  1. Looks like a straight up honest review. Nice job!
  2. Other than being a weighted hook, no not the same really.
  3. Start here http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/browse/fishing-vests-packs/_/N-1104263/Ns-CATEGORY_SEQ_103928580 The fly fishermen have perfected this sort of thing for years. Wear a vest, consider a chest pack or whatever suits you. I wear a fly vest and it hold about everything I use for short wading trips. If you get the right one it will have pockets big enough for small waterproof boxes. Some of them are spendy though.
  4. Love the Charlie Brewer Sliders and use them a LOT. My favorite among the lot of them is the Pro Series Snagless in 1/16 or 1/8 oz. I use them around the edges of isolated shallow weed beds or inside weedlines on hard bottom flats. 4" worm of different brands with different tail actions. Rig one up and watch it fall, absolutely beautiful drop action and then I just shake and drag it a bit.
  5. Most times I don't feel the need to change a spool. However, I have found that I do much prefer the 1016 spool in my TD-Z's that I don't use for lighter lures. I believe what I'm preferring is not the spool itself but the change it offers to the braking system. I keep my 105H spools for lighter stuff and prefer the 1016 for everything else but the truth is the 1016 does pretty darn well with the lighter stuff too. TD-Z with 90mm handle and 1016 spool has become my most favorite reel of all time (Fuego too, same platform, heavier but better looking) Another huge plus to me is they are sooooo easy to work on.
  6. Spinnerbaits can be very involved if you choose to really get into them. They are a favorite of mine, particularly in spring and fall. I have lots of different options to pick from depending on variables involved. I would definitely have a very difficult time breaking my choice down to 2 or 3.
  7. I agree about the T3. I have only added handle, spool bearings and drag star (particularly hate the stocker) to mine and they are right where I want them. I am fine with the stock spool on my T3 1016SH's. Even with the stock spool, these reels have a pretty wide capability of lure weights.
  8. Heck, that was in Florida right? I thought that whole deal was crazy. What a grind, day after day after day....just grinding out dinks.
  9. If you are looking for good alternatives to GYCB Senko, the Mr. Twister Comida is worth considering. I have done well with them but they are not tougher than GYCB Senko. Great bait in my opinion but you'll go through them just as fast but they ARE cheaper. http://www.mistertwister.com/information/comida/678#description~MT5C10 14PBK
  10. I like the TD-Z best of all time. I add carbontex drag kit, Abec 5 or 7 spool bearings if I need them, 90mm handle (favorite is the TD-Z 100M stock handle to keep factory stock appearance) and a T3 1016 spool in the 103P and 103H models. This build suits me better than anything else. Quite expensive though when all is paid for and done but they will last me forever. I still think the Daiwa Tatula's are the best bang for the buck going right now. Great performance for what you pay for them! I do like mine very much and I don't change a darn thing on them. Just a huge fan of the Team Daiwa reels from years ago like the TD-A HSTA to the Fuego's and Sol/Alphas and of course the TD-Z's.
  11. Really? Never had that happen and can't imagine that once it's in the water. I'll keep an eye on it...
  12. In my case, things have been added, nothings been sold....yet.
  13. So very sorry and condolences to you and family.
  14. I think the Daiwa Magforce Z and 3D systems are the most forgiving I've ever used. 3D is almost magic!
  15. I just stick to XT, because I've been using it for 30 yrs or so now and I have complete confidence in it . I even have 4lb XT on my little Daiwa Presso finesse caster. Amazing how strong that stuff is!
  16. Clinch knot but twice through the eye. There is a how to vid on Berkleys website I think. I do not use this knot on any of the superlines.
  17. Palomar. And where I can't use that the good ol' Trilene knot handles the rest for me.
  18. I can recommend this one.... http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/spinning-reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104837580/cabela-s-verano-spinning-reel/1749496.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-reels%2Fcabelas%2F_%2FN-1102842%2B1000002949%2FNe-1000002949%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104837580%3FWTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU Well, that turned out to be a heckuva big link, but it is really a pretty good buy at that sale price. Basically it's a Daiwa Ballistic. I have a 2500 sized version and if I needed another spinning reel right now this one would be in my cart! Great buy at $100!
  19. I scored my Tatula CT for well under $120, if you can do that yourself it will be very hard to beat!
  20. There are custom tackle shops that will build to your specs. Mike at Siebert Outdoors or Brad at Real Deal Custom Tackle can likely build what you want. Both of these guys are great to deal with. http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/ http://realdealcustomtackle.com/
  21. It does. And not just with Senko type baits. I have actually done well with Original Slider and 4-6 inch worms below slip float on windy days on deeper structures, particularly humps.
  22. Well, I don't have any of the newer Crucials but I have a bunch of the old original cork handled models. I also have a bunch of St. Croix Avids (SCIII) and I think the Crucials are pretty close in sensitivity to the Avid. Maybe not quite equal, but pretty close. Always thought the Crucial fished well above it's price point. It's good to know the new gen Mojo is in this league and for their price that comes to pretty incredible value. Great subject Hootie!
  23. Do you think the Mojo is more sensitive than the Crucial?
  24. Well, did it follow you home? I haven't even touched one yet, just because I don't need any more rods. I figured I'd end up with one if I got to lookin'.
  25. I think any of the Daiwa Tatula models (Cabela's Arachnid included) represent some hard to beat value and performance.
