What brand/type of line for leader to braid on spinning setup?

Featured Replies

I’ve been using Trilene Big Game 10lb mono for leader line to braid for my spinning setups.  It works ok but I’m wanting something a little more abrasion resistant.  A guide I know has been using Izorline XXX and liked it so I tried some.  Not sure if I got a bad spool or what but I kept getting random line snaps. Even just tying knots.  So now I’m looking at fluorocarbon and it seems like quality consistency is all over the place from reviews, even on higher end lines.

Lines I’m currently considering: Gamma Edge or Touch,  p-line tactical fluoro, seaguar invisx or abrazx, sunline fc sniper, sunline shooter, daiwa j-fluoro Samurai, suffix advance.  Also considering trying another copolymer like p-line cxx in 6-8lb

all or these have good reviews and plenty of bad ones too.  Am I just overthinking this?

I use Seagaur Blue for abrasion resistance.

Samurai is excellent

I use Seaguar 10#.

Seaguar InvizX

I've tried several of the ones you listed. I prefer 12lb sunline fc leader. You might want a different lb test depending on where you are at but in terms of overall value it's been the best for me by far.

More abrasion resistant that big game is going to be a tough ask. That’s already well up there so I’m curious what you’re abrading against and if 10#big game is not enough you might need to think 15#.

For my braid to leader I’m using sunline fc leader in 6/8/10 depending on the cover I’m in. 10# gets thrown into lily pads and I’ve not broken one yet.

That Izorline is tougher than a Kroeger steak. I'm using up a spool of Yo zuri flouro now in 6lb.

It's about like the 8lb Invisx I usually buy.

I was fishing some sort of hard bottom catching bass.  Maybe shells idk, but after a few bass with a drop shot, it was bad frayed and cloudy right above the hook.

Are you referring to fluoro or mono on the big game being abrasion resistant?  Because I’m currently using big game mono not fluoro

How do you like the Yo Zuri?  Idk what was up with the Izorline but it wasn’t good at all.  Maybe Tackle Warehouse had the spool sitting around too long or maybe it was quality control on that spool.  I just know I broke off two drop shots and a worm. I tried a palomar knot and a uni knot but it wasn’t always breaking at the knot.

I used to use Seaguar Blue or Salmon, with good results.  Recently been using Diawa J-Fluoro Leader, mostly because the local shop stocks it and the guys there recommended it when it cam out.  I've had good results, seems to survive well fishing neds and dropshot around zebra mussels and rock.

👉 I’ve been running Yo-Zuri Hybrid in 6lb because the breaking strength is solid. It’s known to be a bit thicker—more like the diameter of an 8lb line.

Big game mono. As far as line goes, it would be up there with abrasion resistance. Something like a hard maxima might be better but it is stiff like wire.

I ran big game for half my season and never had any issues. It’s not the most abrasion resistant but it’s very solid in that dept. I’ve landed fish on a “textured” leader, but it held up. P-line cxx, trilene xt and maxima chameleon or ultragreen are thicker diameter, but very, very durable mono for leader. Maxima has gotten very high priced though

Seaguar Gold Label or Grand Max. Another good one is Daiwa Saltiga Xlink.  I tend to like 10lb for most applications.
