What brand/type of line for leader to braid on spinning setup?
I use Seagaur Blue for abrasion resistance.

Cigars..
When I first started cigars I used Macanudo Golds in the Hampton Court size, besides being light enough for a rookie the tubes work well to keep them from getting crushed in the tackle box. Fairly hard to find but one can order them from one of the bigger online stores.

What do you say?
I say something if I get a big one on, mostly just telling it to stay on in some form., maybe a whoop of some sort if it gets landed. I most certainly do say something if it gets off, like what you yell when you bang your head working on the bathroom sink piping.

How did you get into Bass fishing?
I started canoeing to go canoe camping in Maine and NY when I got too old for backpacking. I enjoyed the solitude of canoeing with my wife on uninhabited waters and started doing it locally without the camping aspect. When my wife stopped wanting to go I needed something to do while on the water so I started bass fishing. I’ve always saltwater fished, this was my first try at fresh. Takes a good while to learn when you have no one to teach you. Learned mostly trial and error, books instead of the internet.

People that park in handicapped spots that obviously are not handicapped when you see them walk into the store.

Motorized or not
While I use the truck bed or up on the roof depending on which boat I bring, your post begs the question, what constitutes “car top”. Is a kayak on a trailer “car top”?

Sawzall
Dewalt plugin here, works great, easy to change blades. If I were buying now I’d go with whatever line of battery powered I was using, in my case the red ones. Not exactly a finesse tool so brand isn’t a big concern. Ryobi is probably good enough if you want to save a few $.

Motorized or not
Thanks all, just called one of the parks, they consider a motor a gas motor, electric is okay. At least that was their understanding, not like I talked to a ranger.

Motorized or not
It’s not a registration question, it’s can you put a yak with a tm in a pond that says no motors?
-
Motorized or not
For some of you kayak folks… Looking at some state park ponds in central Ma, the web sites say they allow car top non motorized boats. Is a trolling motor powered kayak considered motorized?

How often to retie?
I run my fingers down the line a few inches after every fish, if I feel a burr it gets retired, at least I try to do this. I still get bit off now and then but not nearly as much as I used to.

"Excuse me, may I have a little privacy here?"
“Ironically, her house is the newest house on the pond. She's only been there for two years and seems to have already claimed the water.“ This is what I had guessed before I saw your reply. If one were to post a pond name and how great the fishing there is, she would likely get many more visitors. Of course that would be the end of the great fishing.

Office visit?
I wouldn’t necessarily blame the front office folks, somehow there was something checked saying you had a visit too. I’d put up a stink and make sure the doc knows whether it was her mistake or something else.

Good deal, you got lucky.

Wind watching question
I look at the projected wind on Wunderground on Sunday and pick a weekday with the least wind to go out and check on it a few times as it gets closer, last time before I head out. It’s an hour drive and stinks to get there and have to turn around.

Length of the Average Fishing Trip
Average is probably 5 hrs on the water, can’t sit in the canoe much longer than that.

do you carry a pocket knife daily?
Yup, same little one Daubs shows. Can’t take it with you on planes, already had to sacrifice 2 of them.

The decline of our lakes.
The sprawl of vacation homes has been happening for years, you’re just seeing it now in your area. The retirement of the boomer generation isn’t helping. All of us who grew up back when you could enjoy the freedom to hike or canoe anywhere you wanted find it depressing. Back when I frequented the Adirondacks city folks started buying it up around the time of 9/11. The locals were ticked, they could no longer afford apartments as rental prices skyrocketed, they had to live elsewhere. Covid made the Berkshires unaffordable, NY and NJ folks bought up everything to escape. My favorite ponds have seen the fishing quality nose dive since then. Too many retired folks, me included.

New guy from Bradley Airport area here
Welcome to the forum. Have you walked the trail at the canal? I know the CT has bass and carp and the canal does look inviting, at least what I’ve seen of it. We tried hiking it last winter but the trail at the bridge is blocked off till mid April. It would be worth walking it and seeing if you can get at it to fish from shore. Supposedly you can bike it so you could do like the Cape Cod canal where they carry all their stuff on the bikes. might be able to get to parts of the Farmington too. There is a boat launch near the airport, not that I’ve tried it. The Rainbow Reservoir launch, might use the yak to check it out fr shore fishing.

do you dress like a fisherperson?
I dress like my idea of a fisherman, old ratty clothes that I don’t care if a fish or 2 bounce off them, mostly old hiking stuff that dries fast. I see I’m not alone. I do own a few St Croix T’s.

Pounding Two Pounders
Sounds like the tendinitis I get in the shoulders at least yearly. For me it’s a month or so in PT and not lifting the shoulder more than a little or very slowly. Hopefully it’s a one off for you. At least you got injured for a good cause, me not so much, shoveling snow, running the weed whacker, fun stuff like that.

StC Victory Spinning Rod Selection
My lightest saltwater setup is a Tidewater that I like, it’s paired with an old Diawa Capricorn that’s built like a tank.
