  1. that’s not what I took from him, so we’ll see what he actually meant. Parallel is not toward necessarily. Just parallel paths that could be 50’ apart.
  2. Two options in the falcon lineup to consider. 6’10” finesse jig/topwater. Great rod designed exactly for what you’re describing. Also, the 7’2” swim jig rod. Really light tip but quick into the backbone. Ignore the lure ratings, it’s a 1/4-3/4 rod. I have the expert finesse jig and the Cara swim jig.
  3. You can put a kill switch on a trolling motor. My autopilot has one, though that's a little different with it being the primary propulsion and a kayak.
  4. I can understand his logic and use it some myself. In theory, if there is a boat coming from my 10:00 and we are both angling for the same point and bound for a collision, then he has to turn to his left and parallel me or he has to turn hard right and go behind me. I am the stand on boat and shouldn't have to alter my path. However, given that most boaters don't know or don't abide by those rules, I'm not taking the change that he'll suddenly remember them when we are angling for a collision. As much as I'm in the right, the number one rule of boating is don't get in a collision. So in my example if I turn to the right 60 degrees or so we are now parallel and no longer going to intersect. He's going a lot faster than me, so he'll run past me and I'll turn back those 60 degrees toward my destination. In a similar situation (depending on distance on the boats speed) I'll also just throttle down/off so that he's through the intersection point long before I get there. I love being right. I also love being alive.
  5. did you watch Alice in Borderland on Netflix? A variant of this puzzle featured there.
  6. BMW was on a 12k interval as far back as 2003. I was working for an additives company that among other things did engine oil additives. As noted above, the combination of direct electronic fuel injection and improvements in oil additive technology mean that with a properly maintained car and decent oil you can go far longer than 3k miles. My ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi is on a 10k schedule. I go fully synthetic and a premium filter. The oil when you change it looks better than some oils when you put them in the engine. I'm sure it could do a 20k interval but 10k is 14-16 months for me so I just do it and consider it an 'annual' expense. Also not cheap since it takes 8 or 9 quarts.
  7. Hi all, anyone know of a comparison of “sonar minnows”, aka livescope soft bait jig head minnows? I’ve got a couple that I fish now but there are tons out there. I doubt there is much difference between them but I’d love to compare and contrast the options. thanks rick
  8. thats a good description. I think you’ll like it.
  9. im aware. That was just for the picture. I usually use the hook keeper but on this rod the keeper is in the split of the grip which sits down in the rod holder tube. I was sending my dad a pic of what I caught it on.
  10. For mixing or drinking on its own? not quite at your $15 price point but four roses yellow label is usually $20 or so and is the best at that price point I know of. Buffalo trace is similar quality (different taste) and not far off price wise. But price varies depending on your stores.
  11. Fished for 9 hours today for bass at one of my favorite lakes which is quickly loosing favor. 55-57 degrees, both sunny and heavy overcast, still and windy. I fished the bank, fished off shore, fished the flats, fished the drops. At one point I was fishing 55’ of water for fish I marked. Tons of bait but couldn’t buy a bass. I livescoped transition areas between deep water and spawning areas from 50’ to 5’. Anything I thought was a bass got thrown to. Most were crappie. Some I thought that before casting but the last one was on its own on a big flat and I was sure it was a bass. It was not. Didn’t keep any but if I’d have had my net bag I would have caught more.
  12. you’ve bought it but my opinion is the same as ranger jockey. It’s a great rod, one of my favorites. I wish falcon would change the lure rating to an actual weight rating and not how it’s listed. It’s a genuine 1/4-3/4 rod. Maybe even 1/4-1. I fish mine with 30 lb 832 braid. For me it’s swim jigs, lighter Texas rigs, the occasional finesse jig, and buzzbaits. It’s a good buzzbait rod for 3/8 and lighter. It has a quick tip for casting but gets into power quickly on a hook set. if you fish mono I can see that. I tend to throw lipless on the trapcaster with braid. And braid on the swim jig is too much for lipless. It works in a pinch, but it’s it’s a lot of quick tip and no stretch in the line.
  13. very nice. I love how on the first fish it didn't even seem like you had a hit. Then even after you set the hook it didn't even look like it was much of a fish. Until it was... they must still be just a little cold yet. On a separate note for your weighing procedure, you could drop the fish in the bag, throw it on the scale and hit tare. it should zero at that point. Then release the fish and the weight on the scale will show a negative fish weight. Probably the easiest way to do what you're doing without actually doing any math.
  14. Depending on your preferred length either the falcon expert bayou or the Amistad. Both right at $200. The bayou is 6’11” and my choice for frogs and the amistad is my heavy-ish pitching rod for those weights. Both will do both though.
