  1. In my area ( great lakes, Ohio) probably not that much. Depending on actual condition mabey 2K..when we put time, money and labor into a project, we often feel like it is worth more than it really is.... Bottom line is...it is only worth what someone is willing to pay !! Good luck..
  2. Where does the 200 hp outboard mount ?? Hope you can haul that without loading and unloading....
  3. Owned both at the same time...each has its advantages !! Enjoyed my kayak but was much more work ... The boat was much less work to go fishing or joyriding, but, there were times the kayak was great fun. Bottom line here.....I still have my boat but the kayak is gone...
  4. My fix to stop loosing rods was to get a bigger boat ! My kayak was fun, but to much work. My 16' aluminum is far less work and much more fun.
  5. AGM are going up un price as everyone switches over to Lifepo4 batteries. The fewer being made....the more expensive they will become !! When my AGM's wear out in the next year or so, I will move to the Lifepo4, one battery will replace two gp 31 agm's in my boat. The added cost will only be a few bucks as the lipo is comming down and the AGM is going up !
  6. Check to see if you have any marine salvage yards in your area, while they are few and far between, they rarely advertise so you might find one out there.
  7. I have tried them on a few ocassions and found them to be uncomfortable....I have torn rotator cuffs in my shoulders and the weight ( yes they are heavier even though less bulky) and that weight bothers my shoulders. Didn't realize the going off in the rain factor...makes them even less likable for me....
  8. Get your phone out and start taking pics of the speeders, make sure you get the registration numbers in the pics. Contact the DNR and an attorney....boat/ jet ski owners are fully responsible for their wakes and any damage or injury they cause. With pics, it is perfectly legal to make a formal complaint and or citizens arrest. Sometines an example needs to be set, your local sherriff should back you up...
  9. Generic can be questionable, buy Merc makes controls everyday but probably not cheap. From what I have heard, they are having a tough time keeping up with production of outboards. My local dealer tells me big motors, over 250 hp can have up to a year delivery time. Smaller 40-100 hp can have a three month backlog, so control parts could be the same.
  10. Most outboards have a fuel pump to suck fuel out of the tank, a vent is needed so the tank doesn't collapse. I always kept my vent open so the tank wouldn't expand in heat, bever had a moisture issue, but also use a few oz of stabil in my fuel. There are contraptions that are supposed to eliminate venting for the tree huggar crowds, but I understand they don't work well and most folks convert them. In my experience, most vents are designed to not leak and I have never had one leak fuel.
  11. We went out to watch July 4 fireworks, beautifull night, until it was over and time to go back in. Many of the pontoon boats had long bright strings of led lights running the length of there logs. It was terrible for the rest of us boaters as it killed our night vision !! Numerous CG, and local sherriff boats said nothing to them...watched a few very close calls of accidents due to loss of night vision from other boaters. Many boaters were yelling at them to kill the leds, as people could not see, but none were turned off !! If you want a few leds inside your boat then fine, but lighting up your boat like a christmas tree is extremely hazardous to other boaters.
  12. Been raised on Lake Erie in Ohio all my 70 years, reading the weather and watching the forecast is far mire important than any boat or boating experience. People have all kinds of options to know in advance what the weather will be. If you plan on being out in rough weather then plan on having a boat that will handle it, and if you have a boat that will handle rough weather, you need to learn howvto drive it, boats don't drive themselves !!! In my 70 years on the big lake, never had a storm just pop up, I always know the weather ahead of time and if it will exceed the capacity of my boat and skills, I don't go out...plain and simple. Numerous folks at the ramp claim " well I thought I would chance it". Chancing it is never a good idea !! Yes, I have pushed my limits on a number of ocassions, probably foolish to do so, how much are you willing to gamble ???
  13. Can't fool mother nature, is still true to this day !! Look at the billions we will spend on trying to stop so called global warming....when we should be learning how to cope with it !!
  14. Never caught a chick fish !!....lol
  15. I found my rods sliding a bit with two straps, added the third strap in the middle and no mire sliding rods, even in choppy seas.
  16. One reason my boat spends its off time on a trailer in my barn !! Only takes 10-15 min tops to launch and load....back in the day, we had a boat hoist with a roof, but if bad weather was forecast, we would still pull it out.
  17. Actually, I nade the same setup on my boat with bungee cord kit. Same reasons you did, mine have held 5 rods with no issues towing or running. I do have three straps crossing over the rods. Actually put my own rods there when I can, much quicker to get to them !!
  18. I used to have an old Johnson 30 hp outboard motor that did not have a charging system. Just a group size 24 six volt battery would last me weeks if not a full month before needing charged, and I used running lights and radio often. Doesn't take much battery for starting a small engine...
  19. Hey, to each his own, just rather shocked at these prices....gues I am getting old...
  20. I bought a 16' aluminum bass boat and 40 hp motor in mint condition for much less....ouch
  21. Check around for small repair shops that work on boat motors, many have old stock laying around from junk motors. Any area with lots of bodies of water will have small shops around.
  22. Might as well get into a side console or other bass boat, probably cheaper, that is well beyond the kayak concept in my opinion...looks awesome, but...
  23. Had these on my 14' tinnie and thought they were very comfortable. Availiable in higher back vwrsion which is what I had. To get really good comfortable big man seats, be prepared to drop big bucks ! On my current boat they are over 300 each, but well made and comfy!
  24. When you jerry rig the speed controls that will, in all probability void the warranty !!
  25. Keeo in mind to check your state regs....many states reqyire a different reg if there is a motor on a canoe! No longer hand powered once an electric troll motor is added, worth checking into....
