod. Blues steal a lot too. Don’t have any $$$ lures for freshwater.

Boomerang Fishing Line Cutter
Sort of the same, I bought 2 of them, the one I use a lot is having a hard time cutting braid after maybe 3 years. I use them on the water April thru October roughly once a week. The best part is they are impossible to lose.
