DRT is the most overpriced brand in the fishing industry.
I don't understand this brand. I see their handles in used condition being sold for over $250, and they look worse than what's LIVRE, Deps and SLP Works does. I've seen plenty of their swimbait rods go for over $3500 on auction. Their lures cost an insane amount, and they can't even be bothered using some quality paint on their lures because they chip like crazy. I just don't get it🤷♂️

Daiwa SV spool question
What line rating were you using with the SV spool when casting light stuff? For me, light is 1/8oz jighead with a 3" Keitech easy shiner. With 10-20lb braid, it cast very easily.

Daiwa SV spool question
Because just like the t-wing, its one of the most marketable "features" they have. In fact, SV spools and t-wing is pretty much all they can market well. Their gears are awesome, but they ain't doing a great job at marketing them to the public.

Daiwa SV spool question
lmao i am sure there's at least a few who do it. No way could a person use a daiwa, and not spool swap, or at least thought of doing so.

Daiwa SV spool question
Why did you replace a reel instead of the spool? But yes, SV is not for distance. Casting lighter lures, being much better than everything else for skipping, casting at head wind and have superior control with non aero dynamic lures is what it excels at, but you ain't casting anywhere near as far as some older Daiwa spools like the Type R+ ones, and a bunch of others. Since i usually fish from the bank, and need max distance, i get rid of all my SV spools.

Had a pike break my line yesterday & lost a $150 glide bait. What can I do to my setup to prevent this in the future?
What did you lose?

Looking to get a good all-around reel under $180. Really eyeing the Tatula series
Sell a few of your lures and get a Zillion for $200. Its too far ahead of the Tatula to ignore. And no, they aren't using aluminum to save on the cost. The aluminum used is almost guaranteed to be more expensive than brass. They use aluminum because its lighter, and lighter reels are easier to sell. Gears on these reels are so good that you don't need brass, the aluminum ones will last forever.

Finally bought a better reel
As a non Abu fan, great upgrade😁

HELP - Shimano Curado K making noise!
Hold the spool with your thumb and index, and push the spool hard to the right and then left, you should hear a click and it'll spin freely. Had this happen on an aldebaran mgl 30 just last week.

Have you tried them yourself? Never heard of MC Squared.

'22 Daiwa Alphas SV TW 800H Upgrades
I am pretty sure that the gears quality on the zillion and alphas are the same. Replace all bushing to quality bearings (not the 10 bearings for $1 on ebay, those are garbage) and the reel will feel like a $500 baitcaster. I did this to my zillion, and its smoother than my steez sv tw.

New to Baitcasting
Then why would you have that on a Steez? It doesn't make any sense to me, and even if this was the case, why not just let them adjust it if they want? No reason to completely change the whole thing. And the funny part is, this so called zero adjuster is being adjusted by the same newbies, so their strategy didn't work at all. To me, as i see it, it was changed because there's way less things going into a zero adjuster cap than what we used to have on a reel like the steez 103 for example. The detail on the cap, the clicking, all of it took more time and effort, so they stripped it all down, and gave us whatever the ugly, and pointless feature we currently have. Every single reel on the market that has a zero adjuster would look superior with older clicking caps, all of them with no exceptions.

New to Baitcasting
Zero adjuster is the most pointless and dumbest "feature" Daiwa has ever made.

New to Baitcasting
A Tat SV for $100 is a good deal, and a good option for your first baitcaster.

SV spools are very beginner friendly, so i'd suggest you buy a reel from Daiwa that has an SV spool. For your first reel, something like the Alphas SV TW would be amazing, but they're $150 from Japan. I would suggest you look at the used market, there are plenty of very good deals.

Buying reels from Japan
It does indeed look better with the blue spool. Since the last time i posted it with the blue spool, i swapped the back star drag and black zero adjuster cap to an SLP silver cap and SLP silver star drag to go full silver on the reel. Was thinking replacing the handle and knobs with one in silver from LIVRE, but those are expensive, and heavier than what's currently on the reel. I did saw a Japanese guy using it on a custom Zillion, and it was so fitting, tho.

If you were buying a dedicated frogging reel…
Would grab a Bantam from Japan.

Buying reels from Japan
Warranty should never be a reason to not purchase from Japan (not to mention that some Japanese shops will warranty the reel for you, but you gotta send it back to them in Japan). Unless we're talking about the Curado and its thumb bar that falls apart, reels don't break, so there's nothing to warranty them for. And if a bearings goes bad, its an easy replacement if you're reasonably knowledgeable when it comes to fishing reels, or just send it in for someone to do it, its not expensive. With the micro module from shimano, its much better to get brass gears because their aluminum ones are really bad, and become noisy extremely quickly. As for Daiwa, their newer style of gears that they've been using since 2016 (steez sv tw) is amazing, and there's no reason to even have brass, its only gonna be heavier.

Buying reels from Japan
Haven't bought a single reel locally since 2011🤣

I like my baitcaster, but…
If you're used to spinning reels, you might be casting with a jerk motion, which was never a great thing with any magnetic braking systems. Secondly, if you're using braid, 8th setting is usually way too much, so if you're still getting overruns, you might have too much line on the spool or your inductor/rotor of the spool is sticky.

Shimano vs daiwa $150 casting reel
It does, but that's only if you're using stock SV spools that come on most current Daiwa reels. Thing is, if you're using something like the zillion, the 34mm platform, there are literally over 50 compatible spools released in the last over 20 years. There is a ton of ultra fast spools that you could use to beat centrifugal brakes when it comes to distance, if that's your goal. Spools like the Type R and Type R+ tunes inductor spools, the Ringa SSS spool, the SLP1010 spool, RCS1016 spool, etc, etc. Most people don't bother swapping spool, and are stock with an SV spool forever, and its not with that that you'll be bombing across the lake, they're made for control, not distance.

Shimano vs daiwa $150 casting reel
$196 for the left handed 7.1 ratio even. You can find them for even cheaper on japanese auctions, but its just easier to order from the japanese amazon https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/DAIWA-Zillion-1000HL-Handle-Model/dp/B08NNZ2VT1/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3G99119P418WW&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.wVouUp7hLTzHBqYTC1XnaCX519XcnhhL-5D6AEdRa_xJbBW975E82jllYZnjOPjOSL3_M_pR158wFU-A5JJOU8M2u4mg75vJIpCtOaCD4Af_fq1DFJaCFKuWrBcLu-KQnM-4FnylykFxnvMOnr68PQaxx1SsI5TkVQOnrXLVySBO2qsZNjE_VKapgHsAKbbuzQkHCWvPjyXI3d1bfYKU-fp0zwBbYfdXt4CHFfJIVBXU3camyoG9VQbA5BLDXTxbG4WMEncRHR7zsFwaNZurMu_qRx81OXdtZUijeIRXiCY.qeefJh6i-qFshMgcO438Qlth4ovh0i84FWbg1cWqOC8&dib_tag=se&keywords=daiwa%2Bzillion&qid=1721484729&sprefix=%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-1&th=1 The zillion, for the price is so good that every single reel that is currently produces should be put on the side, and grab a zillion instead. If your budget is $150, wait a bit, get the additional $50, and buy the zillion, its much more worth it than the ghetto curados.

Where do diminishing returns begin?
For reels its $210 where the Zillion sits, and the drop of improvements from the zillion is massive when going for higher $$$ reels. For rods, the Expride is the sweet spot when purchased from Japan.
