The new products from Shimano are being revealed in China market, and a lot of goodies are coming the next spring: new Antares with MGL IV, Aldebaran DC with MGL IV, new TranX with CoreSolid body, new SLX BFS...

Here are the pics and intro. Google translate may be needed.

Oh I was considering the curado bfs as my next purchase. I might hold off awhile.

From what I got from the video the aldeberan is power bfs to medium stuff? Wouldn't that cannilbalize the metanium dc a bit? Very excited for that antares though!

Look at shimano putting DC on everything they have just so they could resell the same frames under a "new reel", and then i am being told that Daiwa has no reason to release DC reels when the patent expires in a few months. Very naive🤗

As for what's coming, the Anteres looks cool, but unless its >6.5oz and palms small, i don't think i will ever be interested in buying one.

The front end of the new Antares, especially the shape of the line guide, reminds me of Daiwa's Z reel.

It does and that was a cool reel. I always wanted one.

If my math is correct, the new JDM Antares will be around $425-$450. Not bad but still expensive.

Now begs the question.....  2024 Steez SV TW or 2025 Antares?  One of these reels is in my future.

I’m getting 2016 Metanium vibes from that Antares 😍

Me too. The casting models are meh to me. 7.6 oz Antares… aldebaran still holds too little line. And we gained a half ounce in weight on the Aldebaran over the current usdm model for less line capacity and a dc that isn’t really needed. I’m cranky and I know they are different markets: I guess I just hoped for something that fit my needs.

To me this is easily decided in the weight of the reel thus the rod you were putting it on. The Antares weighes two full ounces more than the Steez. That’s like comparing the Aldebaran to the Bantam.

Loosely using an old analogy......

The Antares is heavy like a 175lb 6' Blonde fitness model.

With that said, the Yen dropped. 24 Steez SV TW on the way. 🐒

Underwhelming. Tranx is the only interesting offering. Still need a new Chronarch... They're about 5 years late on that

I dont know that we will see 1.  Im not so sure where it would fit price point and purpose wise.  I think curado mgl just about matches chronarch mgl and chron Gs weight is actually as heavy as an AL framed reel now. The curado 150 MGL is like a budget chron mgl.  Maybe shimano upgrades curado to a 1pc body and throws some other tech in and calls it a chronarch.

Tranx looks great.  The only downside I can see to that is the height of the reel with that frame.

I've had two Curado BFS, and I still have one. With a bare spool weight of 11g, I just don't consider it a true BFS reel. IMHO, it's more of a 'BFS adjacent' offering. Perfect for 6-8 lbs monofilament with 1/4 ounce or heavier baits  at the lightest. With 5/16 oz to 3/8 oz being centered in it's wheelhouse. Again, JMHO.

The refresh on the SLX BFS would explain why the 2021 models were on sale in Japan.  I managed to pick one up in Osaka for 15,470 yen which is about 98 bucks US at todays exchange rate.

A new Tranx 300, I'm in. Eight swimbait reels will work great, since my wife ties my knots.🤣
