I need to get some new jig heads to throw 2.5” mayor swimbaits on. This is UL/BFS. Have been using the keitech 1/16 super round tungsten. Down to one left. Wondering if that jig heads tie on eye (90 degrees to the hook point) is “right? I noticed today when I let it fall in clear water, it helicoptered down. What are you guys using?

I’m pretty much straight braid on everything. I have Izorline co-poly on my big swimbait setup. I run flouro leader on my BFS.

I said that last week. It didn’t last. Took my granddaughter today, she’s almost 2. I’m down 8 jig heads and about 8 swimbaits. All in I’m down about $10. Worth every penny!

Well, in my defense, Mrs Smirak told me to buy a new reel since I couldn’t repair that one. I had to stand strong and say no. That is until @bulldog1935 started showing me all the bling an older ambassadeur reel can become!

I had one replaced/upgraded (from Mojo Bass to Victory) and they didn’t require anything from me. @MickD and I have talked about this very issue. Mine broke about 4” from the tip (just the tip - IYKYK). I still haven’t done anything with that broken rod yet ONLY because I don’t have a reel for it. I have a couple of blanks here already that I know will have a section that I can use. I don’t have a problem with a 2 pc rod either. My BFS rod is a 2 pc and once I “assemble” it, it’s pretty rock solid. I too used to shy away from a 2 pc rod from my experiences back in the 80s/90s. This is the first 2 pc I have owned since then. I don’t have a problem with it.

So, I have a pre-Rap 13 Fishing reel that I bought for like $20. Had it all disassembled the other day and lost a spring. Like nowhere to be found. Looked on rapala’s website for another one. Nothing. Google. Nothing. Contacted Rapala customer service and asked. They said that I could send it in for service and the service fee covered everything, including any missing parts. Only problem was the service fee was like $40. Double what I paid. I told the CS guy that and told him not to worry about it. He said he’d look around and see if he could find anything and to give him my address if he did. Didn’t think anymore about it thinking whatever. About 3 days later I got an OVERNIGHT UPS package that contained a spring. Probably $10 to send a $0.10 spring.

I said I wasn’t going to buy anymore tackle this year. But, I had a $5 off $5 or more coupon from academy. I’m not going to throw away a free $5. Me and the tackle gods (AKA Mrs Smirak) talked it over and since it was virtually free, I bought a dirty jigs swim jig. No pics. We decided that since it was virtually free, it doesn’t count against my “no more 2025 tackle” rule.

I tote my ss127 in the back of my Titan. I think it’s like a 6’ bed maybe? I don’t use an extender. I load it stern first. At the boat ramp, I put my Titan step down, grab the stern handle and lift and drag it into my bed. Then, I pull off the ramp and go about securing it in my bed. I use straps, not ratchet straps, and go through the scupper holes to my “loops” in the bed of my truck. That’s it. Have about 4’ sticking out. Leave my flag on all the time.

We sure should hope so. Kestler, for example only, sends their specs to the Chinese company. They don’t just say “make a reel that looks like this”. They spec the entire thing out, material, tolerances, specs, etc. Like I’ve said in other posts, Offshore manufacturing is as good as, if not better than some US manufacturing for certain things. That’s just the nature of the world right now. For example, on a project I managed, I had to have US provided steel sent to China for production of the product. That was a flow down from my customer. I couldn’t allow the manufacturer in china to pick what they wanted.
