  1. Did Randy make this thread? Beating the FFS threads to death.
  2. You can’t put a price on this! I wish I would have had grandparents to do this with when I was younger. Time to get another one hooked! You will teach him life long lessons. It’s more than about the fishing.
  3. @A-Jay the queens of the susky only seem to show themselves certain times of year. The spots don’t seem to be near as important as time.
  4. @TnRiver46 yeah we need about 1.5’ to get on and off plane. It can be pretty nerve wrecking at times for that. When I see I’m getting shallow I dump the throttle wide open and hope for the best.
  5. I’ll drop a pin on the boat ramps I use. You go figure it out from there. In fact I’ve posted some pics on here of very well known landmarks. You may have a great day you may not. You also may not come back with a boat in one piece. The choice is yours and yours alone.
  6. Everytime I go fishing I’m like a chicken with my head cut off. Even if I had a check list I’d never follow it because well that’s how I am. Swing for the fences and hope for the best. like @gimruis I am always fuels up before hand.
  7. I only do a few short trips a month the way it is now. Doing it all the time also felt like a job to me. I fish 3-5 hours then go home happy and relaxed. On the flip side if I want to call off work a few times a year to go fish I will. I know I’m going to work more days in my life than I ever will fish. I am young know I’ll never retire so why not enjoy today when tomorrow isn’t promised. I do not recommend putting yourself in any immoral, poor financial, or marital situation to do this.
  8. @MN Fisher technically all stainless is low carbon steel it’s the 10.5% or more of chromium that makes it corrosion resistant. Not all low carbon steel is stainless though. low to mild carbon steel is usually classified as up to 80k tensile strength. A36 low carbon mild steel being the highest.
  9. @TnRiver46 I hit way more going slow than on plane. I also suck up more off the bottom. I can’t steer and I can only run in 3” if I’m on plane. Jets only make their money in the last 800rpm too. Don’t get me wrong when I hit on plane it sucks. @padon it’s not best case to fish that way but low water makes the fish spread out so much.
  10. @MN Fisher what is pure stainless? It’s impossible. There is different grades of stainless but no “pure stainless” 304 and 316L are the two most common grades. There is chromium and nickel in ALL stainless. It’s an alloy.
  11. @MN Fisher so how is using a stainless bolt going to avoid this when everything else is aluminum? It’s above the waterline. 304 stainless is 304. Doesn’t change if it’s a rivet or bolt. I agree if he has access rivets are not the best. I am just confused that a bolt won’t cause it but, a rivet will.
  12. If there isn’t electrical current running through it how will this happen? Also aluminum with stainless rivets get used all the time in the fleet truck world.
  13. I was under the assumption they were only into the aluminum deck and that there was not wood below it.
  14. @padon I’m not a huge fan of drifting long stretches. I feel like I’m always missing something. That is just my opinion.
  15. Have you considered using stainless steel rivets?
  16. My expectations are always high but, a 2 at 10 is a 10 at 2. All joking aside I do get frustrated when things do not go as planned or I thought I would knock it out of the park. Then I have to remind myself of the things I mentioned and think boy it want that bad just not what I planned.
  17. Seems like the forgetting your lunch and the camera malfunction are the worst things. You caught some fish. You came back safely. All wins in my book. Even if I get skunked it’s a good day as long as I get home safely and my equipment in one piece.
  18. @padon yeah I get much smaller fish.a which is more the struggle than anything. I have to change tactics and drift more rather than pull up and camp.
  19. @ol'crickety that’s why I very much enjoy this forum. Like minded people. Egos are put aside. Everyone is willing to help to trying to out do the other.
  20. @Glenn it got really annoying when I used Facebook and musky fished. No one could be happy someone caught a big fish and there was never anyway the fish in the picture could be that big. Before I quit using it I stopped posting any pictures of fish. Here is my equation. Cast, retrieve, repeat. Tried and true formula can’t go wrong.
  21. You’re going to end up a boat you thought you should have bought yet! Kidding When I used my Coleman scanoe it was much heavier and awkward than it looks like it should have been. I totally get anything to not have to muscle it around.
  22. I run ultegras. You can get them for right around $100 right now. They are great reels nice and smooth. They are great reels. The little bait monkey on my shoulder tells me to get the Stradic I have yet to cave in. I can’t tell you all the specs. I can’t prove or disprove one is better than the other. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy either I can tell you that. I am just weird about having all my stuff relatively the same. That way everytime I pick something up I know exactly how it should feel and what to expect. So if I would get one stradic then I would want them all to be that. Which the bait monkey would love.
  23. You have a kayak cast parallel to the dock and fish that 11-20ft. ironically too when the water gets low the fish spread out. When the water is higher the more fish can and will go into an area.
  24. The issue with summer for me is generally low clear water. Probably why I struggle.
