Ok, so I have to be down in Montgomery tomorrow for a NASO Summit (national association of sports officials) for my hs baseball umpiring. Anyway, I didn’t want to get up and buttcrack dawn and drive the 3 hrs. So, I came down tonight. Bonus for that is I stopped at Bass Pro in Prattville, AL. One I haven’t been to. So, since I hadn’t been there, I needed to make sure their point of sale system was working correctly. Mostly stuff for my bfs setup.

Love em. Saves me money.

Just a few things from Marks today. As an aside, they had the tourney on and Jacob Walker was in 6th place (Jacob and works at Marks)… Anyway, a couple of the 4.8” bodegas in Green Pumpkin Juice and Wild Lava Craw. Gonna try punching the hydrilla with them. A package of 5.8” flick shake in watermelon red. Got some Zappu inch wacky I want to try these out on . Lastly a micro-max with some 3.5” spunk Shad for my bfs setup…

You know how cashless a society we are now. I just use tap to pay and claim ignorance. I got my CC privileges turned back on today but “don’t go f’ing crazy please!”

Got my new grass piece flex’s in yesterday as shown in the bait monkey thread. Tied one on and went to hydrilla land (also known as Lake Guntersville). Well, the hydrilla was still there, but man was the eel grass bad today. Top it off with the eel grass “cutter” out in the main lake chopping/pulling up eel grass and the wind blowing made fishing tough! All the eel grass was up against the banks making casts back to the bank crummy. The flex I have is 5/8oz, but the eel grass was so thick, it wouldn’t fall through. So, I just fished more boathouses/docks instead. Rough, rough day. Hot, windy, etc… Anyway, the flex is the doo-doo. I first had it paired with a Sakamata Shad, but I didn’t like the action I was getting so I switched to a spunk Shad. I was throwing violent gill with a frosted purple spunk Shad, killer looking combo. The flex swims straight and true out of the package. Casts a country and city mile combined. As soon as it picks up a piece of grass, you feel it. One quick rip and you’re back in business. Favorite retrieve today was a yo-yo due to all the eel grass everywhere. I could yo-yo it over the eel grass and it would slip through the tops of the hydrilla. Love the bait, tough day of fishing though. Last cast of the day was a waste cast just to get my line level again. Threw it between two boathouses and just started retrieving. Had a follower at the kayak, so I just hit my thumb bar and it dropped about 1/8” and was immediately thumped. Shortest fish fight of my life. Lasted about 10 seconds. 18” a little over 3lbs. Only fish of the day. Had an epic top water blowup on a hollow body frog (on top of the eel grass mind you), but as so often as I do, I became impatient and jerked the frog out of the fishes mouth before she closed it. It would have been a nice fish to boat. Other than that, dead day. Too hot, got overheated, left and came home.

Neat to learn about sunshine bass. I thought they were the same thing as a wiper/hybrid striped bass. While technically alike, the difference between the sunshine and the wiper is the parents. The sunshine’s mother is a white and the father is a striped. The wiper is different. Its mother is a striped bass while the father is a white bass. The sunshine is sterile too. Interesting facts. My opinion is to bypass the tools and bands and suck and just hand tie the skirts. You only need floral wire at most.

Will do. I threw off one of my original 3/8 last week. I’m hoping this 5/8 and it being a flex, gets down through the tops of the hydrilla better. The 3/8 is awesome above them, it runs through them as well. That’s why I’m hoping the 5/8 being 1/4oz heavier will help… I have a Vatallion and I always forget I have it. Thank you for reminding me! I love that bait. I fish it more like an oversized lipless than I do a swimbait. It has produced for me.

Respect bro, mad respect. I wouldn’t get out of my kayak in 60 degree water for a Gancraft 230 magnum jointed claw. Mostly because I didn’t pay for it. Had I paid for it, I would still be there looking. It was a “fast sink” which in my opinion translates to “immediate” sink.

The first cast out this evening when I twitched it was like magic.

I fished my BFS tonight for about 20 mins. One small fish on a Plopper60. Threw the hook on a jump. First time hooking up on suck light tackle. At one point during the 3 second fight, I thought “man, this guy is swimming just fast enough to offset my drag”. It’s like the fish was sitting still in the water. Thought “I’ll switch to the Karashi”. Tied it on and had some fun. No fish, but first time using it. What are your retrieves? The only one I know of is a twitch to make it walk the dog sub-surface. Are there others that I’m missing?