  15. I'm not clear on if those are bait plus weight or bottom and top range weights. If you're talking 1/4-1/2 oz jigs and texas rigged weights plus a trailer/plastic then I'd say the Expert Head turner is going to be a great rod. Its only 6'10" but you asked for a bit shorter. It was designed as a short range pitching rod. Fast action, great power. Its my primary rod I grab every trip for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and swimjigs. I throw a lot of everything on it and its a great short range pitching rod. if you're talking about 3/8 on the bottom end (total weight) and going all the way up top 1 oz plus plastic then I stand by the Cara Amistad.
  16. If you have a good Solix head unit with a bad transducer then I'd get a 360 transducer. It will give you the 360 you're looking for plus the 360 transducer can be used for side imaging views.
  17. Yes, at least the full size one (I don't have the micro remote to say). Its not submersible level waterproof if you sink it to the bottom and leave it there but I've had it fully soaked in rain and dropped it in pools of water in the boat.
  18. I have the bucoo 5-17 and have handled the 4-17. I don't know the LFCs but they are the Lowrider equivalents of the Bucoos. The trapcaster is my primary crankbait rod. My primary crankbaits are DT4/6/10, OG4/6, and lipless cranks plus squarebills and some other odds and ends early season. For those its a great rod. I fish braid with lipless on it and 12 lb mono for other cranks. I've fished it with a Bomber square A a few times and that's the smallest/lightest crankbait in my box. The bomber is 1/4 oz with light bronze hooks. A DT4/OG4 is 5/16 with heavier hooks. The bomber is right on the edge for that rod. You can cast it and fish it, but you're not going to use it to cover a big flat with 30+ yard casts. Its more of a going down the bank crankbait. The DT4/OG4 have just a bit more heft to them and are fine. I've thrown a DT16 on that rod but that's a little much. It was more that was the rod I had with me and I needed to get down deeper. And to be fair its a full 3/4 oz which is the top of the rating. The Mansfield was light. Definitely a full step less power compared to the trapcaster. Like ranger jockey, its a little light for me as an all around crankbait rod and I don't carry two. If I was fishing the little cranks more often and never went above a DT6 (or fished lipless) then I can see it being a great small crankbait rod. But I think 3/8 would be pushing the top end and I wouldn't want it around cover.
  19. I agree on the wakeboats. I fortunately don't have to deal with that outside of 1 lake which I've mostly stopped fishing. They are in fact designed to throw wake and if the lake is big enough (wide enough) then they will dissipate some as long as they stay toward the middle. It's a multiuse lake so that's the price to pay for being on it. The cigar boats on that lake are the ones that get me. Its only 2700 acres and a Y shape with a couple big long coves/fingers. If you just look at the main lake portions you can do a 5 mile loop from the bottom, up the right side, across a channel to the left, and back down. In a boat doing 70+ mph you've covered the entire lake in 5 minutes. I've been buzzed at 50' by one blasting down the shoreline (I was a short cast from shore). And they have limited visibility because they are usually trimmed bow up. Not sure who you're referring to specifically but I don't call this invisible:
  20. If the buss bar works fro you then great. That's a simple solution you have in hand. I had a similar issue with my amped battery bolts when I added some componentry on the AP. I went to Ace and got matching stainless bolts (took the factory ones with me) and it works great.
  21. Get a longer m8 bolt…
  22. The motor doesn’t know if you’re on the boat so it’s going to keep going. If you’re using a remote controlled model, keep the remote around your neck if that’s a worry. The boat shouldn’t get out of range for the remote too quickly.
  23. Do you mean true flipping, aka long rod and not even using the reel really? It doesn’t sound like it but that’s a specific rod. im going to assume you don’t mean flipping but mean pitching to cover. Not sure what you consider short or long and what weight of bait you’re talking about. That said, id suggest a falcon Cara amistad (7’3” 3/8- 1 1/2oz heavy fast) as a starting point. Mine is a 1/2- 3/4 jig type rod. I’ll pitch an ounce weight with a chunk of plastic into heavy grass and pads (not quite punching but heavy pitching). It will do heavier if you want and its rated to 1.5 oz. I’ve fished mine with 50 braid and 20 lb big game. Both good choices that fish a little differently but both fish well.
  24. are you a Daiwa guy? I find that for me there is a clear difference between the two and can see why some would have a clear preference.
  25. the guy in the video had one and it didn’t matter. Lots of kayak guys do run them. I don’t think that’s the answer though. If you can’t see a bright orange 12’ kayak with a 200# guy a couple hundred feet in front of you then you don’t have good enough visibility. If you can’t see me in time to avoid me by a reasonable amount of distance so you’re not throwing heavy wake on me or blowing out the spot I’m fishing then you’re going too fast. I have full nav lights on mine since it’s motorized but I rarely use them. Except if I’m on a busier lake. Then no matter time of day I’ve got front and back nav lights on. pretty sure that’s Travis shearer. He’s in the old town groups that I’m in. He fishes for Kokanee salmon primarily in Oregon and Washington. Pretty good guy it seems and certainly brings in the fish. He’s got Kokanee trolling from a kayak down pat.
