well, I have to choose a new reel. Zillion or Met (non DC)
lol that ain't even remotely light. Any 100 size spool can cast it without any issues, let alone newer spools, which also tend to be lighter than older ones. You'll be perfectly fine with its stock spool.

"Made In Japan" on reels. Do you care?
I do. The difference in construction of the alphas tw (Thailand) and the jdm 21 Zillion is pretty much null, but if i am about to spend a decent amount of money on a fishing reel (especially for reels in the $300+), i want to see that Made In Japan tag no matter what. How about y'all?

How light are we talking about? Not to mention that with that reel, you have acess to the highest amount of stock and aftermarket spools of any other reel platform, so if you need to cast 1/8oz, plenty of spools for that. On aliexpress alone you can grab a cheapo one for $30 that can cast light baits np.

Curado DC vs Metanium DC vs Antares DC
For jerkbaits, the lighter the better, so the met dc wins here. But from Shimano, my personal fav baitcaster for jerkbaits is the Alde MGL 30.
-
JDM vs US metanium
You're paying that $200 for warranty, warranty you never need for baitcasters. If you're buying one, only buy from Japan. USDM prices are laughable.

An exciting year for Shimano fans
Look at shimano putting DC on everything they have just so they could resell the same frames under a "new reel", and then i am being told that Daiwa has no reason to release DC reels when the patent expires in a few months. Very naive🤗 As for what's coming, the Anteres looks cool, but unless its >6.5oz and palms small, i don't think i will ever be interested in buying one.

GLX Build Quality
I believe it, i have heard multiple in real life (mostly walleye fisherman). Their reasoning is "i like their simple looks". But i'd bet you anything that if they saw a rod from Graphiteleader, Studio Composite, or the non "flashy" rods from megabass like the P5 line, they'd be all over them, and would prefer them over Loomis's rods. I get the "simple looks", i love how my Studio Composite Transword rod looks like, its very clean, and has zero flash to it, but everything is perfect, and there's nothing that you see on the rod that you'd wish to be done in a cleaner way. I also don't really understand why these rods weren't cosmetically improved ever since Shimano acquired them. To think that good looking rods don't attrack customers is very foolish. A good example is the Zodias line. Complete garbage rods in my opinion (mainly because of the blank sensitivity and balance), but a very popular line of rods from shimano since they came out a decade ago.

GLX Build Quality
I can say the same thing about you not needing a $500 rod to catch fish, but everyone is still buying them. Why is that? Because when you get a poor day on the water, its much better to be using quality than some googan squad trash. Loomis has zero excuse for making such ugly rods. Unless of course they're competing with Ugly Stick, and we are simply not aware of it.

GLX Build Quality
These things are unacceptable for any rod that is worth over $70 to me, but even if everything was flawless, what is up with the GLX, NRX and the NRX+ looking ghetto as hell? How is it that from generation to generation, its going from ghetto looks to ghetto looks? If a $35 rod from Aliexpress can look like a $350 rod, i don't want to hear anybody telling me that a $500+ can't or shouldn't look sweet. Loomis rods straight up looking like they're from 1985-1997 to me. Never understood what's their deal about.

100mm handle with power knobs, 10BB, meta star drag, engine cover and zero adjuster collar. Looks much higher end as well. Not sure how a reel can surpass this as $240.

Zillion over everything available, including the 24 Met DC. Zil HD for $240 on amazon jp is a ridiculous deal. And while the standard 21 Zillion for $210 is amazing, for an additional cost of a vision 110, the upgrade is 1000% worth it to the HD version.

Shimano core 51mg7 production update
The newer braking system from Shimano is much better for casting distance, but unless you fish from the bank, where every feet might matter, additional casting distance isn't that important. I use a Pixy from 04 a ton every season, and it doesn't feel like a 20 years old reel at all (reel isn't stock, tho).

Is the Shimano Antares dc 2021 better than the Shimano metanium dc 2024
Personally would take a metanium over anything Anteres. They're way too heavy and bulky for a bass reel.

Anyone getting gear hate?
No, and i couldn't care less if somebody did. Why would i care for someone's opinion that uses a crunchy reel for $35 with an UglyStick from CanadianTire lol.
-
Graphiteleader
I might've given a custom rod a try, but nobody around makes em, and i need a 4-5pc rod for transport, which is most likely harder to custom build.
-
Graphiteleader
Well, i bought one, the Compatto GCMC-705M, so there's that😁Spring can't come soon enough.
-
Graphiteleader
Never owned one from them, but they do look sweet, and seeing that Made In Japan sticker on most of their rods is a big plus to me. Generally speaking, how are their rods? I've heard that they're a bit brittle. Kinda want to try one for the 2025 season.

Are the Orochis As Bad As They Say??
the 6.10 medium one. Loved it before it exploded, tho. Very good rod for the price.

Are the Orochis As Bad As They Say??
Exploded mine. And that was the first rod i break in over 10 years.

New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
Nobody at Daiwa claims that SV casts the furthest, but with DC, they could. That way they'll cover control with SV, distance with DC and affordability (for the most part) with mag-z. No downsides to this.
-
New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
The SLX and the Curado are both very popular. And remember, this will allow Daiwa to essentially sell you the same frames with a different spool and braking system inside, which is much better from their end than creating a brand new frame. This is some low effort money printing, and there's no way they aren't taking full advantage of this. If the DC patent didn't last 20 years, Daiwa would already have a bunch of DC reels in their lineup. The Zillion DC is coming, i can feel it😎

New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
Are you gonna tell me that having a "we have a computer inside our fishing reel" is not gonna sell by its own? The answer is marketing, and i am expecting them to go all in on this. Considering how well all the low end DC reels from Shimano are doing, still believing that Daiwa isn't jumping on the bandwagon is being very naive.

New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
Look at the next Steez CT having a DC module. Shimano's patent running out in a few months, and its guaranteed to be used by Daiwa.
-
New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
People used to flip with a Pixy. No way a Steez CT wouldn't be able to handle it.
-
New 2025 JDM Daiwa Steez LTD CT SV
Look good, but i would at least expect a carbon handle on a so called limited edition. This is easily one of the better frames made to date, tho. Looking at the Lews Elite Ti, it would've been nice if they coated this Steez CT with titanium. That would be much more "limited edition".
