  1. I bought my oldest son a BPS Micro several years ago, and it's a pretty sweet little pump gun. It's very smooth operating, and in my opinion, much more stylish than an 870 or a Mossberg 500. I'm sure it will perform as well as the next gun shooting slugs, but I don't know because we didn't have the slug barrel. Did you get the wood stock or composite?
  2. I like that! Here's one of my favorites: "You do not rise to the occasion in combat, you sink to the level of your training." - LTC Dave Grossman
  3. I like to measure success based on happiness. If one is happy in a low income occupation, they are more successful than a rich man who is miserable, right? With that said, it makes me happy that I can provide my children with things that I never had when I was growing up. I also have some fairly expensive hobbies (bass boats, hunting trips, etc.) that make me happy. So if success is based on happiness, and happiness is tied to income, then money=success. Call me crazy.
  4. I switched from chicken liver to beef liver years ago. Beef liver can be cut into cubes and will stay on your hook with no problem. I haven't noticed any difference in my catch rate.
  5. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/How-Higher-Education-Affects-usnews-1001103912.html?x=0 Here are a couple of quotes from the above link for those of you who don't want to read the entire article: "Those holding bachelor's degrees earn about $2.27 million over their lifetime, while those with master's, doctoral, and professional degrees earn $2.67 million, $3.25 million, and $3.65 million, respectively." "Those with bachelor's degrees, no matter the field, earn vastly more than counterparts with some college ($1.55 million in lifetime earnings) or a high school diploma ($1.30 million lifetime), indicating that no matter the level of attainment or the field of study, simply earning a four-year degree is often integral to financial success later in life."
  6. Because it's the preseason top ten, and they're ranked #7. If they finish undefeated, and there are multiple other undefeated teams, you are probably correct. But if they are one of two or less unbeaten teams, they will play in the championship game. If they take a loss, they're through.
  7. Will someone please start another thread comparing NFL to NCAA football? This one was meant for us college football fans to talk a little thrash about the upcoming season.
  8. I've used both. I'd start with the #7 shot on opening day, and go to #6 after that.
  9. College football is less than three weeks away. Who do you think will walk away with the crystal football at the end of the season? The poll contains the USA Today Top Ten, but if you're predicting someone else, let us know. Keep in mind that neither Auburn or Oregon made the preseason top ten last year.
  10. I was getting a Herter's catalog every year back in the '90s. It was almost entirely waterfowl hunting gear to include their own line of decoys. Is this the same one you're talking about?
  11. I watched an Iraqi Army Soldier buy a Euphrates River carp from a fisherman, cut a chunk off with a leatherman, and then roast it on a stick over a burning trash barrel. He offered me some, but I politely declined.

  14. I'll help out however I can.
  15. I suggest you get one of these. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM4964911801P?prdNo=1#reviewsWrap I have used one while bank fishing for years, and I really like it. It is probably more comfortable to sit on than the bucket you're currently using, the shoulder strap makes it easy to carry, and it has a built in five gallon cooler to carry your drinks and/or fish. The pockets on the outside are designed to carry a box of shotgun shells, and they come in handy for storing items such as sun screen and insect repellent. The cooler can also be used as a minnow bucket if you like to use live bait.
  16. You need to do this even if it's not required by law in your state.
  17. I had a koi pond in my yard in Texas. She would spend hours pointing those fish.
  18. Yeah, my pointer spends more time in my boat than in the field. She's a little too spastic to be a good house dog, but I let her in anyway. It's probably a good thing I'm single.
  19. A little off subject, but that reminds me of the time an exgirlfriend asked me what I'd do if I had to spend $100,000 in a day. I told her that I'd buy a $60,000 boat and a $40,000 mobile home. Our relationship didn't last long after that. I don't understand women either. Anyway, for waterfowl, I have a Browning Maxus, and I love it. For all other upland game, I have an ancient Browning Auto 5, and I love it too. I've gone through countless semiautos, pumps, and doubles, but I think I've settled on these two shotguns for a while.
  20. I know what you mean. Growing up in AZ and OK, there were quail all over the place. As a kid, I would hunt with my single shot 20 gauge and no dog, and I still killed more quail than I ever have since. Nowadays, I take a roadtrip to the Oklahoma panhandle once a year. It's about a 22 hour drive, but it's worth it to me to get into wild birds.
  21. Are there any other bird hunters here?

I think you may be confusing it with a different model. The Winchester Model 100 is an autoloading rifle, not a shotgun.

Same here. I got it for my 10th birthday. I shot my first quail (and many others) with it, and I still have it to this day. I sure wish the quail numbers were as strong as they were back then.
  24. It looks like a shiner to me.
  25. GrundleLove, did you read that article?
