  1. That’s what I thought too.
  2. One time I made a bad cast to a Dock with a Texas rig craw, started reeling back then boom a 4 pounder hammered it while it was going across the surface. I never thought of using a craw or worm that way, but it’s something unique.
  3. What’s your opinion on aluminum gears? Do they still hold up? Thanks for responding to my thread again
  4. Yeah but the 21 zillion that we all love from Japan also has aluminum gears, no one has had problems with those I don’t think.
  5. Yeah idk. I guess I should just buy both and find out.
  6. No drag, so then where is the give in the system? I mean all that force setting the hook has to go somewhere right?
  7. But this is how Daiwa defines the hyper armed housing and it doesn’t say anything about aluminum side plate on the reels page- The HYPER DRIVE DESIGNconcept comprises a combination of different manufacturing techniques, which considerably improve the functioning and the lifespan of a baitcasting reel. HYPER ARMED HOUSING – a distortion-proof metal frame (magnesium, aluminum) that permanently houses the gear unit in a safe way within the reel body. Not to argue, I just feel like Daiwa isn’t being very clear about it. Same with the dual supported pinion thing on some of their reels
  8. Did you ever confirm if it’s an aluminum side plate? Trying to figure out which to buy. Also does the tatula 100 have brass gears as well?
  9. Yeah I think 8:1 is the best gear ratio for what I’m trying to do. Where do you see it online? And thanks.
  10. Do you know if it has the aluminum side plate? It’s unclear on Daiwa’s website. I feel like that would really add in durability. People have complained about tatula getting rough retrieve before. Although maybe the hyperdrive gears would help that.
  11. Which one would you go for given they are around the same price for me?
  12. Yeah I think I will get the regular tat 100. You say that because it’s less forgiving since it’s tuned for distance right?
  13. Would a tatula elite be good? Found one on eBay for 150 brand new.
  14. I was almost set on the new tatula 150, but I generally don’t like bigger and heavier reels. I loved the new 100 frame in store but the 150 looks like it has a 200 size frame judging by the weight at 7.9 ounces being the same as the 200. Maybe I should try a tatula elite? Although those have been out a long time now. I just wanted to try at least 1 more daiwa after how much I like my zillion. I could probably get 2 reels if they’re not too expensive.
  15. So which reel do you go with for the longer casting braking system and the aluminum handle side plate
  16. I’m looking for a new reel to fish frogs. How much do aluminum side plates or a dual supported pinion matter? What reels do you recommend? I’m willing to buy from Japan if there are better options. I’ve been looking at some tatula and shimanos.
  17. Like how early? Normally I get to my spots as early as I can… would like to go around 6 or so if possible. For my next fishing trip, Friday afternoon which reservoir do you think I should fish to have the best chance at having a good day? No sonar, so not sure if hunting run would be too difficult. Last year I went to hunting run on a cloudy day and caught a few in an hour or 2 just beating the bank with a soft plastic worm.
  18. Hey I wanted to ask you does lake Mooney really not open til 8? That seems kind of late, getting into summer it would be worse for the morning bite right
  19. Hey I’m trying to find more info on lakes in fredericksburg, any advice from your trips?
  20. Should I go to hunting run, ni river, Mooney again, or just go to ponds where I know I can get a few easy bites? Friday afternoon btw it’s gonna be cloudy it says
  21. Thanks I need to pay more attention next time. I will try to snag some and find the line where it begins. If it starts in around 5 feet of water or so, maybe I just thought the bottom was darker because of the drop off but it was actually where the grass started. Or maybe it was down there but just barely growing since it’s still kind of early.
  22. Since I have a kayak and no sonar, would I be better off trying ni or hunting run next? This may sound dumb, but what depth would the grass be growing in?
  23. Looks like that’s about an hour and 20 minutes away from me. That’s interesting because I didn’t visually see any grass. How deep did the grass start? I saw some spots that looked like empty beds, and I saw a couple that I thought were on beds but were not really locked on one spot. When I casted on them they had no reaction. The last 2 nights before I went were cold, which maybe pushed them off the beds? It’s really weird that I didn’t see any of the grass. I could see down about 5 feet
  24. Thanks for the feedback. I was limited to the bank, but I got a kayak last fall. Started off with smaller lakes because it’s easier to cover the water and break it down, and you don’t have to be as stealthy in the dirty water. Still want to learn these clear ****** reservoirs because I know people catch a lot of fish and big ones.
