Leader or no leader?
Outside of frogging and punching, always a leader, but i personally never run a long one. One meter long is usually what i use for my fluoro leaders.

Is rod/reel aesthetics super important to you?
Absolutely. Especially when the item is expensive, then everything is taken into consideration. Early 2000s Megabass rods were the best thing the fishing industry has ever seen😎

WANT a new JDM reel…
Yea, the used ones can be had for real cheap on yahoo. I thought you've seen them in new condition in stores in Japan, that would've been weird to see em this cheap.

WANT a new JDM reel…
Are these prices in used condition? That's pretty cheap. Would never personally take one over a zillion, they're too heavy and micro module is micro module, but they're certainly awesome bang per buck reels to buy.

WANT a new JDM reel…
As a Zillion shill, i must, at all costs, suggest a Zillion, especially the HD version. Outside of that, very impressed with the 24 Met DC, so that could be another quality option. I heard Bantams can be had for super cheap directly in those small shops, so a mini tank is a good option as well.

Daiwa Zillion SV TW
Grab the Zillion HD and forget about everything else. They're still only $265 on Amazon JP. In this price range, nothing is even close to it.

fighting a larger bass with spinning gear is fun.
I wouldn't say spinning gear, but light gear in general. During smallies spawn, i use a light or an ultra light setup with 3" easy shiners, and it feels like you caught a 20lb+ musky, especially in the rivers where i mostly fish. Haven't used any spinning setups for over 10 years, and ain't missing em even a tiny bit.

Baitcaster already damaged
Just take a pic of how it should look while assembled, and its really is not difficult.

Which braid to try from YGK?
I plan to use it on the SLP1010 spool inside the zillion and the og steez. These spools aren't that deep.

Which braid to try from YGK?
This good? Interesting. I ignored most JDM fishing line because 832 is great, so i told myself its not even worth trying JDM stuff. I've used a bunch of 10lb (especially the sufix 832) on baitcasters, and if you fill your spool very tightly from the beginning, it doesn't dig that much, and i usually don't pull snags by tightening the drag, so line digging is not much of a issue. I did check the Upgrade as well, and if i can't find the Fulldrag one for a decent price, this is most likely what i'll try as my first YGK.

Which braid to try from YGK?
Looking for #20 (i saw they have something like #22, which would be fine), and i do use a fluoro leader at all time. This would be for my general purpose bank spank setup.

Which braid to try from YGK?
Want to try YKG braid since its a brand i've always ignored, but have heard a lot of good things. Right now the one that has been suggested most to me is the YGK X-braid Fulldrag. Would this be a good option, or is there something else?

I am venting
If they aren't coming out, and you feel like you will deform the screw head, they're 100% locktited. Just heat the screw with a hairdryer for 15sec, and they'll be very easy to unscrew, but make sure to not blast hot air on plastic side plates, these can deform.

Sometimes a fishing rod, that shouldn’t, feels better?
I don't remember this happening. The opposite, tho, it sure happened, and it was with the Shimano Zodias. What a garbage stick. I expected so much more.

Is flourocarbon worth the headache?
To me its only worth for squarebills and jerkbaiting. All other technics i prefer braid to a fluoro leader.

TheReelTest trolls the new Tatula 100 into oblivion. Simply disgusting. I cannot believe it!
Isn't it you?🙃Someone on here told me that it is you lol. And what am i fanboy about? I hope calling Abu out for their inferior products sold at a premium isn't seen as fanboyish.

TheReelTest trolls the new Tatula 100 into oblivion. Simply disgusting. I cannot believe it!
I know that many of you have already seen it, but if you haven't, it's real something. Prime example of a shimano fanboy that tries to down a reel that threatens shimano low end, all of this for no income from Shimano.😱 Uses the 2nd setting on the mag dial out of 20 adjustments, backlashes 50% of the casts, and complains that it doesn't cast well. Even when he was on the third setting, and wasn't backlashing, you can hear overruns forming during the cast, and the line coils hitting the top of the frame, which will obviously slow down the spool, and you will never cast as far as the reel is capable off of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-5xLACMchA So this thread is not just about the video itself, what has been your experience with the new Tat100? There is no way that this version with the SV Boost ain't outcasting the old 2020 Tatula SV, right?

Berkley X 9 braid
I have never tried any line from YKG, and it's currently what i'd like to give a shot for 2025 because i keep hearing nothing but good stuff. But currently, from the braid i've tried, the Berkley X9 is my second favorite braid only after the 832. I used the 15lb X9 on my Pixy, and it was amazing until a river musky spooled me the hell up last Fall by taking the current, and swim to the other side of the river. Currently using the #20 on my Zillion with the SLP 1010 spool, and it outcasts the 832 by a bit, but not as abrasion resistant as the 832.

Basic Reel Maintenance Checklist
Ultrasonic cleaner is useless on a fishing reel unless you need to clean a bearing. When you're disassembling, record yourself, or take pics. Then, when you're disassembling the level wind assembly, put all the parts related to the level wind together so you don't mix it up with everything else. Do it on all section of the reel, and it becomes much easier to reassemble. And best reels to learn are the OG daiwa reels from the 2000s. Stuff like the og alphas, tdz, pixy, og steez, etc. They're extremely simple, and this is also what i've used to learn reel service myself.

Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Finally received my Graphiteleader Compatto. First impression is that this thing is insanely light and well balanced. Can't think of having held a multi piece rod that felt ligher, and i am usually all about multi piece rods, and have had a ton of them over the years. Very curious on how it'll performance for jerkbaits. Its also weird to see Made In Japan written on the blank, it's so rare nowadays.

Legit Grease and Lube?
ACE-2 is also the best grease i found for the old style drag washers used on daiwa reels from the early 2000s (the ones that feel like compressed felt or something). You use cal's grease on them, and they will stutter like crazy when drag pressure is applied, but with the ACE-2, it's buttery smooth. Also great for shimano's dartanium drag washers. The pot of grease is only $10. No idea why would anyone not use it.

Does braided really spook fish?
Why use braid without a fluoro leader, though? Unless i am frogging or fishing in the salad, i always have a fluoro leader so braid or not, it doesn't make a difference.

Your all time favorite Shimano baitcaster.
Well, minus the micro module, the Bantam and the 2020 Met is pretty tried and true to me. And while the gear set won't last as long as something on the Curado E, newer reels are certainly smoother under load.

Your all time favorite Shimano baitcaster.
I loved the E and D series from Shimano, but i will never understand how one would take those over newer offerings from Shimano. Is it nostalgia? Is it the fact that they're hard to get in clean condition? Because its certainly not performance or smoothness. Sure the gears lasted way longer before buzzing like crazy, but that's the only positive i can think of.
