First Boat / New Member - 1993 Bass Tracker Tournament V17 - 60hp Johnson
Nice boat, I have it's cousin, a Sylvan model, but mine has a 40 hp and she does 31 mph when trimmed on spot !! Get chargers for all your onboard batteries then tie them all into one plug. I have one charger for two group 31 trolling motor batts and another for the group 31 house battery and another battery and charger for the start battery. One plug and all stay charged.. I have a Lowrance HD with down scan, fanciest fish finder I ever owned, but...do go shopping and try them all. Any good TCW3 oil will work, I have used Pennzoil for more years than I have fingers and toes with never an issue. Post some more pics and enjoy !!!

Another kayaker killed
We recently had a canoe flip over in cold water and heavy current, one did not make it to shore !! No life jackets !! Cant understand why people don't look at their surroundings and prepare !!!

Will 9.9 kicker work on this. Please help!
If your boat can handle the 9.9, you will be fine...the question is IF it will handle it on top of the 40 hp. I have a 16' aluminum side console with a 40 hp Merc ( boat is rated for 80 hp) and I have a 2.2 hp kicker and it works!! Use it with my bow mount electric for trolling....the 2.2 is locked straight ahead and the bow mount is for steering from the remote control...works great !!! What is the boats max rated HP ??

Boat Accident on Falls Lake
What is wrong with just steering away to avoid a collision ?? When I boat, I don't wait to see, I make my move away from danger asap... Gotta be on the lookout constantly when on the water!!

Boat Accident on Falls Lake
Lucky it was a glancing blow or they would be swimming! Years back my 18' aluminum boat struck a barrel submerged slightly while on plane, the bottom pushed up about two feet into the cockpit, the kids had minor injuries from being tossed forward. The point is....when my insurance adjuster came out, he stated...be glad you didn't have a fiberglass boat !! In his years of experience he found the glass hulls typically shatter and they sink on impact....where aluminum hulls typically cave in or dent but normally stay afloat. That convinced me to go aluminum only, not trash talking glass boats, but definetly something to think about !!

ID/OD for plastic tee for fuel line
Primer recirculation hose, didn't think about that, my mind was in the main fuel line....never to old to learn!

Electric outboards, anyone gonna get one?
As far as considering one now...why???

ID/OD for plastic tee for fuel line
Cant tell from your diagram but still sounds way to small for a fuel line. I would check your setup closely to see if they are really vacuum lines.

YEEEEEHAAAAW!!
Lack of advertising is their issue, how many ads for there OB's do you see?? Many dont even know they make boat engines...

YEEEEEHAAAAW!!
Can almost feel the spray in my face!!!! Oh...never mind, my dog just sneezed....

boat porpoising
Dont need to do 40 to porpoise...have done it at 25 mph....any boat that can actually get up on pkane can have a porpoising issue from to much trim or weight balance.!!!

ID/OD for plastic tee for fuel line
Are these fuel lines or vacuum lines? Can't say I have saw fuel lines that small on bigger outboards...

ID/OD for plastic tee for fuel line
I hate to buy stuff on line when fit is critical...a couple extra dollars is well worth haveing the correct fit !!
-
ID/OD for plastic tee for fuel line
On my Merc 40 hp outboard the fuel lines are 3/8" from the tank, marked right on the hose...inside the engine, connecting the carbs appears to be 5/16" as they are slightly smaller than tank hose. My last OMC 40 hp was a 5/16" fuel line from the tank, you may want to check those dimensions again.

Trailer tires?
I never use out of the way ramps, and the ramps that I do use have a camp ground next door with security cameras.. I may have to drive a little further but a much better/ safer place to launch. My padlocks may not stop a serious thief, but he will probably take the next one over that has no locks!! I ger a good discount from my ins company because my boat is stored inside and because I use locks on all my stuff! Never had an issue on a claim, only so many steps you can take to prevent theft....

Trailer tires?
I have padlocks on my spare, my kicker motor and my hitch/ coupler lock...all the same key !!! Saves a lot of time looking for that one key for each one. Yes, I do open/ close and lube each lock when put away for winter and sometimes thru the season.

Charging Batteries - Leave them plugged in or not?
I plug mine in after an outing, all my built in chargers have a maintenence mode, so I could just leave them plugged in. But I don't, instead, after a couple days I unolug then monitor with a digital meter just in case. If I know when my next trip will be, I plug back in the night or day before. My batteries from my motorhome, side x side, mower, and other toys spend the winter on maintainers, and during the busy season they get charged when needed. Must be doing something right as my batteries typically exceed average life expectencies by a bunch. As long as that happens I will keep doing what I do.

Bass boat on boat lift
Only if the wood is pressure treated, plain ole regular 2 by material wont hurt anything. If you can get your hands on an old piece of fire hose, that stuff lasts forever !!

Steel piling in boat lift. Protection?
Pics would help...

Alligators and Small Boats
Might have been foolish enough to try in my younger days, but I have gotten smarter as I have gotten older!! I enjoy watching the swamp people tv show and have been on swamp tours in Lousiana, great experience, but in a much larger boat !! Today I know to watch it in tv not actually go out in a small boat, some experiences are better viewed than actually participate in !!

Bass boat on boat lift
Back in the 60's had a boat lift. Ours used cables covered in hoses with the final hose being an old fire hose. Used these for more than 12 years with no issues. We used to gather up old hoses from various places, ones that would fit inside each other with the last outside hose being the fire hose. One strap/ cable near the front and one as close to the rear as reasonably possible. We had four lifts in total with glass, wood and aluminum boats in these lifts, never an issue. Todays lifts look quite heavy duty and complicated....and expensive !! However, if I were to keep my boat docked, it would definetly be in a lift !!

Eyeopening Trip to Bass Pro Shop
Back in rhe mid 80's I smoked a pipe and an ocassional cigar. Quite cigarettes quite a few years earlier. While sitting around the dinner table my teen kids ask why I smoked but didn't want them to do it?? Figured it was time to quit, so after dinner threw everything out!!! Repainted inside the house to remove smoke smell. Stopped cold turkey and never went back. Bought myself an expensive toy that I always wanted, with the promise to myself that if I went back to smoking, the toy would be sold....great incentive to never go back!! What I now save from not smoking pays for my boat and fishing trips!!

Eyeopening Trip to Bass Pro Shop
I graduated in 1968 and bought a new Javelin high performance car. Running Sunoco blue 260 premium racing fuel at .349 a gallon !!! Pumped my own fuel but they would check the oil and clean the windshield !

Bass boat on boat lift
If the support on the trailer bunk is good, why wouldn't that same spot be good on the lift ??

Thinking of selling my kayak
Just the opposite here, arthritus has set in and peddling, paddling just doesnt work anymore, while I thoroughly enjoyed my kayak, my 16' tinnie is far less work and easier on the 73 yr old body. To each his own, time can change everything !!
